San Antonio Express November 7, 1950
Two La Vernia men were in critical condition at Robert B Green Hospital Monday 
night after a head on collision Monday four miles east of W.W. White Road on 
Hwy 87 which killed Gus Doege, 18, also of La Vernia.
Critically injured were Harvey Bell, 24, and Robert C Friemel, 21, both of 
whom suffered serious head injuries.
Doege and Bell were riding in an automobile driven by Friemel.  Another 
passenger, Brandon Vorphal, 33, LaVernia, was treated at the hospital and 
released.  Driver of the other car, according to sheriff's deputies was Simon 
Ramirez, Atkins.
