Beard - 1914-2000 Service for S.L. Beard, 85, of Chico, was to be Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport. Joe Richardson was to preside. Burial was to follow at the Chico Cemetery. Beard died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Chico. Born on April 15, 1914, in Coleman, Beard lived in the Chico community since 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in World War II. He worked for Lone Star Industries in Chico for 21 years and retired in 1976. He was a member of the Carpenter Street Church of Christ in Bridgeport. He married Rosielee Cullins Beard on July 19, 1932, in Coleman. He was preceded in death by his son, George Beard, a grandchild, Asa D. Grisham and a great-grandchild, Shannon Hofackett. Beard is survived by his wife, Rosielee of Chico; three sons, Jerry L. Beard and his wife Joyce and Levert Beard and his wife Suzie, all of Bridgeport and Ronny Beard and his wife Pie of Sanger; a daughter, Treva Grisham and her husband Bill of Chico; two brothers, Cecil and Harvey Beard of Crescent Valley; a sister, Ona Mae Cullins of Bangs; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. ---------------------
