The Rev. Jim Spencer was to officiate. Burial was to follow at the Aurora Cemetery. Gonzales died May 1, 2000, in Decatur. She was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Rhome. Gonzales was the daughter of Jim Troxell and his wife Rena Morris Troxell. She was a graduate of Texas Tech University and of North Texas State College, now the University of North Texas. She retired after 35 years as a public school teacher. She was an author of 17 historical fiction and historical books. Her favorite was "History of Rhome." She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the Confederacy, the Wise County Historical Commission and the First United Methodist Church of Rhome. She was preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Cynthia Ann Hastings. Gonzales is survived by a son, David Hastings and his wife, Elizabeth Ann.
