The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** Maria Vivian Cox Hicks 1937-2000 Maria Vivian Cox Hicks, 62, of Justin, retired director of nursing at Decatur Community Hospital, died Feb. 17, 2000, at her home. Funeral is Sunday, February 20, at the Justin Church of Christ with burial in Justin Cemetery. Ministers Lonnio Davis and Roy Deaver will conduct the service. Hicks was born May 28, 1937, in Decatur. She was a 1954 graduate of Northwest High School and a 1972 graduate of John Peter Smith School of Nursing. She began her nursing career in 1972 at the old Darwin Hospital in Decatur and was instrumental in the move to the new Decatur Community Hospital in 1974. She served as director of nursing, director of surgery and assistant administrator for nursing services during a 17-year career at the Decatur hospital. She retired in 1989. She is survived by her husband, Robert Hicks of Decatur and four children, Jonna Whiteside, Penni Green, Lynda Tidwell and Dwayne L. Hicks. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, LaFlora Knox of Haslet. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Eric Green, Caleb Tidwell, Adam Tidwell, Sean Whiteside, Kevin Whiteside, Michael Hicks and nephews Price, Travis and Brad Knox. ---------
