Burks - 9 Sept 1912- 31 Jan 2000 Service for Mildred L. Burks, 87, of Gainesville, was to be Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Greenwood Baptist Church. Dr. Lawrence D. Burks was to officiate, assisted by David Ruark. Burial was to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. Burks died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Gainesville. Born Sept. 9, 1912, in Greenwood, to Robert E. and Lorenza Dow Vandiver Florida, Sr., she had lived her entire life in Greenwood and only recently moved to Gainesville. She was an artist, like her father, and devoted to reading the Bible. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dee Burks, in 1965 and by ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Louise and Lindsey Grigsby of Mesquite; daughter, Gloreeta Burks of Tyler; sons, Dale Burks of Greenwood, Oscar and wife Barbara Burks of Valley View, Dr. Lawrence Dee and wife Judy Burks of Gainesville; a brother, John Florida of Greenwood; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were to be Frank Maxwell, Ed Catlin, Wayman Pannell, Neal Fortenberry, Rex Maxwell and Ronnie Weber. Family visitation was to be Wednesday, Feb. 2, 6 to 7 p.m. at Geo. J. Carroll and Son Funeral Home in Gainesville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Grand Avenue Baptist Church. -----------
