The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. *********************************************************************** Everett McKnight Sloan 1911-2000 Memorial service for Everett McKnight Sloan, 88, of Decatur will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at Victory Family Church in Decatur. Sloan died April 3, 2000, in Decatur. Born June 10, 1911, in Dallas, Sloan was a retired teacher and member of Victory Family Church. Sloan called Wise County home for 80 years, although his teaching career was in Florida where he retired in 1968. He returned to the Sloan home in Greenwood and became active in the Wise County Historical Society. He served as president and then as treasurer. Later, he accepted an appointment into the Wise County Historical Commission in 1973. Sloan was also very active in the Decatur AARP Chapter. Survivors include a brother, Young T. Sloan of Lake Kiowa; and a sister, Dr. Katherine Speegle of Denton. ----------------
