The Rev. Jamie Reed officiated and burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery. Starnes died Jan. 29, 2000, in Bowie. Born May 4, 1947, in Bowie, Starnes was a race horse trainer for many years and was the produce merchandiser for IGA Foodliner in Decatur. He married his wife, Judy, in Bowie in 1974. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard "Ricky" Lawrence Starnes on April 22, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Judy of Bowie; a daughter, Melissa Harper of Calera, Okla.; a son, Rusty Lawrence Starnes of Bowie; three grandchildren, Ronnie Starnes, Ricki Ann Harper and Shawn Harper; two brothers, Steve Starnes of Callisburg and Michael Starnes of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Carol Gilmore of Millstone, W.V. and Carolyn Darling of Bowie; his father, Edgar Starnes of Bowie; and his grandmother, Mae Fletcher of Bowie.
