'Whitey' Vess 1925-2000 Graveside service for J.A. "Whitey" Vess, 74, of Boyd was Tuesday, May 23, at Boyd Cemetery. Doyle Slimp presided. Vess died May 21, 2000, in Fort Worth. Born May 29, 1925, in Boyd, Vess was a lifetime resident of Boyd and a farmer. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove #2 Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, in 1992 and a child, Betty Winder. Survivors include nine sons, James, Darryl, Dean, Jerry, Royce, Ronald and Gordon Vess, and Don and Robert Walker; a daughter, Laverne Minton; three sisters, Ethel Duke, Helen Baker and Dorothy McDaniel; 33 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were James, Jerry, Darryl, Royce, Dean, Ronald and Gordon Vess.
