Woolaver 1927-2000 Service for J.V. Woolaver, 73, of Abilene was Saturday, at Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene with the Rev. Wayne Oglesby and Jerry Poteet officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene. Woolaver died Thursday, April 20, 2000, in Abilene. Born March 9, 1927, in Decatur, Woolaver was raised and attended schools in Wise County. He lived in Cisco, Albany, Breckenridge, Abilene and San Antonio, returning to Abilene in 1977. He was self-employed in the well servicing business and later worked for the Texas Railroad Commission in the Oil and Gas Division until he retired in 1981. Woolaver and his wife, Marie Weir Woolaver, whom he married in Fort Worth on Dec. 7, 1946, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. Woolaver was an active member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Woolaver in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Marie, of Abilene; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Bill Adling of Lubbock and Donna and Jim Leech of Albany; three brothers, Calvin and Bill Woolaver, both of Decatur and Ray Woolaver of Bridgeport; a sister, Maye Lefler of Fort Worth; and five grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Adling, Dustin Whittaker Adling, James Cody Leech, Kimberly Dee Leech and Brittany Hull. Pallbearers were Dennis Cotten, L.J. Nelms, Bob Johnson, Gil Leonard, Lowell Fine, J. Lee Pruett, Claude Burton and Ewing Nelson.
