Bramlett Jr. 1924-2001 Service for Harley H. Bramlett Jr., 77, of Haltom City was Friday, Nov. 30 at Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Bramlett died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in North Richland Hills. Born Aug. 14, 1924, in Decatur, he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He retired after 37 years in the lumber business. He was a member of the North Richland Hills Masonic Lodge and Lumber Association of Texas. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ina Bramlett of Haltom City; a son, Kevin and wife Gail Bramlett of Fort Worth and many cousins. The family suggests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or a charity of choice. Born May 10, 1934, in Paris, Ill., Peters retired from Bell Helicopter. Born Aug. 23, 1935, in Gove County, Kansas, she was executive director of Independent Distributors Association in Dallas. She was active in the Dallas Fort Worth Association of Executives, Texas Society of Association Executives and accredited as a certified meeting professional. She was an active participant in Toastmasters International. She wrote a column entitled "Wise Bird Notes" for the Wise County Messenger. She was active in the Tallgrass Prairie Audubon Chapter as secretary and as editor of the club newsletter "Tall Grass Tales." Larry Givens was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Taylor City Cemetery. Duckworth died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Taylor. Born Nov. 5, 1910, in Manatou, Okla., Duckworth married Della Maye Gill Feb. 24, 1934, in Amarillo. He was a firefighter on the airbase in Dalhart during WWII. He moved to Decatur after his retirement from the City of Lubbock in the 1970s. Duckworth and his wife Della volunteered at Bridgeport Senior Citizens Center during the 15 years they lived in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ronald Hugh Duckworth; a daughter, Janis Elaine Duckworth Houston; two brothers, Lee and Alvin and a sister, Ruby. He was a graduate of Ranger High School, a U.S. Army veteran serving in Okinawa and Korea, a member and deacon of First Baptist Church in Decatur and a member of A.S. Johnston camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Delbert Boney. Born July 12, 1982, in Fairbanks, Alaska he was a 2001 graduate of Decatur High School where he was a member of the football team for three years. He was a member of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America in high school and won medals in state competitions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was employed at USA Quickphone in Alvord. He was a lifelong member of the Orthodox Church in America and attended St. Barbara’s Orthodox Church in Fort Worth. The Rev. Jeff Ripple officiated. Burial was in the Taylor City Cemetery. Duckworth died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001. She was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Krum, to William Alpheas and Mittie Pauline Gallett Gill. She married Hugh William Duckworth in Amarillo on Feb. 24, 1934. They were married for 68 years. She was a housewife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband had lived in Decatur for 15 years. They were both volunteers at the Bridgeport Senior Citizens Center. They later moved to the Taylor area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh W. Duckworth; son, Ronald Hugh Duckworth and a daughter, Janis Elaine Duckworth Houston. Born Nov. 7, 1936, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, he married Faye Baxter on May 13, 1957, in Cleburne. He was an active member of the Bridgeport, Chico, and Wise County historical societies, serving as chairman for several years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sons of the Confederacy, 82nd Airborne Association, the Chico Library Board and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army, retiring after 27 years of service during which time he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his service he earned numerous military awards, including the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and the Vietnam Service Medal with two service stars. He was also retired as the water plant supervisor for the city of Bridgeport. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Slonaker. Born July 13, 1919, in Slidell, he was raised in Slidell by his mother Betty Shaw Thomas. He was one of six children and all preceded him in death. He is survived by his adopted granddaughter, Yvette Laird; adopted great grandchildren, Ty and Bryson Laird of Sanger; three nieces and two nephews. Potts Jr., 79, of Fort Worth was Monday, Dec. 10, at Asbury United Methodist Church. A graveside service followed at Paradise Cemetery. Potts died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, in Fort Worth. Born July 30, 1922, in Paradise to Joe T. and Anna Lola Potts. He graduated from Paradise High School in 1942. Potts joined the Navy in 1942 and served on the USS Idaho throughout World War II in the Pacific. He was awarded two Silver Stars and the Bronze Star while fighting in 11 major battles. He married Dorthey May Tye in 1946. They lived in Fort Worth. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He worked at General Dynamics as an aircraft mechanic. He retired in 1985, after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Reeves and a brother, Jim Tom Potts. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorthey May Potts; a daughter, Marilyn Alene Martin of Houston and husband, Dr. Jack Martin and their children, Megan and Erin; a daughter, Marsha Delaine Ames of Bedford and her sons, Matthew Snelus and Trey Ames; a son, Joseph Tatman Potts III of Kennedale and wife Linda Potts and their son, Ryan Potts; four brothers, Sam Potts of Bridgeport and Paul, Bob and Bill Potts, all of Paradise and two sisters, Naomi Caruthers of Paradise and Mary Leone of Fort Worth. He studied at Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla., and at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Golden Gate Seminary in Mill Valley, Calif. Tierce served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a chief radar operator, serving two years active duty and six years in the reserves. He pastored Southern Baptist churches from June 1960 to Dec. 1982, serving in Texas and California. He was currently serving as interim pastor for Calvary Baptist Church in Abilene. He also ran the family business, Chem Dry of Abilene for 18 years from 1983 until 2000. He married the former Joyce Sipes of Weatherford on August 24, 1951. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marthalyn Webb. Burial followed in Greenwood Memorial Park. Her late husband served as president of Decatur Baptist College. Strickland died on Dec. 23, 2001, in Fort Worth. Born on Feb. 21, 1918, in Bastrop, she graduated from Bastrop High School and received her BA degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood. She did graduate work at the University of North Texas. In 1995 she received an honorary Doctorate from Dallas Baptist University. She was raised by missionary parents in the Panama Canal and Texas. She met her late husband, Otis Strickland while working on her bachelor’s degree. In 1950 he became president of Decatur Baptist College. She was a retired teacher from the Fort Worth ISD and had taught the Polly Strickland Sunday School Class at Travis Ave. Baptist Church since 1966. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis and her oldest son Otis Carlyle Strickland.
