Elder Steve Armitage was to officiate. Madrid died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home. Born March 19, 1929, in Colorado City, he had lived in the Bridgeport area for 37 years. He retired in 1997 after 13 years as a heavy equipment operator for Wise County Precinct 4. He was a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness. He married Nancy Orona on Feb. 13, 1954, in Colorado City. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Madrid; five daughters, Cynthia Ryberg, Mary Ann Walters and husband Kimble, Elia Witton, Toni Gaines and Lori Menzel; a brother, Jessie Madrid; two sisters, Florencia Heredia and Maria Lujan; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Darin, Justin, Jonathan, Joe, Starla and Nick and several nieces and nephews. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carl Houston Bowman 1930-2001 Service for Carl Houston Bowman, 70, of Fallbrook, Calif., will be Monday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery I north of Boyd. Bowman died Feb. 2, 2001. Born Aug. 29, 1930, in Wise County, he attended Paradise schools. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He was a chief petty officer when he retired. He then worked 17 years for the Naval Weapons Station in Fallbrook. He was a member of VFW Post No. 1924 in Fallbrook. Born Aug. 1, 1915, in Sanger, he was the owner and operator of the Decatur Ice Company for many years. He married Kitty Beth Christian in Decatur on June 7, 1938. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he held various positions. He was a member and past officer of the Decatur Lions Club and past president of the Decatur School Board. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America, little league baseball and the Wise County Youth Fair. He is survived by his wife, Kitty Beth; two sons, David Dodson of Decatur and Derrell Dodson of Dallas; a daughter, Nellanne McBroom of Nocona; a sister, Doris Mote of Decatur; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral was Saturday at 11 a.m. at University Christian Church in Fort Worth. She was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Wise County, to Zollie and Walter North. She was a 1947 graduate of Decatur High School. She moved to Fort Worth in 1947. She worked at General Dynamics in the Materials Department from 1950 to 1991 when she retired as senior project administrator. She was a member of University Christian Church, Dr. James Moudy’s Class, the Woman’s Club and Ladies Without Shriners. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Dale Latham and by two brothers, Gene and Joe North. Burial was at Restland in Dallas. Jackson died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Dallas. Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Temple to Otto and Augusta Graeter, she graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos. She taught school in Marble Falls, Temple and Alice. She married John A. "Jack" Jackson in 1941 and moved to Dallas in 1948 where she was actively involved with the Dallas Civic Opera, the Marianne Scruggs Garden Club ande the Dallas Women’s Club. The Jackson’s primary business was the Katie Petroleum Company and she was also the namesake of the Dallas Press Club’s Katie Awards. A dedicated philanthropist, she and her husband established The Katie Fund at Communities Foundation of Texas and recently pledged $15 million to the University of Texas at Austin for a new geology building. They also were early pioneers in the oil and gas industry in Wise County where Jackson was a benefactor to public libraries. The John A. and Katherine G. Jackson Library in Decatur was dedicated in April 1989. The John A. and Katherine G. Jackson Municipal Library in Bridgeport was dedicated in September 1990. The Jacksons have also donatedly generously to Presbyterian Healthcare System of Dallas, the Dallas Blues Foundation and Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. She was also honored as the only female member of the Wise County Roughnecks’ Club, a sign of her involvement in her husband’s oil and gas business in Wise County and his quest to capture the natural gas he believed, correctly, would be found in Wise County. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Oma Sebestek of Temple and Ann Hax of Victoria and a brother, Otto Graeter. She is survived by her husband, Jack Jackson of Dallas; and a sister-in-law, Anna Louise Graeter of Temple. She had lived in the Springtown-Paradise area for 31 years where she was a member of Springtown Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, J.C. Mitchell; a son, William E. Mitchell and a granddaughter, Sandra Inglis. She is survived by a daughter, Ava E.
