Burial was at Chico Cemetery. Born May 10, 1953, in Decatur to Marvin Junior Jones and Vetta Marie Jones, he died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, at his home. He married Jackie Lynn Barnett June 12, 1971, and was a plant foreman for Fort Worth Crushed Stone. Thursday, March 6, 2003 Cecil Edward Stephens 1918-2003 Service for Cecil Edward Stephens, 84, of Chico was March 3, at Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico, with the Rev. Charles Cox officiating. Born May 31, 1918, in Decatur to Sydney and Lola Young Stephens, he died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Chico. He married Maxine Davis on Oct. 5, 1940, in Bridgeport. He was a member of Morris Memorial United Methodist Church and retired from General Dynamics after 35 years of service. Preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Sydney Stephens, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Davis Stephens; daughters, Norma Jean Miller and husband, Wayne, Gloria Evans Holmes and husband Jim and Shelia Breebon and husband, Bobby; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother Tom Young Stephens and wife Melba. Thursday, March 6, 2003 Valeta 'Molly' McWilliams 1923-2003 Service for Valeta "Molly" McWilliams, 79, of Weatherford will be Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Putnam, Okla. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery near Custer City, Okla. McWilliams died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003, in Weatherford. Born June 9, 1923, near Putnam, Okla., to Lester and Ester (Faris) Hanks, she moved to Bridgeport in 1946 where she and her first husband Leathen (Shag) McGee opened the Red Star Cafe in Chico. McGee preceeded her in death in 1958. She married Haskell Lee (Mack) McWilliams in 1959 and they were active charter members of the Bridgeport Riding Club for many years. She owned and operated Shag's Butane and Propane Company in Bridgeport from 1953 to 1976 and also worked as a waitress in several cafes. She is survived by her husband, Haskell McWilliams of Bridgeport; a son Jerry Don McGee and his wife Betsy of Weatherford; a sister, Frances Seiss of Choctaw, Okla.; a brother, Delbert Hanks and his wife Wanda of Putnam; a granddaughter, Teri Stout and her husband Joe of Weatherford; a grandson, Danny McGee of Azle; four great grandchildren, Brittany, Lindsey, Garrett and Taylor; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Thursday, March 6, 2003 Doris Lanelle Clowdus 1921-2003 Memorial service for Doris Lanelle Clowdus, 81, of Runaway Bay was Tuesday, March 4, at Runaway Bay Community Church. The Rev. Palmer Bowers officiated. Clowdus died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Runaway Bay. Born Sept. 30, 1921, in Wilson, Okla., she was a homemaker. She married William L. Clowdus Dec. 30, 1939, in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death May 5, 2000. She was a member of the Runaway Bay Bridge Club, the Women's Golf Association and the Runaway Bay Community Church. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a member of the Decatur Church of Christ. Weathers died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, in Decatur. Born Aug. 20, 1934, in Pilot Point, she was a retired nurse at Sunny Hills Nursing Home. She married James Edward Weathers Sr. on June 4, 1955, in Quanah. He preceded her in death. Weathers attended Quanah High School and graduated from Denton Vocational School of Nursing in 1977. Sunday, March 2, 2003 Clarence Arthur Pelton 1932-2003 Graveside service for Clarence Arthur Pelton, 71, of Bowie was to be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, at Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Cox was to officiate. Pelton was the brother of Deanna Gilbert of Boyd. He died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Bowie. Born Sept. 11, 1932, in Dallas to Clarence and Daisy Pelton, he was a retired electrician for TI and a former Marine. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Sunday, March 2, 2003 Elsie Loren (Cowley) Peterson Melton 1910-2003 Service for Elsie Loren Melton, 92, of Waurika, Okla. was to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 1, at the United Methodist Church of Waurika. Reed Montgomery was to officiate, and burial was to follow at Waurika Cemetery. Melton was the sister of George Cowley of Chico. She died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Jefferson County. Born June 29, 1910, to M. M. and Fannie Cowley in Sunset, she was the oldest of eight children, and she grew up on the family farm. She went to school at Sunset, graduated high school and married Cale Peterson in Ringgold where they farmed until 1945. He died in 1959 in Waurika. She later married A. J. Melton of Hastings, Okla. and lived there until he died. She was a member of the Ferguson Home Demonstration Club, the Eastern Star of Duncan Chapter 214 and a member of the United Methodist Church in Waurika. She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Jim Welsh; three brothers, T. G. "Doc", James and Curt Cowley and a sister, Della Mae Dye. Army during World War II. He was a retired auto parts salesman and a member of the Pleasant Grove No. 2 Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for more than 30 years. Thursday, March 13, 2003 Billie Jeanne Hartness Davis 1919-2003 Memorial service for Billie Jeanne Hartness Davis, 83, of Canyon was Friday, March 7, at First Presbyterian Church of Canyon. Burial was private. The Rev. Don McDonald officiated. She was the mother of Patti Hamilton of Justin. Davis died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, in Amarillo. Born August 28, 1919, in Perrin, she married Walter Ragland Davis in Rosemont Christian Church in Dallas on her birthday, August 28, 1940. While raising her children, she played piano and organ for her church and worked with her husband in restaurants they owned and managed. After her children left home, she worked for the Texas Employment Commission in Dallas. She moved to Canyon in 2001 where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a sister, Ruda Johnson of Canyon; son, Walt Davis and wife Isabel of Canyon; daughter, Patti Hamilton and husband Cla of Justin; four grandchildren, John Davis and wife Tracy of Dallas, Lee Davis and wife Melissa of McKinney, Kathy Hamilton Lee and husband Ron of Hurst and Benjamin Hamilton of Denton; and three great-grandchildren, James and Madeline Lee of Hurst and Quin Davis of McKinney. Thursday, March 13, 2003 Charles 'Chock' Franklin Kaker 1937-2003 Service for Charles "Chock" Franklin Kaker, 66, of Bridgeport, a retired dairy farmer and rancher was to be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, with the Rev. Johnny Irish officiating. Burial was to be at East Bridgeport Cemetery. He died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at his home, after a nine-year battle with cancer. Born in Bridgeport Feb. 9, 1937, to Weldon Frank and Carrie May Hartsell Kaker, he lived in Bridgeport all his life. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1955 and attended North Texas State University for two years. He married the former Ann Dawson, whom he had met at a country dance in Chico in 1960, on March 31, 1961, in Weatherford. In his early years he worked on the family dairy farm and ranch, did some work in the oilfields and enjoyed calf roping at the rodeos. He was a dairyman for more than 25 years and a rancher for more than 40 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the National Guard, a charter member and former director of the Bridgeport Country Club, a member of BCC Men's Golf Association and the Senior Oil Man's Golf Association. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and snow skiing. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, J.C. Dawson. Born Aug. 25, 1928, in San Diego, Calif., he died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in his North Richland Hills home. He owned and operated John Jeffrey Roofing Company in Fort Worth for more than 45 years. He had been involved with the Masonic Lodge and the Moslah Shrine. In recent years, he was adopted by the Austin/Kidd families and enjoyed gardening, yard work and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his wife, Reba and his son, James, he is survived by a sister, three sons, two daughters, 17 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lula B.
