He married Sallie Lutecia Kerr in 1866 and moved first to Atlanta, Georgia, and then to Texas in 1878. They had 7 children. He was a farmer for several years until his oldest son, Edgar Eugene Hambright died suddenly of spotted fever in March of 1890. He and his wife, Sallie, could no longer live on the farm and so moved to Rhome where they owned The Cottage Hotel and a mercantile business. H.H.H.H. was also a notary public and the Justice of the Peace. In early 1818, H.H.H.H. was hit by one of the first automobiles of Rhome, Texas, while crossing the street and never fully recovered. Sallie died one month later.
