State of Texas, on this day personally appeared A. W. Kirkpatrick and G.W. Cowan (sp?) who are personally known to me to be credible citizens who, being by me duly sworn on oath state that they personally know J. C. Hathcox the above named applicant for a pension and that they personally know that the said J.C. Hathcox has been a bona fide resident citizen of the State of Texas since prior to January 1, A.D. 1880 and that they have no interest in this claim Signature A. W. Kirkpatrick G.W. Cowan Sworn to and subscribed before me this 5th day of July A.D. 1909.................. And A. W. Kirkpatrick and W. P. Harrison further make oath to the following fact touching the applicant's service in the Confederate Army: That he enlisted and served as stated in his application, that he never deserted that the said J. C. Hathcox enlisted in the 18th Reg. Co. H TX Infantry that he made a gallant Confederate soldier, that he enlisted at Jefferson, Texas in 1862, and served intil (sic) the close of the war, and was mustered out of service and discharged at Hemstead (sic), Texas, the said W. P. Harrison further states on his oath that he was a member of the same co. as was the said J. C. C. Hathcox, private, Company H, 18th Texas Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted May 6 1862. On the company roll dated February 29, 1864, the last roll on file, he was reported present. No later record of him has been found.
