Kearby, just returned from Belknap Ð that the Indians supposed to be Comanches or Kickapoos, have been prowling around the frontier recently and have stolen several horsesÉalso killed a Waco (friendly Indian) on last Sunday nightÉthey (Indians) were feeding on corn at the former residence of Mr. Cambern[Cambren], who was murdered some time since by them. Captain Marlin, with forty Rangers and a number of friendly Indians started out chasing on the 16th inst. From Mr. [M.B.] King, esq., of Fort Belknap, that two coaches with horses, and etc. passed through Belknap on the 10th inst., to be deposited at Fort Chadbourne ready to use on the California mail route, on which service is to commence on the 15th next month. We also understand from Mr. [M.B.] King that the headquarters, 2nd Regiment, U.S. Cavalry is established at Belknap, under command of Major Thomas.
