Funeral services were held Thursday, June 17, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith in Abilene, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. A graveside service and burial were held Friday, June 18 at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Mrs. Allen was born Nov. 6, 1913, in Tonk Valley to the late Fannie Gertrude and Sam Houston Jones. She attended Sul Ross University and graduated from North Texas University. She married Kirk Allen in 1937, and she was a homemaker, an elementary school teacher, and worked with her husband in Tandy leather store in Amarillo. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. After moving to Abilene in 1997, she became a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirk Allen, in 1988; three bothers, Kelly Jones, Norman Jones and Gene Jones; and a sister, Mildred Shephard. Survivors include two sons, David Allen and wife Beverly, and Sam Allen, all of Abilene; a sister, Imogene Nall of Dallas; three grandchildren, Kevin Newman, Vonni Curtis and Angie Baire; and five great-grandchildren.
