"Dan" Blanton, 71, who died Friday, 15 November 1940, in services conducted at the Newcastle Methodist Church with the new pastor, Rev. Van P. Morrison, officiating. Burial was in the Proffitt cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers: Blanton Standefer, Morriss Blanton, Billie Andrew, Joe Andrew, R.L. Heard, Jr., and Elbert Curtis. Mr. Blanton died in the home of a daughter, Mrs. L.C. Andrew, following an illness of about two months. Born in Georgia on 6 February 1869, Mr. Blanton moved to Texas in 1893. He moved to Young County in 1935. He was a barber by profession. He and Miss Blanche Qualls were united in marriage in 1898 at Benjamin, Texas, where Mr. Blanton settled on moving to Texas. To this union, three children were born, all of whom survive. Mrs. Blanton preceded her husband in death a number of years ago. At an early age, Mr. Blanton joined the Methodist church. Survived by one son - Horace Blanton of Caddo; two daughters - Mrs. L.C. Andrew of Olney and Mrs. E.V. Andrew of Raymondsville. Mrs. E.V. Andrew was unable to attend the services; three brothers - Ben, Sam and George Blanton, all of Newcastle; five sisters - Mrs. A.E. Curtis of Fort Worth; Mrs. R.l. Heard of Padgett; Mrs. J.L. Loftes, Mrs. R.O. Weatherby and Mrs. John Standefer, all of Newcastle; and six grandchildren.
