Braddock, 78, of Solon died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Solon Nursing Care Center. At funeral mass was held Friday, May 6, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. David Wilkening officiating. Burial followed in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Nolan Settlement, where full military rites were conducted by the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post #460. Mr. Braddock was born Oct. 15, 1926, in South Bend to Lester and Christine Harrell Braddock. During World War II, he entered Navy ROTC and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in naval science and tactics and the rank of Ensign. He did a year of sea duty primarily in the San Diego area where he met and became engaged to Marie Donohoe. Upon discharge, he and Marie were married Nov. 26, 1947, at St. Bridget’s Church. He returned to the University of Texas and earned a degree in mechanical engineering, then returned to Iowa in 1950 and took a job at the Rock Island Arsenal where he worked for 31 years until his retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie on July 28, 2001, a sister Louise Wickham and a brother Dan. He is survived by his sons, Bill and wife Sharon of Solon, Ron and wife Robin of Tipton and Paul and fiance Anisa Bennett of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren, Chris, Kevin, Mitch, Matt, Katie, Morgan and Nolan; four great-grandchildren, Marissa, Mason, Mia and Lauren; sister, Marie Cretsinger of Olney, Mary Henderson of Graham; brothers, Charles and wife Sue of Fort Worth, L.E. and wife Peggy of Wichita Falls and Harrell and wife Mary of Graham.
