All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ****************************************** Graham Leader, Tuesday, January 18, 2005 Ray Eugene "Gene" Glass was born in Benton County, Arkansas, February 15, 1916. He was the last of six children born to Henry and Sally Glass. His family moved to El Reno, Oklahoma, where Gene attended school. After graduating from El Reno High School, Gene attended college at Oklahoma City University on a basketball scholarship. After college, Gene got a job with the Lightening Torpedo Company and later with Hughes Tool Company. While working in Wichita Falls, Texas, with Hughes Tool, Gene met Joan Rankin. In August of l941, Gene and Joan were married and remained so for the next 62 years. In l949, Gene was hired by Zero Hour Bomb Company and the family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. The company eventually became Zebco Spinning Reel Company. In l954, Gene and his family moved to Graham, Texas, to become partners with Ben Rankin, his father-in-law, and Ed Karper. Gene and Ed were to remain business partners for 30 years. In l983, Gene and Joan retired from the oil business and moved to Kerrville,Texas. Gene is survived by two daughters, Linda Mitchell and husband Robert of Bandera, Texas, and Gena Johnson and husband Randall of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren, Kimberly Reeser of Mozambique, Joanna Anderson of Nashville, Tenn., and Grant Johnson, Allison Johnson and Kelly Johnson, all of Fort Worth.; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Pioneer Cemetery in Graham, Texas, January the 23rd at 2 pm. The family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
