She was born on January 5, 1913 in Honolulu, Hawaii, a daughter of Antone and Julia Gomes Melim. Mary and Emil moved to Utah in 1975 when Emil retired. They made their home in Honeyville. Mary enjoyed going to the Senior Center where she made a lot of friends. She enjoyed doing ceramics, and all the activities at the center. She married her sweetheart Emil Freitas September 26, 1936 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He preceded her in death in August 1995. Surviving are her three children, Gerry (LeRoy) Jorgensen, Honeyville, Utah; Justin (Tony) Freitas, Reno, Nevada; Trish (Don) King, Pleasanton, California; ten grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 5, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Henry's Catholic Church, 380 South 200 East, Brigham City, Utah. Family and friends may call on Thursday, April 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gillies-Petersen Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City. Interment will be in the Honeyville City Cemetery. Joseph Rulon Olson Joseph Rulon Olson, 64, formerly of Brigham City, died on Thursday, March 28, 2002. He suffered greatly during the last three years of his life. He was born to Rulon and Hazel Olson on September 15, 1937 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Joe lived the early years of his life in Idaho with four brothers and three sisters. On June 7, 1963, Joe was sealed to Gayla Ann Hertzig in the LDS Idaho Falls temple and later divorced. Together they had 10 children. Joe is preceded in death by three children (Diane, Heth, and Scott). He is survived by his seven children, Kim, Sharon, Kelle, Trent, Brad, Seth Cyndi. Joe served his family, church, country and community. He served an LDS New England States Mission, was a member of the Peace Corps and National Guard, taught school at BEJHS and held numerous leadership positions in the LDS church, including 1st Counselor in the Bishopric. Joe enjoyed athletics, particularly basketball and gymnastics, singing in a barbershop quartet, working on his farm, raising horses and cows, reciting cowboy poetry and telling a good joke. He married Marsha Jackson approximately three years ago. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 South, Orem, Utah. All members of the family, friends and members of the community who knew and loved him are invited to attend. MILDRED D. HARPER HONEYVILLE Mildred Emily Adams Harper, 88, died Thursday, March 28, 2002. She was born November 25, 1913 in Riverdale, Idaho, a daughter of John and Leuvinia Mayne Bishop Adams. She married Jack Renoldo Harper on December 23, 1933 in Brigham City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized on March 14, 1944, in the Logan temple. She was reared and educated in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School and Seminary. She was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the presidency of the Primary, MIA, and Relief Society. She was ward librarian and taught Sunday School and MIA. She was a visiting teacher for many years and a member of the Honeysuckle Camp of the Daughters of Pioneers. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She loved her family and was happiest when she could be doing something for others. She enjoyed and took pride in her home, sewing, cooking, quilting, and handwork. She loved the beauty of nature and working in her yard and flower gardens. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life and people. She was gracious to all whom she met. She felt that her greatest accomplishment was her three children. Surviving are one daughter, Jolene (Daren) Critchfield, Oakley, Idaho; one son, Dennis (Vickie) Harper, Honeyville, UT; daughter-in-law LaRae Harper, So. Weber, UT; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Adams, Brigham City, UT and Rex Adams, Washington, UT. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband; son, Renoldo, her parents, one brother and three sisters. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com Franklin Ting Fai Loo Franklin Ting Fai Loo, affectionately known as "Papa Loo" by his grandchildren, children, friends, and family, died in his home in Torrance, California, on March 30, 2002, at the age of 68. Gentle, kind, generous, and loving, Papa Loo was a friend to all who met him. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, he loved and embraced his family and friends with an unconditional love and acceptance that truly made him a rare individual. Papa Loo made everyone feel good and important. He served others incessantly. He always wore a smile and always had a listening ear. He just loved people. And they loved him back. Papa Loo was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 5, 1934, to loving parents, Tai Sing and Florence Loo. As a seven-year-old, while his father fought fires and worked in the rescue efforts, Papa Loo survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor while walking with his brother and two sisters to Sunday School. Later, Papa Loo honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army. Papa Loo's heart made its way across the Pacific and to Utah when he married Karen Kaye Ramsdell of Bear River City in May of 1971. Karen's family, Dewey and Flossie Ramsdell, Dee and Dixie Ramsdell, Sally and Boyd Munns, Ted and Marlene Ramsdell, Dick and Dorlynn Ramsdell, and Mike and Bonnie Ramsdell, and their respective families, adopted Papa Loo as one of their own and since that time, the past thirty years have been filled with wonderful memories as Papa Loo gave the Ramsdell Family their Chinese Hawaiian son and they gave him his Utah heritage. Papa Loo is survived by his wife Karen, his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Dennis Smith, their two children, Justin and Maile; his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Vicki Taylor, and their four children, Tristen, Cruz, Alley, and Riley; his sister, Florence Baptist; his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and William Lee; and many other family members and friends. Papa Loo was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Ting Ho Loo. Warner, Brigham City, passed away March 31, 2002, at the Brigham City Nursing & Rehab facility following a massive stroke. She was born August 7, 1922 in Elk City, OK, the daughter of E.E. and Mary Esther Marriett McCullough. On January 12, 1952 she married Elmer S. Warner in Elko, NV. He preceded her in death December 31, 1999. She was reared and educated in Oklahoma. She had lived in Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Utah. She and her husband had owned and operated the Golden Spike Cafe in Corinne, from 1958 through 1968. Mildred survived by her brother A.L. McCullough of Amarillo, Texas and her sister Oleta Yagi of Brigham City. She is also survived by four nephews whom she considered her own. Graveside services were held in Elk City, OK, on April 5. Dr. Linda Pohlabel DURHAM, NC - Dr. Linda Pohlabel, daughter of Maxine Oldham and the late Frank H. Oldham of Brigham City, passed away on March 27, 2002, while visiting her son in Durham, North Carolina, due to complications from Juvenile Diabetes. Dr. Pohlabel was born in Winnemucca, Nevada, on June 1, 1950 and was educated in Elko, Nevada. Following her high school graduation, she graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She received her Masters of Education from Westminster College in Salt Lake City and her Doctor of Education from Brigham Young University. She had taught in kindergarten and first grade for 16 years in the Jordan School District here in Utah and had just recently retired from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where she was a professor in the Elementary Education Department. She is survived by her mother of Brigham City and sons, Christian Pohlabel of Durham, North Carolina, and Dean Pohlabel of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by aunts and uncles Betty Jane and Ferrin Allen of Brigham City and Jennie and LaMar Kendall of Castleford, Idaho, and many cousins. Memorial services were held in Muncie on Saturday, April 6. Joseph George Valdez Joseph George Valdez, 53, passed away April 7, 2002 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 22, 1949 in Preston, Idaho to Tomas and Alice Lobato Valdez. He loved family parties, fishing, music, Bible study, and had a good sense of humor. He is survived by his children: Linda, Debbie, Joseph, Heather, and Michael. He was born May 12, 1967 in Los Gatos, California, the son of Ronald R. Nelson and Jane F. Nelson. Brian was a graduate of Box Elder High School, and in 1992 was named the outstanding Master of Accountancy graduate at Weber State University. He worked for the Utah State Tax Commission as an Auditing Supervisor. He enjoyed skiing, migratory bird hunting, riding his wave runner and motorcycles and excelled at every sport he tried. He especially shined at basketball, winning a trip to the finals of the Elks Hoop Shoot Contest when he was eleven. Brian was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had worked in the athletic programs. He was a gentle and kind man and love people very much, and was sensitive to others needs, especially his life long friends and family. Our hearts are broken and we are all shocked and saddened by his untimely death. He is loved very much and will be missed every moment of every day of our lives and never forgotten. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roy and Nola Nelson, and Henry and Marion Fredrickson. Jack was born April 5, 1947 on the Kimber Ranch in Grouse Creek, to William Charles & Bertha McCuistion Kimber. He married Marian Valentine Pearson on June 14, 1951 in Grouse Creek, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on September 22, 1964. Jack was reared and educated in Grouse Creek and graduated from Montello High School in Montello, Nevada. He was the Director of the Grouse Creek Cattleman's Association, FHA Farmer of the Year. Jack loved to hunt, and to work with cattle and horses. Jack served his country as a gunner in WWII, in the United States Army. Jack was a Elder in the Grouse Creek Ward of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as 1st Counselor in the Elders Quorum Presidency. He is survived by his wife Marian of Grouse Creek; three sons - A. William "Bill" (Sheri) Kimber of Grouse Creek, Quentin Joseph (LeighAnna) Kimber of Garland, and Curtis Eugene Kimber of Logan; five daughters - Marilyn O'Niel Kimber of Grouse Creek, Gwendolyn"Gwen" Kay (Neil) Rose of Tremonton, Jacqulyn "Jacque" Kimber of WestValley, Karen M. Kimber of Brigham City, and Edie K. (Dale) Ward of Brigham City; three brothers - Kay Kimber and Bryce Kimber both of Montello, Nevada, and Merrill Kimber of Elko, Nevada; one sister - Barbara Clayton of Englewood, Colorado; 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. JACOBSEN BRIGHAM CITY- Duwain Nielsen Jacobsen, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at his home in Brigham City after a prolonged illness. He was born September 4, 1922 in Mantua, Utah a son of Frederick and Anna Margrethe Nielsen Jacobsen. He married Kenna LaVon Nish September 4, 1942. Duwain attended grade school in Mantua and graduated from Box Elder High School. He served in the armed forces from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of the Brigham City Jaycees and served as president of the 20/30 Club. Duwain was a member of the LDS Church. He worked for Fife rock for 33 years. He was an accomplished woodworker and spent many happy hours riding, training and racing horses. Surviving are his wife, Kenna, 2 daughters; Bonita (Bruce C. )Garfield of Westlinn, OR, Leslie (Robert G.) Davis of Brigham City, UT, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren. Krenn SAN DIEGO, CA - Irene M. Krenn, former Brigham City resident, passed away peacefully on April 10, in San Diego, CA, at the age of 98, of causes incident to age. She was born February 2, 1904 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a daughter of William and Bertha Meyer. She married Joseph Krenn in March of 1929, in Chicago, IL. He died on December 8, 1975, in San Diego. She was a housewife, and also provided long term caregiver services for her mother, husband and son. She loved to cook and crochet. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in San Diego, where she was a member of the Quilting group and volunteered in their thrift shop. She had many friends in the congregation. She is survived locally by her granddaughter Cindy (Mike) Peters of Brigham City, great grandson Matt (Amy) Stark of Tremonton, and great-granddaughter Emily Stark of Kalispell, MT. Great-great grandchildren Makayla and Chase Stark also survive her, as well as Bill Stark, a dear family friend. Her husband, daughter, stepson, parents and one sister preceded her in death. During her years of living in Brigham City, she made numerous friends. She had a special place in her heart for Shirlea and Ron Horne, whom she loved dearly. NELSON BRIGHAM CITY- Edna Richman Nelson, 84, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2002 at her home from cancer. She was born on May 3, 1917 in Paradise, Utah, a daughter of George S. and Estella Thomas Richman. Edna married Donald Nelson on November 29, 1935 in Brigham City, Utah. They where married for 66 years. She was a member of the Brigham City 12th Ward, where she served as Primary teacher and secretary, Relief Society secretary and Mutual leader. Edna was also President of the VFW Post 1695 Ladies Auxiliary in Brigham City and also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She liked to do hand work and loved to keep scrapbooks and photo albums of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Surviving is her husband, Don of Brigham City; one daughter, Ilah Rae (David) Andrew of Brigham City; 5 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren; one brother, Reese Richman of Tooele. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the Brigham City 12th Ward Chapel, 620 North 300 East. HOBSON Brigham City- Clifford James Hobson, 81 beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend returned home to his Heavenly Father April 9, 2002. He died at McKay-Dee Hospital of pneumonia surround by his loving family. He was born April 2, 1921 in Ogden, Utah, a son of Sophrona Hadley and Jesse Verr Hobson. He graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Weber State College. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army Air Corps. He served as a mailman in Brigham City, and was a longtime local businessman. He met and married his eternal companion Berniece Tanner June 8, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. He and Berniece were privileged to bring to earth 7 children. He was preceded in death by 5 of those children; Kenneth James, Kaylene, Kaylyn, Ami Kristene, Richard Dean. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nona Bywater. He was a man of great patience. He was a kind and loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather who devoted his life to his family. He was an active member of the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, serving in various callings. He served as a stake missionary. He served as the ward Sunday School President several times for many years and as the Stake Sunday School President. He served in 2 Bishoprics as the executive secretary. He was also a dedicated home teacher. He had been an Elder, Seventy, and serving as a High Priest at the time of his death. He loved serving the Lord in any capacity he was called. He was active in sports especially in baseball where he pitched for Box Elder High School and later served as a Little league coach, taking his team to the Little League World Series. He was a faithful Jazz fan. Cliff loved spending time with his family, taking trips with them and he enjoyed the wonders of this world. He especially loved sunsets, the moon and the stars. He loved to snowmobile, boat on Lake Powell with his family and go deer hunting. He was a "fix-it" man and could fix anything that was broken. Cliff served his family and other without hesitation, and was always willing to help anyone. Cliff and Berniece would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary June 8th. He is survived by his wife, 2 daughters, Debi (Don) Collett, Brigham City, Alesa Hobson, Brigham City, 6 loving grandchildren who were the love of his life; David Gilbert, Logan, Katee (Matt) James, Rexburg, Idaho, Britnee Gilbert, Fresno California, James Gilbert, Carlee Gilbert, Jaedon Collett, all of Brigham City. He is also survived by a half-brother, Vaughn Hobson, burley Idaho, and two half-sisters Mavis & Daris of Burley, Idaho. He lived a wonderful life and will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. She was born February 13, 1910 at Lago, Idaho to Charles F. Stephenson and Nellie Ruud Stephenson. She married Ira Vandenakker, November 17, 1930. He died in February of 1977. She then married Dean Francis. They were later divorced. She graduated from Grace High School in 1929. She worked for Bell Telephone Company in Grace, and also was employed by Ried s Millinery, General Mills and Utah Power. Her hobbies included crafts, crocheting, reading and genealogy. She loved the outdoors and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and received her endowments in the Ogden LDS Temple. Surviving are her children, Dean (Suzie) Vandenakker; Gay (Robert) Best; Sharon (Bill) Garr; sisters, Carmen S. Langston, Glenys Hawker; one brother, Harris Stephenson; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one son, Jerry. She was born June 25, 1918, in Downey, ID, the daughter of Charles and Winnifred Barnes Barfuss. She married Willis Ole Christensen September 29, 1937, in the Logan LDS Temple. Verna lived in Tremonton her entire life except for the past two years spent at the Nursing Home. She worked many years on the family farm near Tremonton. For over 15 years she delivered newspapers, driving over 100 miles a day, never missing a day. She loved flowers and always had a beautiful garden. She was active in school organizations. She spent her entire life raising and caring for her children and grandchildren. She loved to watch sports and was always there to cheer for them. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held position in all the organizations but loved the Primary, leading the singing and her visiting teaching. She is survived by her children, Paul (Lana), Tremonton; Gay (Lynn) Larson, Ogden; Lynn W. (Sandy), West Point; Reed B. (Linda), Tremonton; Carole (Phil) Butcher, Colorado Springs, CO; Bonnie (Curtis) Starr, Malta, MT; Garth (Pam), Snohomish, WA; Joyce (Scott) Germer, Deweyville; Neil G. She was born May 21, 1908 in Brigham City, Utah to Hannah Valberg and John Snowball Burt. She married Oliver Ferguson Baugh, they were later divorced. She married Wilburn J. Baty December 29, 1941; he died July 11, 1972. Edith lived in Harper Ward since 1941 and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in the Primary, Relief Society and Sunday school. She had worked for the Millionaire Duck Club and Brigham Sports Wear. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, J. Max (Leah) Baugh of Harper Ward, Susan (James) Duke of Powell, Wyoming, Burt (Linda) Baty of North Ogden, and Adele (Thomas) Burton of Harper Ward, 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, one sister Emma Fay Maddox of Salt Lake City also survives her. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Alphonzo Burt, one sister Ruth Baty and one grandson, Max Duke. We will always love and miss you. LUCILLE M. CRAGHEAD BRIGHAM CITY- Lucille Misrasi Craghead, 75, passed away peacefully April 16, 2002. She was born November 2, 1926 in Korce, Albania a daughter of Nick K. and Anthina Pulluqi Misrasi. She married Robert J. Craghead on November 27, 1946. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple on October 8, 1968 She was a member of the Brigham City 9th Ward. She served as a Cub Scout leader and Relief Society visiting teacher. Lucille loved gardening, sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed shopping and visiting with people. She deeply loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as the neighborhood children who called her Grandma. Lucille is survived by her caring and dedicated husband, Bob with whom she has shared 54 wonderful years residing in Brigham City, Utah. Surviving are her children and their spouses: Christine (Jerry) Secrist of Barker City, Oregon; Pasty (Steven) Culter of Brigham City, Utah; Robert (Christine) Craghead of Waterloo, Iowa; and Ted (LaVonne) Craghead of Waterloo, Iowa. Also surviving are 10 Grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; 14 Great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends she leaves behind. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com MAISIE WILKERSON DYE ROOSEVELT - Atice Macie Maisie Dye. age 89, passed away April 27, 2002 of causes incident to age in a Roosevelt Care Center. She was born November 8, 1912 in Hayden, Duchesne County, to Thomas T. and Girilda Johnson Wilkerson. She married Richard George Dye of Roosevelt on May 30, 1930 by the Mayor of Ogden in an airplane flying over the city of Ogden. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on July 15, 1931. Richard died February 3, 1998. Maisie and Richard lived in Utah, Nevada, and California where Richard was a heavy equipment operator on major construction projects. In 1941 they lived in Santa Monica, CA where she worked for Douglas Aircraft Co. during the war and continued working for various aircraft and missile companies in CA and UT, retiring from Thiokol in Brigham City in the early 70's. She lived in Brigham City until Richard died and then moved to Roosevelt. Maisie is survived by her sons, Ronald Gilbert (Karen) Dye of Woodland Hills, UT and R. Garold (Carol) Dye of Roosevelt; 10 grandchildren, six step grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Valene Galley, a grandson, Ricky Knox and a granddaughter Geraldine Dye; and all nine of her brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, at 11 a.m. at the Neola LDS Chapel. William (Bill) Konieczki ST. LOUIS, MO - William (Bill) Konieczki, 62, of Columbus, MS, formerly of Brigham City, Utah, died April 27, 2002, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born July 12, 1939, in Danville, Illinois. He was the son of Anton and Josephine (Adams) Konieczki. He was a Plant Manager in the garment industry, a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks, Rotary Club, Knights of Columbus, MS. He is survived by his wife Ginny (Summers) Konieczki of Columbus, MS; his mother, Josephine Bukowski; three sons: Jeff Konieczki of St. Louis, MO, Jason Konieczki of St. Louis, MO and Todd Konieczki of Cocoa, FL; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Anton Konieczki and his brother Charles Konieczki. He was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus, MS. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 1, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville, IL and 11 a.m. on May 4, at Annunciation Catholic Church in Columbus, MS. Donald Earl Beesley SEWICKLEY, PA - Donald Earl Beesley, 75, passed away April 27, 2002, of congestive heart failure in Sewickley, PA. He was born December 13, 1927, in Provo, UT, a son of Lawrence and LaPreal Hastings Beesley. Don went to school in Provo, Brigham City, UT and Richmond, CA. He joined the Navy at age 16, during World War II, and served at Treasure Island, CA, New Guinea and the Philippines. He married Virginia Lee Handcock of Brigham City on December 24, 1946. They had two sons, Christian Brent and Mikel Scott. The were later divorced and their sons were adopted by Virginia's second husband, Mr. Crum. He then married Virginia Elizabeth Miles on November 2, 1953. They were later divorced. He hen married Barbara Louise Zahner on April 22, 1972. Don worked as a structural iron worker at Greenland on the missile silos and other places. His occupation contributed to his emphysema. In November, 1995, Don was the fifth patient of Dr. James Magovern at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburg. Dr. Magovern removed 25 percent of each lung in an alternative of lung transplantation. Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lawrence Hastings and a sister, Mary. His is survived by two sons, Brent Thomas of Stillwater, OK, and Chad LaVelle; one brother, Ned (Rae) Beesley and one sister, Alice Hendrickson, both of Brigham City. Don was cremated yesterday and memorial services are being held today in Sewickley.
