HAUGAN BRIGHAM CITY Rita Radberg Haugan, 92, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at the Pioneer Care Center. She was born May 22, 1910 in Stockholm, Sweden. Rita came to America in 1928. She was sponsored by her uncle who lived in Portland, Oregon. She later moved to Los Angeles where she meets her husband, Maynard Baron. They had a son, Richard Baron. Both Maynard and her son, Richard preceded her in death. While in Los Angeles she was a Swedish Maid working for several movie stars. Later on, she received her Registered Nurse Degree. Following her husband death, she meets Peter Haugan and married. They resided in Texas, later moved to Brigham City, where he worked for Thiokol. Peter and Rita later divorced. Rita worked at Cooley Hospital in Brigham City then worked at St. Benedicts Hospital in Ogden, where she retired. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Corinne Chapter 11, a Past High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and a Past High Priestess of the Ladies of Oriental Shrine. Surviving are one brother and several sisters, and many nieces and nephews in Sweden. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah. Friends may call on Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Inglewood Cemetery, Inglewood, California. CAMBRY M. EDDINGTON PERRY- Cambry Marie Eddington, precious daughter of God, has returned to her Heavenly Father. She was stillborn December 3, 2002, at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. Her parents are Ryan Blaine and Jana Marie Jacobsen Eddington, of Perry, Utah. She is survived by her parents; her grandparents, Darrell and Jolene Eddington, and Dennis and Julene Jacobsen, all of Perry, and many caring aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents Blaine Eddington, Albert and LeOra Jacobsen and Ellis Smith. Private services were conducted by Myers Mortuary in Brigham City. Davis, 64, died Saturday, December 7, 2002 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born May 24, 1938 in Corinne, Utah a son of Orville and Mary Whitaker Davis. He was the seventh of ten children. During his youth, he served in the United States Air Force. On December 18, 1959 he married Sharon Petersen. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Jim was an active High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served in various callings. He worked for Brigham City for many years serving as a lineman, then as Superintendent of the Electrical Department and later the Public Works Director. He was in his second term as a City Council Member at the time of his death. He was also self-employed for many years as an Electrical Contractor. He loved his family and his community and spent his life serving them. He was an accomplished leader and teacher. He enjoyed golf and working outdoors in his yard. He also loved his two little dogs, Samantha and Heidi, who were his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife; Sharon, son; Rick, daughter; Lori (Vaughn) Gardiner, and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 25th Ward Chapel, 865 South 300 West, Brigham City. She was born June 27, 1908 to William Maughn Williamson and Mary Riggs Poppleton in Wellsville, UT. She attended school in Wellsville until 7th grade, finishing school in Smithfield and North Cache High School in Richmond, UT. She met and married Ronald Newton Coburn Feb.23, 1928. They lived in Franklin, ID for 2 years. They moved to Cedarville at the mouth of Weston Canyon, living on the Coburn Homestead where they loved to work together as well as riding horses through the hills and hunting. The raised 3 children, Mary VaLee (Don W. Guy) of Layton, UT; Ronald William Coburn (Lila) of Brigham City, UT; Donna Jane (Don Masterson) of Stockton , CA. She has 6 grandchildren 22 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. Three sister still living, Ruth Griffin, Logan, Celia Cronquist, Logan, and Ethel Greene of Smithfield. Preceding her in death a brother Floyd Williamson, Vernon Williamson, and Thomas Williamson who died in infancy. One Sister Aileen Scott. Grandson, Jon William Guy, and great grandson Anthony Lee Coburn, who died in infancy. She was a member of the LDS Church and served many years as a Visiting Teacher, as well as many jobs in Primary. She loved to sew and crochet beautiful afghans, house slippers, and made many things for the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a Jazz fan always watching their games and love to watch "I Love Lucy", and world wrestling entertainment. Doing her puzzle books and playing cards and games with grandchildren and neighborhood children, who love to come and see Grandma Coburn. She lived alone for 38 years, taking care of her home and yard up until the past two years. The family would like to express their thanks to all of her wonderful, caring neighbors and friends, especially Jason Hall and Carlos and Lucilla Rengifo. Thanks to the Franklin County Nursing Home for all the care they provided, and a special thanks to Lorin and Shelly, who were so caring. He was born March 2, 1927, in Hyde Park, Utah, the son of George Christian and Lizzy Kirby Christoffersen. He married Lois Elaine Petersen on November 10, 1950, in the Logan LDS Temple. He grew up in Hyde Park and was educated at Hyde Park Elememtary and North Cache High School. He served in the Navy during WWII. He raised game birds as a hobby. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. His family loved listening to his colorful stories of days gone by. He was an Elder in the Hampton Ford Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He assisted in many service-related projects for the church. He is survived by his wife Lois of Fielding; his children, Cathy (David) Evans, Ogden; Craig Eugene (Gwen) Christoffersen, Fielding; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Golda Follett and Kathryn Raymond. BEECHER BRIGHAM CITY Elbert Ray Beecher, 93, passed away Monday, December 9, 2002, from causes incident to age. He was born December 4, 1909 in a log cabin in Elba, Cassia Co., Idaho, to Ransom Asa and Maud Barker Beecher, the second of six children. The family moved to Brigham City, Utah in a covered wagon in 1918, to the family farm on the foothills east of Brigham City. He graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Utah State Agricultural College. He married his high school sweetheart, Nina (Figgins) Hess in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 21, 1930. He left three days later on a two-year LDS mission to California. After his return, they ran a store on Forest and 4th West, then he worked at Baron Woolen Mills, Botts Monument Mill and ran a farm. In 1945 they moved to Fresno California for 3 years. In returning to Brigham City, he started in the carpentry trade while still working a farm. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many positions, including High Councilor, Bishop and Stake Presidency. They moved to their dream farm in Harper Ward, Utah in 1961. They spent 37 contented years enjoying and improving the farm. After retirement, they served faithfully for 15 years as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. He is survived by his four children; Brent (Patsy), Denton (Francine), Neal (Jackie), Janet (Jim) Harmon , his sister; Marie (Don) Rasmussen, 18 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and four brother; Asa, Merl, Delmont and Vern. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com Dale Leroy Warburton Dale Leroy Warburton passed away on Monday morning December 16, 2002, from causes incident to Alzheimer's disease and age. Dale was born on April 3, 1922, to Delbert Dewitt and Florence Beatrice Shephard Warburton. He married Ruth Gleason on February 3, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Dale is survived by his wife, Ruth Gleason Warburton, his three sons, Dale Bradford (Debbie), Michael Gleason (Carole), Lawrence "Larry" D (Barbara), his daughter, Laura Warburton Folkman. Dale was also blessed with 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Gerald Richard Warburton (Barbara), Robert Shephard Warburton (Carol), and a sister, Dorothy Fae Sheridan (James), and loving nieces and nephews. Dale was raised and spent the majority of his working life in the Grouse Creek and Etna area family ranches. Dale later moved his family to Garland and labored as a factory worker and warehouseman in Garland (U&I Sugar) and Ogden (DDO). Dale very much enjoyed the ranching lifestyle, caring for livestock, and the out-of-doors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and passed on much of this enthusiasm to his children, grandchildren and many others. Dale served in the military in the South Pacific during WWII. The family wishes to express extreme appreciation for the fine care given to Dale by the staff of the Bear River Valley Care Center where Dale spent his final few years. George, 74, died Monday, December 16, 2002 at his home from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was born March 7, 1928 to Jabez Arthur and Laura Gardner George in Bear River City, Utah. He was the eighth child in a family of ten. Nolan joined the US Army on May 7, 1946 and was later awarded the Victory medal and the Army of Occupation medal-Japan. He was honorably discharged on October 11, 1947. He married Dawn A. Allen on June 16, 1961. He worked in Ogden, Utah, as a glazer until his retirement. Like his father, he loved his horses. He co-owned the Double Cross Stables in Brigham City, Utah. Many wonderful days were spent in Idaho with his nephews Jim and Eddie. Nolan was a quiet, gentle and patient man who's honor was impeccable. His word was his bond. He is survived by his wife, Dawn George, Brigham City; his children, Roger (Roberta) Allen, Hyrum; Deni (Lyle) Crockett-Nelson, ; Sharee (Randy) Simonsen, Brigham City; Marcie (Joe) Andrews, Wilsonville, Oregon and three children from prior marriages Tana, Shelly and Kevin, 18 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert O. Allen, three sisters, one brother. PAT LANDON BRIGHAM CITY - Our devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Darlene Pat Nelson Landon, 48, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2002 at the Brigham City Hospital due to heart failure. She was born on June 28, 1954 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Darven C. Nelson and Maydean Paul. Pat married her sweetheart, Steven Landon on June 23, 1972 in Brigham City. They were sealed for time and all eternity on January 17, 1981 in the Ogden LDS Temple. She was a member of the Brigham City 9th Ward in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held positions in the young women presidency, primary board, joint Baptism Coordinators and visiting teacher supervisor. Pat was a CNA and took care of a special lady, Rosella Reeder for many years. She was always helping someone in need. She was the peacemaker. She loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Steven, Brigham City; three sons, Steven Jr.; Shane and James (Mandy) all of Brigham City; six grandchildren; her Father and Mother in-law, Arthur and Beverly Landon, Brigham City; one brother, Carl (Gail) Nelson, West Valley City; four sisters, Ginny Taylor, Paula (Kurt) Herbert, Karen (Kelly) Tincher all of Brigham City Bonnie (David) Bissegger, Farr West. She was born December 3, 1905 in Milburn, Sanpete County, Utah to Alfred Christian Nielson and Mary Lillian Nay, the second of eight children. She attended school in Tropic and Panguitch, Utah. She married Thydais Hansen on June 11,1924 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in the communities of Centerfield, Bingham Canyon and Gunnison, Utah. Mrs. Hansen lived at the Country View Manor Nursing Home in Provo for the past five years. She delighted in succeeding generations of grandchildren and realized her dream of being a great-great grandmother. Her grandchildren loved to visit and hear tales of her life. Her hobby was sewing, creating stuffed toys for her grandchildren and then beautiful quilts for their wedding gifts. She loved people and was friendly with all she knew. She was the second of eight children born to Alfred Christian Nielsen and Mary Lillian Nay. She is survived by a son Calvin Forrest (Bonnie) Hansen, Brigham City, Utah, and a daughter Barbara Althea (Ross) Birdsall, Fullerton, California, and by her sister, Reta Turner, McGill, Nevada. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, their daughter Lila Elaine Hansen Heerensperger, and by her brothers Edwin Carlyle Nielson, Alfred Leland Nielson, Richard Floyd Nielson, and George Rell Nielson, and by her sisters Margie Nell Nielson and Veda Nielson Swain and by a grandson, Jeffrey Charles Stanton, and a great-grandson, Erik Scott Birdsall. ALLAN BLAINE CLARK BRIGHAM CITY - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, Allan "Blaine" Clark, 76, returned home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at the Brigham City Nursing and Rehab. after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born on March 18, 1926 in Fairview, Utah, to Otto Ferdinand and Jessie Marie Nielsen Clark. He was in the Army during World War II where he served in the Phillippines and was also in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Allan married Colleen McCrary on April 14, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple, they then built a home and settled in Brigham City. Allan was a member of the Brigham City 12th Ward where he was a home teacher, Elder's Quorum Secretary, Sunday School counselor and participated in genealogical extraction. He retired from Hill Air Force Base after more than 35 years of Civil Service in the motor pool. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had the ability to fix almost anything. Surviving are his wife, Colleen of Brigham City; three children, Melanie Farris of Brigham City; Darin of Draper; Richard (Jolene) of Brigham City; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one brother, Noel Clark, Fairview, UT. MICHAEL LEE ANTONIO BRIGHAM CITY - Michael Lee Antonio, 56, died peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2002 at Brigham City Nursing and Rehab. He was born on February 10, 1946 in Watsonville, California, a son of Willetto Benjamin and Lorena Reed Antonio. Michael married Linda Kraus in 1968, they were later divorced. He then married Luann Marcellin in June 1977 and they were later divorced. They had two children, Michael and Nicole. Michael had served in the Army Reserve as a Private. He had worked at UDISCO for about 20 years and then working at Weathershield for about eight years. He loved to play softball, football, and was an avid bowler and pool player. Surviving are his two children, Michael B. (Jennifer) Antonio, Brigham City; Nicole B. Antonio, Ogden; two grandsons, Chans Peterson and Jaren Antonio; six sisters and one brother, Nancy (Steve) Cramer, Tremonton; Patricia (Richard) Walker, Sandy; JoAnn (Marty) Hensley, West Valley; Christina (Jack) Clark, Roy; Ursula (Garen) Hyer, Brigham: Elaina (Joe) Kliger, Farr West; Steven Antonio, Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Tracy and Colin Antonio. Earle was born June 5, 1927 in Brigham City a son of John W. and Irene Pearl Lewis. He married Bernice Hamson on August 12, 1948 in the Logan Temple. He served three years in the U.S. Navy, during which time he made a tour of Antarctica. Earle worked for the Defense Depot in Ogden for 40 years. Surviving are his wife; Bernice, three children; Karen (Bill) Grundle, Allen Lewis and Brenda Lewis all of Brigham City, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter, two brothers: John Lewis, Brigham City, Marshall Lewis Kent, WA. Hunsaker 8/03/18-12/14/02 Darwin Austin Hunsaker, 84, passed away on Dec. 14, 2002 in Salt Lake City. He was born on Aug. 3, 1918 to Newman and Myrtle Jane Smith Hunsaker in Honeyville, Utah. He married Beth Grant on June 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death. He later married Edith M. Hunsaker on July 26, 1986 in the Jordan River Temple. Darwin was employed by KLO Radio in Ogden during WWII, and later worked for Hanford Atomic Works in Richland, Washington. He retired to live in Salt Lake City. He was an enthusiastic rockhound, and worked actively with the Boy Scouts of America for many years. Darwin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Darwin is survived by his wife Edith; daughters Linda Hunsaker, Sherylee (Paul) Hankinson; son Scott Darwin Hunsaker (Linda); stepdaughters Sharon (Geno) Ludwig, Shirley (David) McLendon; stepsons Russell (Dedie) May, Richard (Malinda) May; brother Hugh D. Hunsaker (Jane); sister Barbara (Dee) Jeppsen; 32 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepmother (Eva C. Maun Goodliffe Hirschi Maun Goodliffe Hirschi died December 16, 2002 at his home having battled with prostate cancer for twelve years. He was born January 18, 1928 in Brigham City, Utah to Louis Arnold and Elizabeth Ann Goodliffe Hirschi. He grew up in Park Valley, Western Box Elder County, Utah where he began his school years. He graduated from Box Elder High School leaving just before graduation to serve in the US Navy during WWII. After his service in the Pacific area, he attended college at Utah State College, graduating in 1953. As a Certified Public Accountant, he worked in Ogden and Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Joyce Cozetta Petereit in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, November 18, 1949. As a member of the Stake High Council, he enjoyed the growth of the South Davis area participating in forming new wards and a stake. Other church assignments were highlighted by Boy Scout activities and teaching the youth. He was a coach of Mueller Park Little League Baseball teams. He is survived by his wife; sons, David Maun and Vicki, Richard Louis, Robert Arnold and Beth, Paul Curtis and Linda; sisters, Virginia Lorscheider, Joyce and Keith Meldrum; brothers, Delbert and Marvell, Wayne and Faunell, Weston and Beverly; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. WAYNE R. BUSBY BRIGHAM CITY- Wayne Roy Busby, 44, died December 16, 2002 at his home of pneumonia. He was born March 8, 1958 in Brigham City, Utah a son of Roy D. and Dorothy Mayne Busby. Wayne married Carmenlita Jean Denetclaw on July 16, 1984 in Ojo Amarillo, N.M. He worked at Ace Fab and Welding in Ogden. Wayne loved Harley Davidson motorcycle. He has ridden his Harley since he was 17 years old. Wayne really enjoyed Target Shooting. He was very loving, kind and caring person. He loved his family and friends very much. She was born November 19, 1913 in Willard, Utah a daughter of Joseph Moroni and Sylvia Maria Wood Cordon. She married Paul Ellis Lowe August 21, 1935 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 27, 1936. Carma served as the Southern Ohio District MIA president for several years and was a positive influence in the lives of many young women. She loved genealogy research and was instrumental in acquiring the Marie Dickery Historical Collection for the Cincinnati Bosworth Place Genealogical Library. Carma, along with her husband served a two year mission in the Orem Timpview Stake. Her hobbies included creating beautiful ceramic pieces and crocheting many articles for her family and friends. As a young girl, she played on the Willard Battle Axes and had a life long love of sports. She was an avid follower of the Cincinnati Reds. Survivors include her husband Paul Ellis Lowe and their eight children: Sylvia (Robert) Farris of Orem, Deon (Dave) Ballard of Lindon, Douglas (Magdalena) Lowe of North Salt Lake City, Peggy (Adelbert) Potter of Paducah, Kentucky, Dennis (Kathleen) Lowe of Alexandria, Virginia, Steven (Patricia) Lowe of Farmington, Utah, Sidney (Tom) Ellingford of Bridgeland, Utah and Susan (Bill) Silva of Taylorsville, Utah. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Leone (Andrew) Nielson and June (Ervin-deceased) Garfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Edwin Cordon, and a sister, LaVon Badley. Gnose, 93, passed away of natural causes on December 17, 2002 at the home of her daughter in Brigham City, Utah. Ruth was born in 1909 in Wisdom, Montana to William Jesse and Hanna Swanson Tope. She grew up on her parents' sheep ranch in Montana's Big Hole Basin. She enjoyed the outdoors, riding her horse and helping with the ranch work, from which emerged a lifetime love of gardening. She graduated from Beaverhead High School and learned accounting at Butte Business College. She married Walter Bonner Gnose on December 6, 1930 in Anaconda, Montana. In 1934, she and Walter moved to Wise River, Montana to start Gnose Mercantile, which was owned and operated by the family for 64 years. It was not until 1948 that electricity came to Wise River, so hard work was a way of life. Walter and Ruth had three children: Neva Ann, Edna Louise and James Ralph. Ruth is survived by sister Jessie Potts of Butte, Montana, daughter Edna (Bill) Munson, of Brigham City, Utah, son in-law Jack Holland of Great Falls, Montana and Grandchildren Daniel (Christine) Holland, Dr. Randall (Dr. Rebecca Benko) Holland, Edward (Christine) Munson, Michael (Angie) Holland, Patrick Munson, Sonja Munson-Guess (Brad Guess), and Susan (Christopher) Ames. She also had 13 great-grandchildren whom she adored. She was preceded in death by husband Walter, brother Ralph Tope, brother in-law Ralph Potts, daughter Neva and son James. Ruth's life was imbued with an abiding faith in God and an unconditional love for her family. She helped found the Church of the Big Hole and served as its financial secretary (and fill-in pianist) for over 30 years. She received an outstanding church service award at her 90th birthday celebration. She steadfastly believed in the power of prayer. She was the rock foundation of her family, providing an example of a life well lived. Her example served all of her grandchildren who spent summers working at the Gnose Mercantile. She had a special sense of humor and a uniquely endearing manner that will be greatly missed by all those who were close to her. A memorial service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday December 23 at the Community Presbyterian Church of Brigham City. A memorial will also be held in Wise River, Montana next spring. KUNZELGIN, OREGON - Ethel M. Kunz, 91 passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2002 at her son's home in Elgin, Oregon. She was born on April 15, 1911 in Corinne, Utah, a daughter of Benjamin Harris and Engaborg Sophia Hansen Woodward. Ethel married Leonard Kunz on September 22, 1928 in Shoshone, Idaho . He preceded her in death on September 13, 1993. Surviving are two sons, Marvin Kunz and his wife, Frances of Elgin, Oregon; Robert Kunz and wife, Linda, of Moline, Illinois; three grandchildren, Sharyna Miley; Robbie Robinett; Danny Robinett, also surviving are serveral great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Brooks of Ogden; Marie Hulet of Layton; four brothers, Albert Woodward of Salt Lake City; Calvin Woodward of Elko, Nevada; Leonard Woodward of Hemet, California; Raymond Woodward of Boise, Idaho. She was preceded in death by one sister, Cleo Matilda Woodward and one brother, George Woodward. DWIGHT SCOTT REEVES BRIGHAM CITY - Dwight Scott Reeves, 61 passed away on Friday, December 27, 2002 at his home of cancer. He was born on May 12, 1941 in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Gordon Hurst and Donna Marsh Reeves. He attended Box Elder High School where he played football and sang in the choir. Dwight married Dixie Knudson on June 1, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. He was the youngest president of the Brigham City JC's and loved coaching his son in baseball and football. He was a member of the Brigham City 6th Ward where he was a high priest and had served in various callings. He had worked at Thiokol for 34 years and then was employed by Maddox Ranch House until his death. Dwight was a good friend to everyone he met, he will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife, Dixie of Brigham City; one daughter, Sheila (Michael) McDonald of Sandy; one son, Bryan (Julie) Reeves of Brigham City; four grandchildren, McKell, Sean, Rylee and Baylee., his mother, Donna of Brigham City; two brothers, Dennis (Sharon) Reeves of Roy and Jeff (Rosanne) Reeves of Bountiful. (Ferd) Valentine "Papa" Our cherished father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend passed away on December 24, 2002. He was born on September 24, 1932 to Esther Petersen and G. H. (Tiny) Valentine in Brigham City, Utah. He has one sister, Susan, and four brothers: Bob, Jerry, Joe and Lou. In 1956 he married Deanna Olsen and together they raised two wonderful daughters, Kim and Kellie. Kellie gave him two terrific grandsons, John M. and Matthew B. Cracas. Ferd and Deanna divorced in 1975 but remained dear friends. His family was his greatest joy and we will miss him so very much. Ferd attended North Cache High School where he was on the cheerleading squad. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was First Sergeant (affectionately called "The Little Colonel") in the Brigham City National Guard upon his return. He graduated from Utah State University and was employed at Thiokol until his retirement in 1992. He was a member and past president of FOE in Brigham City and also a member of the Elks Club and Country Club. Ferd loved sports and coached Pony League baseball for many years. He was an avid supporter of the USU Aggies and was a member of the Big Blue Club. He so enjoyed traveling with the football team to their games. He was a member of the Eagle Mountain Country Club and loved golfing with his buddies in fair weather and playing cards with them when the snow flew. He was deservedly loved by so many people - we are very fortunate to have known him. The family would like to give our heartfelt thanks to all the people who helped in the care of Ferd and his daughter, Kellie. We would also like to thank all of the friends and family who helped his family caregivers, Deanna and Kim, through their donations, food and support. Edith Baddley McClurg BRIGHAM CITY - Edith Edwards Baddley McClurg, 101, passed away on December 24, 2002. She was born on August 25, 1901 in Treasureton, Idaho to David and Florence Edwards, the second of eight children. Edith married Howard Baddley on June 14, 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had four children, Betty, Dean, Gayl and Alan. Howard died in 1967. Edith married her second husband and former schoolmate, Earl McClurg in the Provo LDS Temple in 1972. He died in 1983. Edith held many church positions including Primary President, Mutual President and Ward and Stake Relief Society President. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Ogden Deseret Industries and was chairman of the Northern Utah Welfare Region. She was a member of the Willow Creek Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Civic activities were also an important part of Edith s life. She was treasurer of Willard City for 20 years and was active in the P.T.A. She wrote and directed the 100th year birthday pageant for Willard City in 1949. She was also a reporter for the Box Elder News Journal. Edith is survived by three sons and one daughter, Dean (Jean) Baddley; Alan (Joan) Baddley, both of Willard; Gayl Baddley and Betty Welker, both of Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. DENNIS LAMONT HIGLEY BRIGHAM CITY - Dennis Higley, age 63, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2002 of brain cancer. Dennis was born on January 25, 1939 in Brigham City to Lawrence Herschel Higley and Rhoda Mary Stokes. He was educated and grew up in Brigham City. He worked construction all of his life. He married Beverley Arnell in Elko, Nevada. The two of them continued living and raising family in Brigham City. Dennis had very special talents and a brilliant mind. He could create a use for anything. He could make, build or repair all that was put in front of him. He was a true jack-of-all-trades. Dennis was an avid reader all through his life until his eyes failed him. He also had a passion for fishing, which he shared with his children and grandchildren. You could always find him with a smile as long as he had a fishing pole in one hand and bait in the other. He was a collector of guns, and enjoyed reloading as a hobby. He was a member of the LDS Church and served briefly in the Marine Corp Reserves. Dennis was also a member of F.O.E. #2919. Dennis was devoted to his work and after over 20 years of service retired from Associated Brigham Contractors. He is survived by his wife Beverley of Brigham, his mother Rhoda, Burley, ID; his children Monty Jay (Jonnie), Chester Shane Higley, and April (Marc) Baird all of Brigham City; two step-daughters, Vickii (Wayne) Hardy, Bear River City and Debbie Wright of Ogden; two brothers and three sisters, Guy Higley, Brigham City, Rex Higley, Burley, ID; Gay (Bill) Billings, Tremonton; Arla (Jim) Swensen, Logan; Janice (Milo) Ross, Hazelton, ID; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He married Phyllis Nicholas Johnson on August 12, 1978, in the Ogden LDS Temple. Howard was reared and educated in the Bear River Valley and was a graduate of Bear River High School. He was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many positions. Condolences may be extended to the family at: www.rogersandtaylor.com Samuel Harvey Gordon BRIGHAM CITY - Samuel Harvey Gordon passed away on December 26, 2002, just ten days after celebrating his 95th birthday. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved everyone he met, all over the world. Sam was born December 16, 1907 in Smithfield, Utah, a son of Foster John and Isabell Meikle Gordon. He married June Luzell Nelson on August 16, 1933, in the Salt Lake Temple. He and his wife served a Church Mission and worked in the New Zealand Temple from 1958 through 1961. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many leadership positions throughout his life, including Temple Worker, High Councilor, Stake Mutual President, High Priests Group Leader, Sunday School President, and teacher in many organizations. His most loved position was serving as Scoutmaster for about 15 years in the Brigham City 1st Ward where he helped boys develop into men, many of whom became Eagle Scouts. He loved and lived Scouting ideals and received many Scouting recognitions, including the cherished Silver Beaver award. Sam graduated from North Cache High School and Utah State University, where he received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Vocational Education and School Administration. He taught at schools in Cache Valley, Millard High in Fillmore and at Snow College before moving his family to Brigham City in 1946. Sam taught agriculture at Box Elder High for many years and served as the Advisor to the FFA Chapter. His FFA teams became so successful in winning Gold Chapter Awards in State and National competitions that they became known as the "Fort Knox Chapter". Many of his FFA boys won State or National Judging Contests and many became State and National Farmers. He also started Box Elder High's wrestling and boxing teams. Many of his wrestlers became Region and/or State Champions. His wrestling teams became a dynasty, winning Region and/or State Championships many times, beginning a wonderful legacy that continues still at Box Elder High. He once even coached the State Championship Golf team for BEHS. He especially loved the many wonderful young men and women of Box Elder High, and considered them "his kids." In 1958 he and his wife moved their family to New Zealand for 3 1 2 years where he taught agriculture and wrestling at the LDS Church College. He served on the first Stake High Council outside of North America, and as its first Stake Mutual President. Wherever he traveled he made friends for his church and his country. Upon his return to the USA in late 1961, he again taught at Box Elder High and Junior High Schools before becoming Director of the Bridgerland Vocational Center in Logan for seven years. Upon his retirement in 1973, he became a leader in the AARP and Senior Citizen activities, serving as State Director and local chapter president for many years. He greatly enjoyed the Sons of the Utah Pioneers, where he served as National Vice President and as local Chapter President. Sam was one of the founders of the Golden Spike Commemoration , where he enjoyed playing the role of California's Governor Stanford for 40 years. Sam's greatest joy was in meeting and serving others and he was loved and admired by all who knew him. He made friends wherever he went and left the world a far better place. Everyone he met knew they had one more friend that day. Sam is survived by his wife June, of Perry, and their five children: Dixie (Mel) Richardson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Dr. Dennis H. (Mary Jane) Gordon, Salt Lake City; Richard F. (Claudene) Gordon, Salt Lake City; Sandra (Richard) Bouwhuis, Perry; Larry N. (Sheri) Gordon, North Salt Lake, 28 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers.
