Myrtle died Friday morning, February 1, 2002, in a care center in Murray, Utah. She was born April 9, 1916 in Brigham City to Elviria P. and Jedediah Morgan Hess. She attended schools in Brigham City and lived most of her life there. On August 24, 1938 she married Arthur E. Bosley of Corinne. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all of their family in the summer of 1988. He preceded her in death in February of 1994. She and her husband were employed at Duckville Gun Club in the early years of their marriage. She subsequently worked at the Hollywood Cafe, Baron Woolen Mills, the Box Elder High School lunch program and at the Palmer Jewelry Company. Through the years she has been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in such varied callings as Y.W., President, the Stake Y.W. and for many years as the secretary of the Sunday School. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for most of her life until the past three years. Myrtle has shared with family members and friends numerous pieces of her beautiful embroidery and crochet work. Gorgeous African violets were always in bloom in her window sills and she loved flowers and gardening. She has files and trunks full of Genealogy and history, both family and community. She is survived by three children: Edward Bosley of Salt Lake City, Marlene Hall of Salt Lake City and Bruce Bosley of Gilbert, AZ; 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; and a very special sister, Edna Younce of Hillsboro, OR. AMELIA ROSENBAUM - February 06, 2002 Amelia (Millie) Hoffman Rosenbaum, of the Brigham City and Logan areas, died January 30, 2001, at the Sunshine Terrace Nursing Home, after several months of failing health. She was 87 years old. She was born September 25, 1914 in Logan, a daughter of Albert Hoffman and Margaret Wilhelmina Cronquist. Amelia married Oreal Saltern September 25, 1930. Mr. Saltern died in April of 1931. She married Paul M. Rosenbaum December 2, 1935 in Farmington, Utah. They were married for more than 50 years. Surviving her are three children: Clarice Moberg, Mesa, Arizona; Julia Wilkes, Talent, Oregon; and Paul A. Rosenbaum, Ogden, Utah. Also surviving, a brother, Casper R. Hoffman, Logan and a sister, Kate Hovey, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan. Friends and family may call from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be immediately following in the Brigham City Cemetery. LADEAN BINGHAM - February 06, 2002 WILLARD LaDean Bingham, age 76, died Sunday, February 3, 2002 at the Brigham Hospital. She was born November 17, 1925 in Willard, UT a daughter of Orville and Myrtle Edwards Davis. LaDean married Wayne Williams on January 10, 1945. He died Aug. 28, 1954. She married Clifford Comer on July 27, 1957. They were later divorced. She married Thurman Bingham June 8, 1962. He died Aug. 19, 1992. She was raised in Woodruff, Idaho where she attended school through the 8th grade. She also attended Malad High School. LaDean moved to Willard in 1954 where she resided till her death. She worked at Utah General Depot, Intermountain Indian School, for the Forest Service and for IRS. LaDean was a member of the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she had held the positions of visiting teacher and ward librarian. Her greatest enjoyment was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to write poetry. Visit with friends, laugh at a good joke, and share chocolate chip cookies with her dog, Whoopie. Surviving are one son and two daughters: Bill Comer of Willard, Tonya & Terry Fowles of Willard and Jill & Cliff Green of Brigham City, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-children and two step sisters, Marie Hyde of SLC and Donna Feris of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one brother, one-step brother and one-step sister. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Willard 4th Ward Chapel, 80 N. 100 W., Willard. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com GEORGE DELMAR WILLIAMS - February 13, 2002 Brigham City George Delmar Williams, 91, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2002, one day prior to his 92nd birthday surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 9, 1910 in a log cabin with a dirt floor in Cedarville, Idaho to Roland and Sarah Southwick Burbank Williams. George was the youngest of nine children and was the last survivor of his family. He graduated from Box Elder High School and married his high school sweetheart, Alice Maurine Olsen on May 11, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. George was a master and meticulous brick mason. In 1969, he received the highest award in the State of Utah, The Outstanding Bricklayer of the Year. He was also known for his exceptional rockwork. He was as meticulous with his yard as with his brick masonry, where he won Yard of the Month. He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and the Brigham City First LDS Ward. Surviving are three children, Rowena (Jarvis) Facer, Willard; Roger (Susie) Williams, Brigham City; Marjorie (Glade) Gundersen, Hyrum; 6 grandchildren, Kelly Facer, Julie Schlickeiser, Sydnee Podesek, Tina Cardon, Lisa Hofmeister, Sarah Nelson; 14 great grandchildren and numerous step grand and great grandchildren. His wife, Maurine and his brothers and sisters preceded him in death. The family would like to thank Doctors Dean L. Bunderson and Lynn Q. Beard for the care they provided for our father. HUGHIE LEROY THOMPSON - February 13, 2002 Grouse Creek, UT - Hughie Leroy Thompson, 77, died Friday, February 8, 2002 of a collapsed roof accident at his home. He was born September 2, 1924 in Tremonton, UT, the son of Fredrick Edward and Margaret Ann "Dolly" Hansen Thompson. He attended elementary school at Almo, ID. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1942. Mr. Thompson was a WWII Army Veteran, stationed in Germany. Hughie married Marjorie Tanner, June 23, 1948 in the Logan LDS Temple. He owned and operated his ranch in Grouse Creek for the past 50 years. He worked for the Box Elder County Road Department for approximately 30 years. Hughie was presently a member of the Board of Directors of the Raft River Power Co-op and has done so for 50 years. He was a member and officer of the Grouse Creek Livestock Assn.; member and officer of the Grouse Creek Pipeline Company and was past president of the Grouse Creek Co-op. He was a High Priest in the Grouse Creek Ward, serving as Bishop and served in several bishoprics and Young Men's President. He was presently Sunday School President and has served in many other callings. Surviving are his wife of Grouse Creek; five children and their spouses, LaNette (Dee) Andersen, Garland; LeAnn (Richard) Orton, Brigham City; Bambi (Tim) Gardner, Pleasant View; Blair Guy (Cynthia) Thompson, Providence; Brian L. (JoLene) Thompson, Brigham City; thirty-five grandchildren, three of which are currently serving full-time LDS missions, and 26 great grandchildren. He and Marge were also foster parents to nine children. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Larena Thompson, Bliss, ID. Hughie is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Acel, Milo, Arland and Darwin; Sons-in-law, Bryan Gibbs and Keith Plowman and grandsons Joseph L. Thompson and Jake Gardner. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. at the Grouse Creek Ward Chapel, with Bishop Jay Tanner officiating. E-mail condolences to the family at www.rogersandtaylor.com HAZEL BETTY TANNER FULLER - February 13, 2002 Brigham City, Utah Betty Fuller, 81, passed away 10 February, after suffering a massive stroke 3 February 2002. She was born 31 March 1920 in Payson, Utah, the only child of Beswick Moroni Tanner and Annie Caroline Peterson. She married Dennis L. Fuller, 4 May 1946, in Provo, Utah, with a later sealing in the Manti Temple, 15 July 1960. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem, Utah and attended Brigham Young University for two years. She met her husband of 55 years while working at Fort Douglas, Utah during WWII. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While raising her family in Baker, Oregon, she served three different times as Relief Society President and in many Sunday School, Young Women, and Primary positions. Her community involvement included 19 years of PTA duties at Churchill Elementary School where all five of her children attended, President of Baker Junior High PTA, membership in the VFW Auxiliary and the Business Professional Women's Association. She worked for the US Forest Service at the Baker Ranger Station and as secretary to the forest supervisor before retiring with 17 years of service in October 1982. Upon retirement, she served three full-time temple missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Seattle Temple, the Boise Temple and the London Temple. After moving to Brigham City, Utah in 1991 she served in different positions in the Relief Society and recently received her eight year certificate for Danish Extraction. She has also served in various offices in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Deseret Camp and was serving as the 1st Vice Captain at the time of her death. Surviving her are her husband, her five children, James D. (Marilyn) Fuller, Brigham City, Utah; Richard T. (Cheryl) Fuller, Chandler, Arizona; Christopher C. (Gwen) Fuller, Arlington, Virginia; Keri E (Richard) Hatch, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and Katrina J. (Carl) Ericson, Nampa, Idaho. Twenty two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Viewing will be at Gillies-Petersen Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on 12 February 2002 and at the Brigham City 19th Ward Chapel, 105 W. Fishburn, 9:00 am to 9:45 am on 13 February. Funeral services at this Chapel are at 10:00 am. Concluding services in Baker City, Oregon at the Baker Second Ward, Hughes Lane Chapel at 2:30 pm on 14 February 2002 with a viewing at 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm at the church. Interment will be at Mt Hope Cemetery. EPHRIAM CROSSLEY - February 13, 2002 BRIGHAM CITY Ephriam Crossley, 84 passed away Thursday, February 07, 2002 at the Brigham Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born March 17, 1917 in St. Charles, Idaho to William Henry and Eva Arnell Crossley. He married Flo Jeanne Conger December 28, 1945 in Brigham City, Utah. Ephriam served in the Navy in WWII. He was a member of Brigham City 1st Ward. Ephriam loved to bowl, golf, play pinochle and have coffee with his buddies. He is a member and a past president of the Eagles. Surviving are his wife, Flo; children, Larry Crossley, Brigham City; Sheryl & Andrew Ramsay, Salt Lake City; Karen & John Stevenson, Brigham City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Maurita Crossley, Provo; and Alda Slaughter, Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham City 1st Ward Chapel, 236 East 100 South. He was born June 10, 1926 in Paterson, NJ. He married Carole Barbieri. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked as a purchasing agent for Thiokol and lived in Brigham City for 13 1/2 years. He was a member of the Grand Guardian of Job's Daughters and was a founder of Hawthorn Cavalero's Drum and Bugle, was Grand Master of the Masons in Brigham City, and was a Shriner Clown. He is survived by his wife Carole of Lake Havasu City; daughters: Elaine Jonkman of Salt Lake City, UT; Debra Furuta of port Orchard, WA; Donna Clark of Brigham City; Stepsons, Steven Jones and Kevin Jones of Lake Havasu City; Stepdaughter Carma Harper of Denver, CO; half brothers, William Barbieri and John McMenemy of New Jersey; half sisters Eileen Marciniak and Beverly Rose of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren. Services will be held today, February 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's United Methodist Church with pastor Lyndon R. Mason officiating. NELMA LOUISE FOOTE KAFTON- February 20, 2002 BRIGHAM CITY - Nelma Louise Foote Kafton passed away on Monday, February 18, 2002, after a long and valiant struggle with illness. She was born October 24, 1934, to James Lanell Foote and Martha Bernice Packer. Nelma made Henry C. Kafton, Jr. a very blessed person when she married him in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 29, 1953. Nelma was a proud and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. During her lifetime she served faithfully in all of the organizations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that she could. This service included Relief Society President, 8 1/2 years as a Stake Missionary and a teacher. Her life served as an inspiration to many friends and acquaintances. Nelma left a wonderful legacy in her four children: Louise (Conrad) Roskelley, Marie (Joel) Shepherd, David (Sheila) Kafton, and Michael (Deanna) Kafton; 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Monday, February 25, at 1 p.m. in the Central Ward Chapel, 506 South 200 East, Brigham City. MAUD HOWELL STUART - February 20, 2002 Brigham City Maude Howell Stuart, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the McKay-Dee Hospital from coronary failure. She was born on February 24, 1914 in Dayton, Idaho, a daughter of Leslie Bird and Edna Collett Howell. Maude married Rulon Stuart on December 21, 1932 in the Logan Temple. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1996. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She had taught in the M.I.A., Sunday School, Primary, and the Relief Society where she had served in the Presidency for 14 years in Pocatello, Idaho, where she also helped her husband on their farm. Maude owned & operated Wells Pharmacy and Western Auto in Wells, Nevada. She retired and moved to Brigham City in 1977. Her greatest enjoyment was her family especially her grandchildren. Surviving are two children, LaMont (Yvonne) Stuart of Wells, Nevada; LuAnn (Robert) Adams of Brigham City, Utah; 9 grandchildren, Michael Stuart and his wife, Donna; Chris and her husband, John; Tena Larsen and her husband, Dough; Bobbie Ann Adams, Ben Adams and his wife, Jenny; Don Adams, Collette Adams; 16 great grandchildren, Mandy, Josh, Brooke, Ryan, Jessica, Daniel, Bobby, Lee, Destry, Austin, Adam, Robert, Alison, Also surviving is one brother, Ivan (Maggie) Howell of Ogden, Utah. CHARLES AMAN- February 20, 2002 Charles Aman, 78, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Spring Hill, FL, went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2002. He was born in Washington, D.C., and lived in Spring Hill for 10 years before recently moving to Clearwater to live with family. He was a Christian by faith and a member of Spring Hill Bible Church in Spring Hill. He retired after 10 years from Morton Thiokol as a Research Scientist for the space shuttle program. He was a member of the American Water Workers Association and the American Chemical Society. He is survived by his wife, Pricilla of Clearwater, FL; two sons: Joseph Aman of McMurrary, PA, David Aman of Clearwater, FL; three grandchildren; one great grandchild. A memorial service was held Friday, January 18 at the Spring Hill Bible Church in Spring Hill, FL. ROSE - February 20, 2002 PERRY Hazel Atkinson Nelson Rose, our loving mother, grandmother and friend, passed away of natural causes at Sunshine Nursing Home at age 82 in Logan on Feb 14, 2002 joining her husbands, family and friends. She was born November 25, 1919 to Delbert and Selma C. Atkinson, the third of five children. She was born and raised in Clarkston, Utah and she graduated as Valedictorian of Clarkston School and from North Cache High School and LDS Seminary. Hazel met Martella T. Nelson while staying with her Aunt Rose and working at Perry Cannery. They were married in October of 1939 in the Logan LDS Temple. They supported each other in church callings and in raising their own family as well as three foster children. Mart died in October of 1974. In 1979 she married Arch Rose. He was a kind and gentle man. He and his family brought wonderful blessings to the Nelson family. He passed away in 1985. She had a very strong spiritual commitment and was a faithful, active life long member of the LDS church. She held many leadership positions. She also was a community leader and a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers. Her work ethics were developed as a child and she worked at Maddox for over 30 years. Hazel has entertained audiences with her original readings and skits throughout her life and brought laughter and joy into many lives. She always had a quick wit and sense of humor. She will always be remembered for her gracious and thoughtful manners and sharing her many talents of cooking and sewing with others. Surviving her are her three daughters; Mrs. Marvin (Gloria) Bennett, Logan, UT, Mrs. Thomas (Carol) Hurst, Tulsa Oklahoma and Ronda Nelson, Salt Lake City, UT; sisters, Violet H. Hardy, and Lola Campbell. Also surviving her are her step-children, Jerry and Janet Rose, St. George and Chesley and Joan Pierson , Calgary, Canada. She has six grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers; Joseph Atkinson, Grant Atkinson and a grandson Brad Hurst. Our heart felt gratitude is extended to the doctors and special caregivers at Sunshine Terrace Nursing Home and Hospice for their tender loving care and respect for the living. Also a special thank you to neighbors and friends in Perry who made her life so meaningful and to her extended family who was always there to give support and love. She was born December 9, 1918 in New York City, NY to Arthur Allen and Matilida Friedman Kaplan. Lenore married Raymond Braegger October 18, 1945 in the Logan Canyon, their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. She was a Nurses Aide and she enjoyed quilting , crocheting and knitting. She was, at the time, in the home of her son, Kurt, in Smithfield. She was born October 30, 1920 in Chesterfield, Idaho. The first daughter and child of Charles Theo Bradbury and Nathalie Higginson. She married Franklyn Carter Hunsaker on December 12, 1941, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. Arliss was raised in Southern Idaho, and Northern Utah. She was working in Corinne when she met Frank. They raised a large family of eight boys and one girl. She served when called in her Church and was known by all. She loved to work with people and made many friends everywhere she lived. She is survived by her children; William (Heli) of Clearfield, Gary (Madeline) of Port Huenene, Calfornia, Franklyn (Nita) of Hillsboro, Oregon, Kurt (Judy) of Smithfield, Candace (Gary) Hoover of Boise, Idaho, Charles of Ogden, Eric (Marcie) of San Jose, California, Scott (Alison) and Greg (Carol), Saugus, California. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; her three brothers, Wendell, Keith, and Philip Bradbury. One sister, Vilate Stewart of St. George. JENSEN - February 27, 2002 BRIGHAM CITY Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Kenton Leslie Jensen, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2002. He was 81 years old. He was born August 22, 1920, in Portage, Utah, the son of Leslie Joseph Jensen and Birdie Juanita Conley. For the first seven years of his life, Kent's parents worked for the railroad, and he traveled with them between Salt Lake City and Downey, Idaho. Following his parents' divorce, his mother married Harry I. Smith, and Kent moved with them to Brigham City. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1937. He attended Weber State College. He married Ruth G. Stokes on October 2, 1941 in the Logan Temple. Kent served in the 86th Finance Disbursing Section of the U.S. Army from 1943-44. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1975 as Superintendent of Postal Operations. He worked as a bookkeeper for the Box Elder News and Journal for nearly 40 years. He was past commander of the American Legion Post 10. Kent loved to golf and was a charter member of the Brigham City Golf Association. He was a high priest in the Brigham City Central Ward and served as financial clerk and as a faithful home teacher. The last few years of his life, he enjoyed attending the temple. Kent was an avid sports fan. He loved watching BYU sports, the Utah Jazz, NFL football and professional golf. Kent cared deeply for others. He spent many years selflessly caring for his wife Ruth, who was confined to a wheelchair. He always remembered and acknowledged family members' birthdays. ORA MECHAM JOHNSON WINN - February 27, 2002 Logan-Ora Mecham Johnson Winn died February 18, 2002 at the Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah from causes incident to age. Ora was born March 10, 1905 in Riverdale, Idaho. She was the third child in a family of thirteen children. Her parents were Melinda Mae Adams and Leo Mecham. On December 6, 1922 she married Heber K. Johnson of Brigham City, Utah in Ogden, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. They were married three months short of fifty years when he died of cancer in 1971. In 1972, she married Heber E. Winn of Eagle, Idaho in the Ogden Temple. They had fourteen beautiful years together and he died in 1986. Mrs. Winn moved to Logan in 1987. For the past 6 years, she lived with her daughter Beverly and John Wheeler until mid-January of 2002. Ora was an active member of the LDS Church having served as a teacher in Primary and Sunday school, and served as a Relief Society President. Ora was a visiting teacher for over sixty years. She is a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers since 1936. At the time of her death, she belonged to the Thomas X. Smith Camp of Logan, Utah. Ora enjoyed both Temple and genealogy work. She had a very positive attitude and was a great supporter of missionaries. Throughout her life, Ora has listened and responded to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. Ora is survived by three daughters, Beatrice and Jay (deceased) M. Anderson, Ogden, Utah; Lila Mae and Neal (deceased) Crowther, Malad, Idaho; and Beverly and John L. Wheeler, Logan, Utah. One step-daughter Radia and Cecil Thomas, Boise, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 39 step great -grandchildren. One sister, Clara Rainsdon, Salt Lake City, Utah and four brothers, Clifford (Adria) Mecham, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Delbert (Glenna) Mecham, Mesquite, Nevada ; Burnise (Valora) Mecham, Preston, Idaho and Donald (Jeanine) Mecham, Gilbert, Arizona. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters, 2 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter and 1 great-great granddaughter. GLORIA FAE SMITH - February 27, 2002 BRIGHAM CITY Gloria Fae Smith, 55, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2002 at the Brigham City Hospital. She was born on June 14, 1946 in Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of Heber Percy and Emma Myrtle Smith. Gloria was a member of the Brigham City 2nd LDS Ward, where she had taught Primary and Sunday School. She had served an LDS mission in the Palmyra New York Mission. She had worked at American Greetings, she was the care giver to a devoted friend, and worked at Autoliv until the time of her illness. Gloria loved to collect seashells and bells and was a devoted friend, sister and aunt. Surviving are three brothers and four sisters, Legrand (Louise) Smith, Salt Lake; Darwin (Ronda) Smith, Taylorsville; Curtis (Cindy) Smith, Brigham City; Alice (John) King, Wellsville; LaNae S. Jessop; Shana Swain, and Alisa Smith all of Brigham City; 20 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, two great nephews. SCOTT CANNON HOLMGREN - February 27, 2002 Bear River City - Scott Cannon Holmgren, 54, passed away February 25, 2002, of natural causes, at his home in Bear River City. He was born March 22, 1947, in Salt Lake City, the son of Lynne Stuart and Mary Merle Cannon Holmgren. He married Glori Welling, June 20, 1975, in the Logan Temple. They later divorced. Scott grew up in Bear River City and graduated from Box Elder High School. He graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and went on to get his MBA at the University of Utah. He served in the National Guard. He was an insurance broker for Home Life of New York, had managed Belmont Hot Springs for 19 years, was a ski instructor for Beaver Mountain and farmed in Bear River City on the family farm. He was an entrepreneur and started many businesses, including the Red Claw and the tropical fish hatchery at Belmont Springs. His hobbies were skiing, snowboarding and golfing. He loved horses, music, telling a good joke and pulling pranks. He was a talented writer and was a member of a local writer's club. He loved to draw and did many pieces of artwork of his children. He was a hard worker. He was an Elder in the Bear River 1st Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Sydney, Australia, served as a Ward Clerk, in the Elder's Quorum Presidency and taught Sunday School in the Fielding/Hampton Ford Ward where he resided for 19 years. He is survived by his mother Mary Merle (Dwight) Anderson, Bear River City; his children, Britany Lyn Holmgren, Fielding; Darcie Jo (Kody) Merritt, Murray; Harmony Glori Holmgren, Salt Lake City; Cannon Scott Holmgren, Fielding; Abbey Sky Holmgren, Fielding; two grandchildren, Hayden Kelsie Merritt and Halli Lyn Mueller ; sisters, Shauna Lyn (John R.) GONZALEZ - February 27, 2002 BRIGHAM CITY Zeferino Jose Gonzalez, 46, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2002 at the Brigham City Hospital from cancer. CORWIN - February 27, 2002 BRIGHAM CITY Walter Lee Corwin, Jr., 83, passed away Monday, February 25, 2002 at the Brigham City Community Hospital. He was born August 2, 1918 in Fairview, Oklahoma to Walter L. Corwin, Sr. and Josephine Ratzlaff Corwin. Walter graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1941 with a B.S. degree in electrical engineering. He was a Captain in the US Army Signal Corps during WWII from July 1941 to December 1945 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force Reserve. Walter retired as an engineer from Thiokol Chem. Corp. after 24 years. He was married to Dorothy Niehusen on March 8, 1941 in Oklahoma City and is survived by her and three children, Judy C. (Lynn) Brailsford, Brigham City, Donald J. (Dena) Corwin, Mead, WA, and Thomas A. (Linda) Corwin, Lawton, OK one sister, Janet (Robert) Taylor, Tulsa, OK, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Helen Fellows. Walter was a wood carver and shared his talent with family and friends. In 1996, he helped build the model trains that circled the National Christmas tree celebrating the statehood of Utah. He was an active member and Elder of the Community Presbyterian Church of Brigham City. Longhurst, devoted father, grandfather and friend, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2002, in Salt Lake City at the age of 82. He was born on April 13, 1919, in Randolph, Utah, to Lewis Leroy Longhurst and Elizabeth McKinnon Longhurst. He was raised in Randolph, where he learned the value of hard work, an ethic he passed on to his family. After attending Utah State University he served a mission for the LDS Church in the Eastern States Mission. Following his mission he enlisted in the military and served a tour of duty in Sicily and Northern Africa during World War II. Upon his discharge from the military, he married Joyce Peart on November 13, 1945 in the Logan Temple. Together they raised seven children and lived in Star Valley, WY, and Brigham City, UT, where he was employed at Thiokol Corporation. They were later divorced. On September 30, 1983, Clayton married Dorothy Rogers and resided in Sandy. Together their served a mission in Barbados. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions. It can be said that his life was spent in the service of others. He loved to dance with his many friends, share his garden produce with neighbors, and support his children and grandchildren in their various activities. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy which includes four sons and two daughters: Craig Longhurst, Houston; Scott Longhurst, North Ogden; Margo (Tony) Reyna, Ogden; Paul (Denise) Longhurst, Mendon; Mark (Suzanne) Longhurst, Temecula, CA; and April Longhurst, San Diego; 24 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a step-family who loved him as their own father and grandfather: Lark (Douglas) Woodbury, Layton; Lori Rogers, Sandy; Mike (Janet) Rogers, South Jordan; LeNae (Robin) Onstad, San Antonio; 15 step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Eddis Huffaker, Woodruff, UT. He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother, and a son, Jeffrey P. Longhurst. Funeral services were Saturday, February 23, at the Alta Heights Ward. Interment followed at the Randolph City Cemetery. Carrie Marie Poppleton McBride Fuhriman - February 27, 2002 Our beloved mother, grandmother and best friend Carrie Fuhriman, 87, passed away February 18, 2002, at Sunshine Terrace from complications due to strokes. She was born June 18, 1914 in Wellsville, Utah, a daughter of William R. and Annie Larsen Poppleton. Carrie graduated from South Cache High School. She married Marion W. McBride and they had two daughters, Marilyn and Dixie. They were later divorced. She married Lewis E. Fuhriman and they lived in Bountiful and moved to Logan and retired in their Canyon Road home. Lew died in 1973 while they were on a fishing trip. For several years she worked at the Bushnell Hospital in Brigham. It was very interesting but sad as the wounded returned from war areas during World War II. She worked for the government at Hill Air Force Base from which she retired after 24 years of service. Carrie loved being with her family. Her two daughters always included her in their activities. She experienced much happiness when in the presence of her grandchildren. She loved her neighbors and enjoyed her ward meetings when she was able to attend. She always loved the church. In her younger years she worked in the Presidency as a teacher in the Primary, Sunday School and Young Women. Her hobbies were camping, reading and handwork, especially embroidery and crocheting. Patience and hard work were learned from her. We will miss her kind yard, her generosity, her unconditional love and zest for living. What a wonderful example, she has been. She will be in our hearts forever. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Thomas) Walker, Honeyville; Dixie (Dewey) Neves, Logan; grandchildren: Linda (John) Reese; Ladd (Cindy) Walker; Vickie (Curtis) Anderson; Dana (Wayne) Wylie; Darin Neves; Devin (Brenda) Neves; 12 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three stepchildren: Lewis (Helen) Fuhriman, Boise, Idaho; Diane (Larry) Perkes, Hyde Park; Linda (Fredrick) Lee, Pleasanton, California; nine step grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Verda Hall, Wellsville and Celia Bailey, Wellsville. She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; her grandson Thomas Walker (Tommy); two sisters, Clora Stuart and Leola Bailey; four brothers: William (Bill), George, Roy and Marvin Poppleton. Services were held Friday, February 22, at Allen-Hall Mortuary, Logan. Burial in the Wellsville City Cemetery.
