HUNSAKER HONEYVILLE, Rhea Caroline Hess Hunsaker, 87, passed away Monday, August 4, 2003 at Emeristus Estates. Rhea was born in Fielding, Utah on July 10, 1916 a daughter of Charles C. and Jane Elizabeth Owen Hess. She married Theo P. Hunsaker on July 18, 1934 in Brigham City, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in 1952 in the Logan Temple. She finished her education and graduated from Box Elder High School with her daughter in 1959. Education was very important to her. She encouraged everyone in her family to further their education. She worked in the Library at Box Elder High School and had positions with Thiokol and IRS. Rhea lived in Honeyville for 68 years. Honeyville was her love. She was a member of the Honeyville 2nd Ward, were she served in many positions in the Primary. Her greatest accomplishment was her family. They were central to her life. Rhea was preceded in death by her parents, husband and nine brothers and sisters and her good friend and companion Ralph Noyes. Surviving are her daughter; Rilla and Ralph Gardner, Pleasant View; son; Ronald T. Hunsaker of Layton; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are her brother; Quintin R. (Vonda) Hess, Fielding; sisters-in law; Naomi Hunsaker, Venna Hunsaker, Mozell Hess, Josphine Hess, Zelda Hess, Dorothy Hunsaker. He was born in Corinne on October 19, 1927 a son of Ray Owen and Pearl Holley. Quentin married Alyce Whitaker Glenn on September 7, 1954 in Ogden, UT, she passed away in Jan. of 1995. He received his education in Corrine. Quentin worked construction and for the railroad, before working for 31 and a half years at Brigham City Corporation. After his retirement he loved to farm and travel with his faithful sidekick Claire. He was best known for his animal pancakes, and doing practical jokes. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alyce, and stepson, Richard LeRoy Glenn. Surviving are his children; Ellen Varner, Brigham City; Judy (Scott) Burt, Willard; Michael Ray Holley, Brigham; KC (Gene) Williams, Tremonton; Peggy (John) Gibson, Brigham, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, nephew, Robin Holley, Ogden, cousins, Glen H. White, Ontario, OR, Helen Hansen, Bear River City and his side kick Claire Edmondson the true friend that stuck by his side through thick and thin no matter how bumpy the road got.. She was born October 14, 1921 in Mt. Olive, Alabama a daughter of John W. and Victoria Louis Clark. Alma married Rex W. Bryant, they were married for 50 years. They moved to Brigham City in 1957. He died on May 8, 1998. She was active in the F.O. E. for over 30 years. Alma was a member of the Baptist Church. She was an avid golfer. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Rex and grandson, Kevin Limb. Surviving are her children; Deaine Limb, Brigham City; R. Preston (Terrie) Bryant, Brigham City; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, two sisters; Arlissie Rucker, Rock Springs, Georgia, Almedia Croft, California. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com McLaine Norton BRIGHAM CITY- McLaine Norton, 78, died Monday, August 11, 2003, at the Brigham City Hospital. McLaine was born December 29, 1924 ,in Panguitch, Utah, a son of Albert and Agnes Miller Norton. He served in the Army during WWII. McLaine married Dorothy Roberts on May 17, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a member of the Brigham City Thirteenth Ward where he served as a high priest, scout leader, teacher and ward clerk. McLaine was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and two great-grandsons. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy of Brigham City; children: Robert (Larrie) Norton, Corinne; Debra Joan Norton, Panguitch; David K. Norton, Brigham City; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com Frank Edward Jones BRIGHAM CITY - Frank Edward Jones, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at his son's home. He was born on December 5, 1920 in Pocatello, Idaho, a son of Frank Edgar and Emma Lydia Stones Jones. He married Ruth Mary Leiby in June of 1946 in Walla Walla, WA. They were later divorced. He married Clara Margaret Israelson on December 14, 1974, in Tacoma, WA. They were later divorced. Frank was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving in the Army as a Command Sgt-Major. While serving in the wars, he received two Purple Hearts, Bronze Star w/V for Valor and other honors. He served 23 years in the U.S. Army as a Combat Engineer. He was an expert Marksman. After retiring from the army he worked in construction management and as a business consultant. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an avid table tennis player, and enjoyed playing basketball. Surviving are six children and one daughter-in-law: Paula Lindsay, Kingsport, TN; Carol Roberts, Salt Lake City, UT; William (Nancy) Jones, St. Paul, MN; Merry (James H.) Reed, South Jordan, UT; James (Linda) Jones, Pleasant Grove, UT; John (Jody) Jones, Brigham City, UT; Carolyn Jones, Sandy, UT; 36 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, David C. Jones. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, at 11 a.m. at the Brigham City Eighth Ward, 139 East 300 North. A viewing will be held on Saturday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello, Idaho. We will meet for the graveside at 3 p.m., where military honors will be accorded. Grant Henry Johnson ROY Grant Henry Johnson died August 6, 2003. He was 71 years old having been born on November 26, 1931, in Frontier, Lincoln, Wyoming. He was born to Albert Sidney Johnson and Tillie June Groutage. He was the third child, his brother Albert Sidney Johnson has preceded him in death. He has one living sister Ellen Peel. Grants mother at the age of six was taken to the hospital until she died when Grant was 15 years old. He was raised by his grandmother and grandfather, William Henry and Roseabell McGinnis Johnson. At 18 he was called to serve in the Marines. He served full time in Korea. After the war he came home and went to work in Brigham City. There he met and married Lela Mae Nelson, she died a short time later of diabetics. He then met and married Janice Nelson. They had three children, Debra Ann Johnson, Rosalie Johnson, and Annette Johnson. They were later divorced. On October 25, 1979 Grant married June Linda Patterson in the Ogden Temple. June died May 21, 2003. Grant was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Roy Fourteenth Ward having served many years as the secretary of the High Priest Group. Grant is survived by his three daughters and one granddaughter Megan. Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 9, at 12 noon at Brigham City Cemetery, 325 South Third East. Send condolences to family at www.myers-mortuary.com Clarke Ned Johnsen "Gentleman and Peacemaker" Clarke Ned Johnsen, 81, passed away July 19, 2003 in Salt Lake City. He was born August 14, 1921 in Bear River City, UT, the fifth of 10 children born to Henry C. Johnsen and Margaret Taylor. He attended elementary school in Bear River City and graduated from Box Elder High School where he participated on the basketball team and performed with the band. Clarke married Elaine Longstroth in Malad, ID, February 12, 1943, prior to volunteering for the Army Air Corps. This marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 10, 1944. He served his country during World War II in the European Theater participating in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhine. He attended Weber Junior College, Lehigh University (PA), and Utah Agriculture College, where he participated on the basketball squads. He received his master's degree from the University of Utah. Clarke's career in education in the Tooele County School District spanned 35 years as a math and English teacher, coach, principal and superintendent of schools. He loved watching athletic events, especially when his grandchildren participated, golfing and being with his family. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was central to all he did. He served in many positions in the church including second counselor in the Tooele Stake presidency. He enjoyed his relationship with the Young Adults and connecting them to the Book of Mormon. Clarke and Elaine served in the California Santa Rosa Mission, 1989-1991. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children: JoAnn (Paul) Loveless, Mike (JoLynne) Johnsen, Jill (Bill) Hoggan; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Noel (June) Johnsen, Charlene Hightsman, Vard (Tracey) Johnsen, Cherie (Ken) Greenough. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Services were held at the Tooele Middle Canyon Ward Chapel. Interment, Tooele City Cemetery. Director, Tate Mortuary. Max Elliott Jenson "Music was his passion" Max Elliott Jenson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, peacefully joined his wife on July 14, 2003. He was born June 28, 1912, in Bear River City, Utah, to Orestus Jenson and Amanda Sine Jonhsen. He married Rite Wikinson, September 3, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death on January 13, 2001. A dedicated worker, Max was vice president of Beneficial Life, an M.A.I. appraiser, an insurance agent, and a real estate agent. Max served others selflessly his entire life through numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and service to his community. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, his family and serving others. His true passion was music. He played the piano, organ, banjo, accordion, drums, and guitar. For over 10 years his band played (without fee) at the Blind Center in Salt Lake City, the Heritage Retirement Home in Bountiful, Valley Fair Mall, and other places. Max received the J.C. Penney "Golden Rule Award" in 1996 and was nominated for the "Utah Quiet Pioneer" award in 1996 - both of these awards were a tribute to serving others in the community. Siblings who preceded him in death were Floyd, Merle and Gayle. He is survived by devoted son Larry M. and his wife Sharlene, and daughters, Julie and her husband Steven Shaprio, and Linda Jenson; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, July 18. Interment in Larkin Sunset Gardens. "TOGETHER FOREVER" Blanche F. Frodsham BRIGHAM CITY - Blanche Frye Frodsham, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2003, surrounded by her loving family in West Valley City. She was born on July 17, 1915, in Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of Alfred Thomas and Ivy Hansen Frye. Blanche married her sweetheart Verland Jay Frodsham on November 20, 1931 in Brigham City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on February 24, 1932. She was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved going to the temple. She enjoyed gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, traveling and being with her family and friends. Surviving are three children: Arlene (Ken) Allen, West Valley City; David (Joyce) Frodsham and Edris (Darrell) Johnson both of Brigham City; nine grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Golden, Ogden and Marian Elwood of Smithfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, one grandson, three brothers and one sister. She was born on July 13, 1920, in Preston, Idaho, a daughter of Caleb Johnson and Agnes Amelia Ransom Burton. Fern married Morris N. Burt on November 13, 1939, in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in various callings in the Primary, Mutual, Sunday School and Relief Society. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Seagull Camp. She had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Mary P. Reeder and worked at the Brigham City Museum Gallery. Fern loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, and listening to music. Surviving are one son, M. Steven (Linda) Burt of Brigham City; six grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; one sister, Venna (Clive) Waters of Brigham City; two brothers, Golden (Doris) Burton of Thatcher; Lynn Ransom Burton of Brigham City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, one daughter, Genevieve Bess, one son, Thomas Stewart, one grandson, Bryan Steven Burt, three sisters and four brothers. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Bear River Valley Care Center folks and the sing along gang for their loving care and quality of life provided to Fern these past few years. Cherice Kapinos OGDEN - Cherice BreNae Wells Kapinos of Ogden, born March 23, 1976, to Mike and Ruby (Dodd) Wells, died in an auto accident near Fillmore, Ut, on August 11, 2003. Cherice was 27 years old. She had been visiting family in the Las Vegas area with her husband and two sons. Cherice graduated from Weber High School where she had to keep her grades up because she was on the Warriorettes Drill Team. During her senior year she was the Warriorettes President. While performing with them, they won several awards, both in-state and in national competitions. Cherice loved to dance and always dreamed of forming her own dance studio. She began dance when she was five years old. She performed at the Stadium of Fire for many years. She marched in many parades. Cherice acquired many friends over the years. She touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her glowing personality and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten. Cherice began working for the Weber County Sheriff's Office in 1995. She gained many new friends, whom she was able to keep laughing and in good spirits, with her spicy personality. Cherice married Alan John (AJ) Kapinos, the son of Alan and Nancy Kapinos, January 22, 1998. Together they had a son Kadin Lane, who died at birth. They later had another son, Jakade Alan. Not long after that, they took Jakade with them to the Bountiful Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were sealed for all time and eternity on January 26, 1999. Nine months ago they received another beautiful baby boy, Kelsen Michael. Cherice is preceded in death by her niece, Tiese Wells and her son, Kadin Lane Kapinos. Cherice was very fortunate to have two mothers and fathers who loved her very much and she was able to get along with all four of them very well, Ruby and Shannon Spencer of Brigham City, and Michael and Kathy Wells of Harrisville. Cherice also left behind grandparents, Gracie and Arlin Poulson and Alvin and Laura Wells; two brothers Steven and Jason Wells; two step sisters, Cammie and Darcie Youngberg; one foster sister, Concita (Woodis) Cates; two sisters-in-law, Jennifer Kapinos-Pedri and Nicole (David) Herrington; several nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles, all of whom cherished her. Funeral service were held Monday, August 18, at the Mt. Lewis Sixth Ward, 1200 North Monroe. Interment took place at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Cherice loved beautiful things, especially flowers, but in lieu of flowers please make donations to the AJ Kapinos Donation Fund at any Zions Bank Branch, so her children can enjoy beautiful things as well. Funeral arrangement under the direction of Aaron's Mortuary and Crematory, 1600 Washington Blvd. Brandon Alabaster (Jenkins) Kitada OGDEN Our loving son and brother returned to his Father in Heaven on August 19, 2003. He was in the comfort of his home surrounded by loving family and many friends. He passed away after a long hard battle with Ewings Sarcoma (bone cancer). He was born July 9, 1984 in Tremonton, Utah. He is the son of Kent and Iris Kitada. Kent adopted him on June 21, 2001. Brandon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Mt. Lewis 4th Ward. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 2003, where he was an honor student, lettered in wrestling, played on the football team and was an honorary captain his senior year. He was also a platoon leader in the JROTC, and he was a member of the Ogden Judo Club. He loved to cook, read books, play video games and spend lots of time with his friends and family. Two of his goals were to become a culinary artist and to be a medical therapist. He shared his Make A Wish with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brandon had a sweet and loving spirit and was loved by all that knew him. Brandon was a great inspiration to us all by showing how to be courageous even in the worst of times. We will miss his sense of humor and his caring and loving ways. We will always have a special place in our hearts for him and we know his spirit will live in us all forever. He will always be our hero. Brandon is survived by his parents, Kent and Iris of Ogden; two sisters, Shanna Leece Kitada and Charlotte Rebecca Linder, Ogden; grandparents, Frank and Ann Kitada, Los Angeles, CA; James Tanner and Maxine Barfus Westmoreland; and his dog Blanca. He is also survived by four nephews, one niece, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Iris Janet Bissegger Evans and a cousin, Heidi Jo Page. We would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Oncology departments at Primary Children s Medical Center and Ogden Regional Medical Center, for making Brandon s battle a little easier and for making it easier for our family. Samuel was born on July 22, 1920 in Brigham City to Samuel Earl and Ada Grace Hess Snow. He married Ruth Diane Rockwood on July 17, 1948 in Brigham City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple in February 1964. He was a High Priest in the Portage Ward and served there in various callings. Samuel served in WWII as a Marine. During his lifetime he lived in Utah, Colorado and Arizona. The things he enjoyed most were his family and raising cattle. He is survived by his wife and their four children: Sam Snow, Susan (Grant) Bell both of Portage, Debbie (Clint) Cooper of Newton, and Bill (Julie) Snow of Tremonton. Also surviving are his sisters: Olive (Frank) Baily of California and Juanita (Wynn) Jensen of Brigham City, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is preceded in Death by his parents, two brothers: Lorenzo and Bill, and a sister Bette. Condolences may be extended to the family at: www.rogersandtaylor.com Marilyn Wadsworth Gordon Marilyn Wadsworth Gordon, 55, formerly of Brigham City, Utah, now of Mesa, Arizona, was taken to live with our Heavenly Father on August 9, 2003 after a two-year battle with cancer. She leaves behind her two daughters, Tracy and Audra, two grandchildren, Jacob and Kylie and her significant other, Paul Allgood. Marilyn was a kind, devoted, loving mother, friend and neighbor. She will be forever in our hearts and deeply missed. Marilyn's daughters and Paul wish to thank all the Hospice staff who took such wonderful and loving care of her, and all Marilyn's friends who came to visit during her illness. Finally, a special thank you to Southwest Airlines, for all the cards, gifts, visits and phone calls that put a smile on her face and just for being there during her time of need. She truly loved working for Southwest and thought the world of the company and everyone there. Private family services were held. Merlin L. Larsen MANTUA - Merlin Lee Larsen, 85, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003, at a Health Care facility in Pocatello, Idaho, after and extended illness. He was born May 3, 1918, in Mantua, Utah, to Lars Larsen and Olga Linbo Larsen. He married Trena Christensen on July 26, 1945 in the Logan LDS Temple, Logan, Utah. Merlin went to school in Box Elder School District. He worked for the United States Government at the Ogden Defense Depot in Ogden, Utah. Merlin worked as a custodian with the Box Elder School District for several years. He served in many civic positions including Mantua Town Board. Merlin was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings in the ward and stake. He was very active in temple work for many years. Merlin served as a visitor center missionary at the Tabernacle in Brigham City, Utah for 15 years. He is survived by his wife Trena Christensen Larsen; his son Lee Randall (Kathryn) Larsen; his five grandchildren: Amy Kathryn Larsen, Emilee Jane (Jayson) Corpus, Jared Lee Larsen, Eric Randall Larsen, Ryan Corbett Larsen and four great-grandchildren: Andrew, Cameron and Mikaela Corpus and Logan Larsen all of Pocatello, Idaho and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, at 1 p.m. at the Mantua First Ward Chapel, 237 South Willard Peak Rd., Mantua, Utah with Bishop Kent Jeppsen officiating. Hawkes BRIGHAM CITY Curtis Wayne Hawkes, 38, passed away Monday, August 25, 2003, after a life-long fight with cystic fibrosis. Curtis was born December 4, 1964, in Brigham City to the loving parents of Glenn and Peggy Joyce Wagner Hawkes. Curtis graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Weber State earning a degree in Architectural Design Technology. He has worked at James O. Chamberlain's office in Ogden since 1988. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Curtis was fortunate enough to serve a mission for the church in New Mexico. Curtis served as Executive Secretary in the Eagle Mountain Ward through four Bishoprics. For many years Curtis helped with Cystic Fibrosis Camp during the summers. He loved the camp and the many children "campers". Curtis cherished the many friendships and looked forward to camp each year. Preceded in death by a brother, Don. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com Layne Crook Lancaster BRIGHAM CITY - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend returned home to our Heavenly Father Saturday, August 30, 2003 after a long battle with cancer, where he was surrounded by his family. He loved them more than anything in this world and he desperately wanted to come home to them. Layne was born June 3, 1943, to Robert Thomas and Ella Crook Lancaster in Smoot, Wyoming. He spent his growing years in his beloved Star Valley where he herded sheep with his brothers on the family ranch. Layne was called and served in the North Central States L.D.S. Mission, following his mission he married Ella Lou Allred, August 25, 1964, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Layne worked a few years in the grocery business, construction and as a cabinet builder at McKay Dee Hospital. When he wasn t busy there he was helping with maintenance at A&R Transport, doing wood working projects, or helping build houses. He was an incredible man. Layne is survived by his wife, Ella Lou; five sons: Randal (Janette), Farr West; Boyd (Sharon), Brigham City; Scott (Nicole), Roy; Kirk (Lisa), Ogden; Gary (Katrina), Brigham City; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; one brother and five sisters: Audene Thornock, Kemmerer, WY; Marilyn (Roland) Johns, Cokeville, WY; Vernon (Ann) Lancaster, Afton, WY; Delsa (Kay) Erickson, Fairview, WY; Roberta Ann (Russell) Larsen, Grantsville, UT; Julia (Garland) Kennington, Riverton, WY. His parents, two brothers and one grandson preceded him in death. We would like to express our heart felt thanks to all the Doctors and Nurses at LDS Hospital that helped take care of Layne through this fight.
