He was born October 28, 1928, in Sciotoville, Ohio. He enjoyed a Tom Sawyer existence along the Ohio River with his brothers. His family moved to Orem, Utah, when his father, knowledgeable in steel mill operations, came to help start the Geneva Steel operation when Harold was 12 years old. Harold served in France during World War II and later worked at Hill Air Force Base where he was employed in various professional capacities until he retired. He married Beth Shumway from Lovell, Wyoming. He is survived by three sons: Michael Harold (Kathie), Fletcher, OK; Patrick Wesley, Layton, UT; Max Christopher (Linda), Corinne, UT; and one daughter, Marcie Anne (Rod), Palo Alto, CA. He has sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Leo Willard, and two sisters, Kathleen Warden and Mary Opal Allen. Harold was preceded in death by his parents John Wesley Moore, Dorothy Vance Moore, a brother, John Wesley Moore, Jr., and grandson Aaron Patrick Moore. Harold loved the intermountain west where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, buying and remodeling real estate, and gardening. He bestowed a love of the outdoors and an appreciation for nature's beauty upon his children. He will be greatly missed. Interment with a graveside service will take place in the Brigham City Cemetery at 2 p.m. on July 10. Family and friends are invited to attend. Dewey J Gill WEST JORDAN Dewey J Gill, an infinitely honest and generous man passed away Thursday, July 3, 2003 at the Care Source Hospice facility in Salt Lake City, Utah after a difficult battle with cancer. He was born September 5, 1924 in Preston, Idaho, a son of George Peter and Wanda Johnson Gill. He was educated in Salt Lake City and graduated from Weber State University. Dad married Wanda Kathryn Baker on June 20, 1945 in Bakersfield California. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 25, 1952. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, Elders Quorum president, member of a branch presidency, High Priest group leader and Home Teacher. His military and civil service employment gave his family and him opportunities to live in many parts of the world including Libya, France, Germany, England, Thailand, and Holland. He enjoyed being a meticulous watchmaker and model airplane hobbyist. He was the devoted caregiver to his wife, Wanda, for the last 6 years following her massive stroke. His love and service were a shining example to all who knew him. Dad took special pride and joy in being with all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family members. In recent months he spent many special hours with Tyrell who will miss his buddy. Survivors include his wife, Wanda, children, Rebecca (Bruce) Buland, Brigham City, Jay (Jeanette) Tremonton, Debra (Paul) Masimer, Kearns, Daniel, West Valley City and Milla (John) Jamison, West Jordan; a brother, Gordon, Bountiful; 21 grandchildren 15 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wayne. At dad s request, there will not be a viewing. Friends and family are invited to attend graveside services at 11:00 A.M Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Camp Williams Veterans Memorial State Park, 17111 South Redwood Road in Bluffdale, Utah. JOHNSON TOGETHER FOREVER BRIGHAM CITY Ada Gyllenskog Johnson, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Brigham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on October 6, 1918 in Smithfield, Utah, a daughter of Joseph and Florence Ada Davis Wood Gyllenskog. She lived in Smithfield until she was 15 years old. She came to live with her Uncle and Aunt in Brigham City, where she attended Box Elder High School. She married Don Forrest Johnson on October 15, 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1998. Ada was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Brigham City 8th Ward. She served as Relief Society President, President of the Young Womens Organization, sang in the choir and was the chorister. She was a dental assistant in Brigham City from 1949 working with four dentist s in the Brigham City area until her retirement in the 1980 s. She loved music, gardening, cooking, but most of all her family and especially her eternal sweetheart, Don. Surviving are two children, Darrell (Edris) Johnson of Brigham City; Sharon (Tom) Wingstad of Draper; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Beth (Lawrence) Dottage of Buena Park, California. Ada was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and three sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gillies Petersen Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City. Laura Pearl Moss Rhodes Garland- Laura Pearl Moss Rhodes, 89, peacefully passed away at her home in Garland. She was the daughter of Calvin W. and Olive Pearl Boulton Moss. She Married Ursel Clifton Rhodes on November 29, 1933 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on February 21, 1936. She was a graduate of Davis High School, and later lived in Fielding, East Garland, Hawaii, and Nevada. She served an LDS mission with her husband, Ursel, in Guam. Pearl was a housewife all of her life, and raised three children in her home. She was a member of the LDS church where she served in many different callings. She also was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Surviving are one son and one daughter, Vaughn (Carole) Rhodes, East Garland; Nadine R. (David) Bartholomew; Laguna Beach, California; 21 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ursel C. Rhodes, son Bert Rhodes, grandson Tommy, brother Keith, and a sister Gladys. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday July 9, 2003 at the Garland LDS Tabernacle, located at 140 West Factory street in Garland. BERYL A. WESTLEY ROY- Beryl Ashby Westley, 72, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Heritage Park Care Center in Roy, Utah. She was born on January 23, 1931 in Seattle, Washington, a daughter of Warren and Helen Barrett Ashby. Beryl married Clarence Fawson Westley on December 1, 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple. She and her husband worked together at Hill Air Force Base with her husband, at the watch repair shop. Beryl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as ward librarian in the Sandridge Ward in Roy. She loved to crochet baby blankets, sweaters, and doll dresses for angels. She belonged to the Coast Guard Auxiliary and also with React. Surviving are five children, Dianne Marie Clifton of Corinne; Michael Edward Westley of North Carolina; Tamie Westley of Ogden; RoxAnna Jean Liston-Quimby of Las Vegas, Nevada; Thomas Alfred Westley of Rawlins, Wyoming; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; one brother, Dale Ashby of Tacoma, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence. Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Brigham City Cemetery. She was born May 1, 1925 in Henefer, Utah a daughter of Joseph William and Lydia May Bunot Richins. Norma married Hyrum Tucker in the Salt Lake Temple, he later died. She loved to embroidery and visit with everyone. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Norma was a member of the LDS Church. Rowe, 78, died July 22, 2003, at his home of leukemia. He was born April 28, 1925, in Garland, UT, a son of William H. and Marjorie Lela Barnard Rowe. He married Barbara June Hewlett on Nov 27, 1944, in the Logan Temple. Billy was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Perry First Ward. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1943. He worked at Intermountain Indian School for 33 years as well as a pilot in the Air Force Reserve. Billy was a member of the Box Elder Credit Union Supervisory Committee. His greatest joy in life was his family, flying and "The Cabin." She was born July 9, 1925 in Kelly, Wyoming to Ray and Mabel Woodward Shinkle. She spent her growing years in Kelly, attending the local schools. She married Ivan C. Mangum in Jackson, Wyoming and the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They moved to Brigham City, Utah and raised their family of four sons and one daughter. She later moved to Richmond, where she resided for the past twenty years. Ivan passed away November 9, 1995. May was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She is survived by her children: Michael (Lynne), Richmond; Rodney, Richmond; Larry (Patricia), Plain City; Jill (Ken) Thomas, Layton; Thomas (Lisa), Providence; 22 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers: Keith and Vern Shinkle; and two sisters: Hazel James and Joan Hatfield. Her parents, her husband and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death. Robinette, 82, died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, at Lodi Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born February 17, 1921, to Mac and Anna Robinette in Brigham City, Utah, he moved to California during WWII to work in the shipyards. He was a resident of Stockton, California, for 37 years where he retired from the Stockton State Hospital after 27 years as a Psychiatric Technician. He moved to Payson, Arizona, and Clearlake Oaks, California, before returning to the area and settling down in Lockeford, California, where he was a volunteer at the Senior Center until his death. His passions were his family and friends, camping, fishing, traveling, and spinning a good story or joke. A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wendell was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Bernice, brothers Delbert, Martin and Howard Robinette, and sister Olive Fraughton. He was survived by his daughter Loretta (Lori) Gagnon of Stockton, CA, grandchildren Amy and Brian Baker to Stockton, CA, brother Dee Robinette of Providence, Utah, and brother Darrell Robinette of Orem, Utah, and numerous nieces and nephews. Max Bywater EAST GARLAND - Max Bywater, 68 returned to his Heavenly Father on July 21, 2003, after a long battle with cancer. Max was the fourth son of Milton Alfred and Lilas Mary Simper Bywater born on April 22, 1935, in Brigham City, Utah. He grew up on the family farm in Bear River City and graduated from Box Elder High School. He married Roberta Rose Pritchard on June 2, 1966. Their marriage was later solemnized on June 2, 1969 in the Logan Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He made his home in East Garland on a farm. Max was a very hard worker and he taught his children the importance of this value. He worked at Thiokol for 29 years as a millwright. After his retirement he drove bus for Box Elder School District. Max had a love for animals and enjoyed many activities in his life. He was a member of the Golden Spike Cutter Racing Association, 4-H leader, Box Elder County Sheriff's Posse, Bear River High School Rodeo Advisor, Board of Director of Utah Stock Dog Association. Through these activities he touched many lives both young and old. He was an active member of the East Garland Ward where he served as a Scout Leader, High Priest, Secretary and Teacher. He was in the Elder's Quorum Presidency. He served two missions with his wife Roberta to the Nauvoo, Illinois Pageant and the Ogden Cannery. He is survived by his wife Roberta Rose Pritchard Bywater and children: Michele (Bill) Bowden, Perry; Rodney M. (Becki) Bywater, Fielding; Chris A. (Cali) Bywater, Garland; Karen (Travis) Nelson, Elwood; Ryan (Sandy Jo) Bywater, Tremonton; Bryan (Erika) Bywater, Tremonton; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brothers: Milton S. MERLE M. COLEMAN BRIGHAM CITY Merle Marion Coleman, 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at her home in Brigham City. She was born on August 1, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Edwin N. Williams Jr. and Clara Louise Keifer. Merle married her sweetheart, Robert Clyde Coleman on August 22, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Brigham City 14th Ward, where she had served as ward librarian. Her love of children was reflected in her service in the Primary and Cub Scouts. Merle had worked as administrative secretary at JC Penney, and was a Certified Medical Records Technician at the Cooley Memorial Hospital until 1978. Her husband and family were the focus of her life. Merle s greatest joy was being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving is her husband, Robert of Brigham City; four boys and one tom boy, Dennis (Polly) of Salt Lake City; David (Julie) of Brigham; Dal (Julie) Coleman; Deen (Judy) of Brigham; Kris (Craig) Robinette of Brigham; 22 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Williams of Ogden; Ronnie Williams of California. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Ray; two brothers and two sisters. She was born on April 9th, 1928 in Thatcher, Idaho. She was the daughter of Clarence Samuel Bennett and Leah Bodell Hansen. She married Martin Dale Dursteler. They were later divorced. She married her soul mate Joseph B. Roper on September 21, 1956. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her children; Clarence (Linda) Dursteler, West Valley, UT; Dale Ray (Joann) Dursteler, Henry, ID; Dick (Connie) Dursteler, Soda Springs, ID; Marlene (Robert) Spendlove, Karen (Kenneth) Vanderhoof, Joseph O. (Shauna) Roper all of Brigham City; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one son, Donald Dursteler. She was born on October 21, 1927 in Yost, Utah, a daughter of Abraham and Clara Emma Tracy. Verla was raised in Yost and Brigham City, Utah, graduating from Box Elder High School in 1945. On June 10, 1949 she married Donald Ray Jensen for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they moved to Roy, Utah to raise their family and resided there for 26 years. In 1986 they moved to Ogden, Utah. After her beloved husband passed away on April 5, 1995, she then returned to Roy, Utah and lived there until her passing. Verla worked for the Mountain States Telephone Company in Brigham City, as a telephone operator, for several years. She was a member of the LDS Church where she held many positions in the Sunday School, Young Womens, and Nursery. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a great football fan, enjoyed watching her boys play football in little league and high school. She was a devoted fan of the Utah Jazz. She loved working in her flower gardens, doing genealogy on her computer and many crafts. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her greatest gifts to her family were her unconditional love and perfect example of a devoted mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her loving children: sons, Michael Ray, Ogden; Chris Tracy (Linda), Sandy; twins, Myron Lee (Shellene), Ogden; Byron Kay, Clinton; and twin daughters, Judy (Doug) Ganz and Jody (Mitch) Brown, both of Roy; grandsons, Lance Jensen, Tyler Jensen, Quinn Ganz, Riley Brown, granddaughters, Tori Jensen, Brandelee (Jackie) Aycock, Makinna and Ashton Jensen, Hollie Jensen, and Jessica Ganz, great-grandsons, Logan Jensen and Kaleb Aycock, brother, Merlin A. Blake was born march 7, 1951 to Dell H. and DeLoris Anderson Hill in Logan, Utah. They moved to Brigham City later that year. Blake was a Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and attended Brigham City school's graduating from Box Elder High School in 1969. He married Glenda Bisel and lived in Brigham City, Ogden, and Honeyville. Together, they had two beautiful, lively children. Blake and Glenda were later divorced. Blake married Earlene J. Ansley December 8, 1989 and they have made their home in Perry. Blake had been employed at Maddox Ranch House, Hinckley Dodge Motors, and Volvo-White Motors. He was co-owner of Hill's Fruit Stand, and co-partner of Hill Haven, LLC, in Perry, Utah. Blake grew up loving to spend time in the Utah mountains as he hunted and fished with his family and friends. He had been a long-time member of the Box Elder County Search and rescue team. His current passions in life were his farm in Perry and his animals (goats, fallow deer, P.B. Pigs, and his doggies.) He was often seen atop his new blue tractor or his four-wheeler along highway 89. Blake is preceded in death by his father, Dell Hill Hill, and his older brother, Archie Dell Hill. He is survived by his wife, Earlene. He leaves behind his son, Shane B. (Lynne) Hill, Willard, Ut; daughter, Raigon H. (Steve) Hoyt, Santaquin; stepsons Dan (Mischelle) Ansley, Roy; and Cory Ansley, Perry. Blake has three grandchildren and and 7 step-grandchildren, all who will greatly miss their grandpa. Also surviving are his mother, DeLoris Hill, Brigham City; two sisters, Holly H. (Tharon) Bell and Rose (Greg) Walters, both of Brigham City. Blake's wish of cremation is being honored. The family will pay their last respects at a private gathering. "TOGEHER FOREVER" J. Lloyd Webb BRIGHAM CITY - J. Lloyd Webb, 79, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2003, at his daughter's home in Brigham City. He was born on March 9, 1924, in Ogden, Utah, a son of Christie Hansen and Mark E. Nielson Sr. Lloyd entered the U.S. Navy on April 9, 1943 and served in the South Pacific with valor and honor. He was honorably discharged on February 27, 1946. He married Donna Mae Nyland on January 7, 1946, in San Francisco, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Lloyd managed the Main in Smithfield and the Roxy in Brigham City where he was the owner and operator. He retired and closed the theater in 1980. He loved gardening, woodworking and bird watching. He loved to watch the bald eagles. He was an avid coin collector and loved to fish, especially up at Tony's Grove. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He belonged to the Brigham City Sixteenth Ward, where he had served as a home teacher, secretary of the High Priest Quorum and the coordinator for the magazine drive. Surviving are his son, Lloyd Bruce (Debbie) Webb of Layton; three daughters: Marsha (Dale) Nelson of Cedar City; Donna Elaine Webb of Harrisville; Lori Jean (Michael) Russell of Brigham City; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; one brother, Mark E. (Myrna) Nielson Jr. of South Ogden. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Donna; one granddaughter, Ashley; and one grandson, Gary. Henry BRIGHAM CITY - Guy Vernon Henry, 92, died peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2003, with family present at Pioneer Care Center. He was born October 13, 1910, in Dibol, Texas, to John William and Oda Mae Faulkenbury Henry. He moved to Wells, Nevada in 1940 where he met and married Madge Toombs. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. Madge died October 25, 2001. They lived in Ogden where Guy worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. They moved to Corinne in 1964 when they sold their property for the construction of I-15. While working for the railroad, he also owned and ran a farm. He raised sheep, and was one of the organizers for a lamb pool and a wool pool in Box Elder County. He also raised a few cattle, horses and chickens throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Madge, one grandson, Steven, one sister, Lena, and four brothers, Elton, Garnel, Clayton, and Douglas. Surviving are his children; Barbara H. (Louis) Sorensen, Kingman, AZ, Faye H. Petersen, Robert G. (Loreen) Henry, both of Brigham City, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Zelma Jean Nygren of Wichita, KS. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31, at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah. He was born on November 29, 1906, in Virden, New Mexico, a son of James Balus and Margaret Merrill Hendricks. Bace married Blanche Cole on November 26, 1930, in Burley, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She preceded Bace in death on May 7, 1974. Bace owned and operated a dry farm from 1935 to 1972 in Promontory, Utah. Bace moved to New Mexico in 1975, where he met and married Ruby LeNoir on February 13, 1976 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was well known as a water dowser and well driller, retiring at 90 years old. Surviving is his wife, Ruby of Santa Fe, New Mexico; two sons, Glendon (Pat) of Brigham City and Lowell (Jean) of New Harmony, Utah; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are two-step children, Ed Frei and Jeri Lou Frei. He was preceded in death by one son, Daryl; one daughter, Marilyn; granddaughter, Noel and two brothers. Katie W. Frazier BRIGHAM CITY - Katie Waldron Frazier, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at the Brigham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on August 16, 1919, in Samaria, Idaho, a daughter of Levi Glispy and Sarah Elisa Thomas Waldron. She married William W. Evans in 1937, in Malad, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1978. She then married James D. Frazier on November 20, 1980, in Brigham City, Utah. Katie worked at the Woolen Coat Factory and also as an aide at Pioneer Care Center. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Surviving is her husband, James D. Frazier of Brigham City and one grandson, William J. Evans of Pocatello, Idaho; one sister, Merle McKissick of Bay City, Texas; one brother, C.T. Waldron of South Ogden. She was preceded in death by her son, William Ronald Evans. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 28, at the Gillies-Petersen Funeral Chapel, Brigham City. Dalys Colby Sorensen Dalys Colby Sorensen, son of Drew and Nicole Sorensen, passed away July 31, 2003 at the Ogden Regional Medical Center, due to Medical complications. Dalys spent a short time here on earth with his loved ones and brought much joy for that short time. Dalys returned to his Heavenly Father to complete his mission there. Dalys is survived by his parents; Drew and Nicole, Sister; McKenzie Sorensen. His grandparents are Bart and Cindy Sorensen of Howell and Lynn and Jackie Barker of Bear River City.
