She led a full life and touched the hearts of many. She was very strong willed and accomplished much in her lifetime. She married Arlin J. Poulsen on September 3, 1960, and together they made a home for themselves and their children. Her happiest times were spent with her loved ones sharing and giving of herself. She loved to cook and have people come into her home. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, working in her garden and feeding the birds that gathered in her backyard. She worked hard inside and outside of her home throughout her life, serving many. She is survived by her husband, Arlin J. Poulsen; daughter, Mildred Dodd Lee (Dale) of Garland, UT; son, Gene Edward Dodd of Texas; daughter, Ruby Dodd Spencer (Shannon) of Brigham City, UT; daughter, Brenda Reno Hume of Brigham City, UT; daughter, Gracie Renea Carter Fortier (Rodger) of Brigham City, UT; and son, Alvino Joseph Florez of Salt Lake City, UT. Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers. Gracie is preceded in death by her oldest son, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers and one sister. He was born on December 27, 1949, in Ogden, Utah, a son of Eugene Bingham and Freda Petersen Oyler. Harold served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving is one daughter, Tori Oyler of Texas; his mother, Freda of Perry; one brother, Lynn (Betty) Oyler of St. George; four sisters, Jeannie Godfrey of Brigham City; Dorothy Priest of Montgomery, Alabama; Ranae Oyler of Perry; Diane Waters of Kanab, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, daughter and one brother. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 3, at Gillies-Petersen Funeral Chapel in Brigham City. Maria Josefina Ląpez de Ju rez Born November 16, 1930 in San Marcos, Guatemala Died Thursday, October 30, 2003 in Provo, UT "Mama Jose" was the daughter of Marco Alberto Ląpez and Tomasa Dolores Casta€on. She was the only daughter among 11 brothers: Vicente, Manuel, Alberto, Hilario, Mariano, Rogelio, Miguel, Clemente, Alejandro and Amado. She was married to Moises Ju rez. She was the mother of 8 children: Yury de Mu€oz, Mario Sigenza, Alberto Sigenza, Jorge Ju rez, Omar Ju rez, Ileana Schreiber, Guiny Novac and Jairo Ju rez. She had 34 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her life was an adventure storybook, which she shared with her family. Her life was never easy as the only girl taking care of her 11 brothers. She was smart, caring and ingenious and became a teacher. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully all her life. Mildred Alba Bonnell BRIGHAM CITY-Mildred Alba Bonnell, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at the home of her son in Brigham City. She was born on February 19, 1918, in Price, Carbon, Utah, a daughter of George Washington and Grace Woolsey Waterman. Mildred married Dayton L. Kelly on October 17, 1936, in Price, Utah. They were later divorced. She then married James G. Bonnell Jr. on January 3, 1953 in Littleton, Colorado. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1983. She was a member of the LDS Church. Mildred enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, knitting, fishing at Strawberry Reservoir, playing cards with her friends. She is survived by two sons, George D. (Joan) Kelly and Gary E. Kelly; one special daughter-in-law, Teresa Sackett all of Brigham City; nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; three sisters, Alice (Ray) Jensen, Price, UT; Barbara (Sam) Hunt, Winnemucca, NV; Maxine (Henry) Mills, Kamloops, BC, Canada. Frank B. Totter CORINNE Frank B. Totter, 48, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003. He was born on December 9, 1954, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a son of Henry G. Totter and Peggy Sue Dixon. Frank graduated from DelNorte High School in 1972 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He served in the Air Force from 1972 to 1978. While serving in Korea, he met and married Nam Sun, together they had a son, Ron. They later divorced. Frank married Edna Ross July 7,1987. He was a member of the Corinne First Ward. Frank owned and operated Totters Outdoor Maintenance. He was well known for his tree climbing and trimming skills. Frank enjoyed being in the trees. He was preceded in death by his mother. A funeral service was held Saturday, November 8, at the Pismo Beach Ward of the LDS church in Arroyo Grande, California. Interment took place on Monday, November 10, at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Covina Hills, California. Jean was born December 12, 1920, in Pleasant View, Utah, to Susan May Jensen Chamberlain and Henry E. Chamberlain. She was the youngest of six children, her siblings being Virginia, Genevieve, Vera, Vance and Roma. She attended Weber High in Ogden, Utah and married Rodney Carlos Schow on March 6, 1939. Their first two children were Roger and Susan, born in Ogden. The family moved to Southern California in 1946, where their children Sandra, Maurine and Melinda were born. Jean and her family resided in Highland Park until 1964, when they moved to La Puente. Jean continued her education at night school through 1967, completing her degree. She and her family returned to Brigham City, in 1970, purchasing the old family homestead. Jean worked at Thiokol to support her family, as Rodney was debilitated by a severe stroke. Jean baked and decorated cakes as a source of extra income for the family. Jean and her family moved to Orange County, California in 196, and her husband Rodney passed away in May of 1977. Jean lived in retirement in Carson City, Nevada from 1979 to 2001. She then resided with her son Roger in Las Vegas for one year. She spent the last year of her life at Atascadero Christian Home, near her daughters Maurine and Susan. She shared many happy moments there with her family and new friends. Her best friends at the home, Frank, Rachael, Veronica and Anna will miss her. Jean loved writing poetry, crocheting, gardening, reading, doing puzzles and cooking. She was deeply loved by everyone who knew her well. She was a great source of joy and love to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They will all miss her so very much. Jean is survived by her children; grandchildren: Laureen, Paul, Joseph, Franklin, Erica, Noela, Marie, Megan and Vanessa; and 13 great grandchildren. Jacqueline Huchel TYLER, TX - A memorial service for Jacqueline Meador Huchel was held October 27, at the Chapel of Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler, TX with the Rev. Dr. Michael D. Jackie was born in St. Joseph, Mo., on May 10, 1918, to Lillian and Arthur Meador and entered the kingdom of God on October 25, 2003. A devoted wife and mother, and beloved grandmother, her family was the joy and centerpiece of her life. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Paul E. Huchel (507 Buckingham Place, Tyler, TX 75701); three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Chip Billups of Artesia, Miss., Barbara and Jim Clifton of Waco, TX, and Paula and Trey Yarbrough of Tyler, TX; and five grandchildren, Cameron Billups of Lexington, Va., Reiley Clifton of Dallas, Pippin Clifton of Waco, and Ty and Hallie Yarbrough of Tyler. Survivors also include Claire and Dean Huchel of Hollywood, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. Jackie and Paul met and fell in love in St. Louis, Mo., and were married at the Little Church Around the Corner Episcopal Church in New York city, N.Y., on June 17, 1945. After being stationed for a short period in Japan during the Allied occupation, they moved to Tyler in 1955, which became their permanent home. A woman of quiet but strong and abiding faith, Jackie was a lifelong member of Marvin United Methodist Church and the Chapel Class. Throughout her life, she was a tireless volunteer in numerous community services, and was loved and respected by all those who knew her. The family wishes to pay special tribute to Nana's physicians, Dr. Royal Becker, Dr. Steve Keuer and Dr. Fagg Sanford, her nurses and her caregiver, Martha Chacon and Ruth Neives, who gave her such extraordinary care and love during the final days of her life on earth. Reno George Gibbons BRIGHAM CITY - Reno George Gibbons, 85, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2003, at Heritage Park Care Center in Roy, Utah. He was born February 1, 1918, in Oakley, Utah, a son of Ray W. and Mildred Jane Wilde Gibbons. Reno married Evelyn Smith on March 18, 1937, in Cache Valley. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on April 14, 1937. She preceded him in death on October 3, 1979. He later married Lucille Newbold and they later divorced. He owned and operated farms in Marion and Tremonton. He also was employed by Thiokol and retired from there. Reno loved fishing, camping, hunting and the outdoors. Surviving are four sons: Ray (Alice) Gibbons, Riverdale; Don (Sally) Gibbons, Bear River City; Jay (Marilyn) Gibbons, Middleton, Idaho; Ken (Debbie) Gibbons, Perry; one step daughter, Trina (Warren) McBride of Hyrum; 20 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one sister, Melva Page, Francis, UT. You may email condolences to the family at www.gilliespetersen.com Teri Rae Hatch VALLEJO, CA - Teri Rae Wilde Hatch, 61 years old, left this world to join her mother in Heaven and Valhalla, Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Sutter Solano Medical Center, in Vallejo, California, of cancer. Teri was born on July 15, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to John and Twilite Wilde and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, until her father's passing. She spent most of her childhood years in Brigham City, Utah, graduating from Box Elder High School in 1960. While married to Marvin Hatch, Teri moved to California, where she remained until her passing. Teri was a bookkeeper for Vera Minkner, of Vera's Valoma of Crockett, and the Redwood Inn, as well as a bookkeeper and property manager for Malcolm Tipp in Vallejo, CA, and a valued member and employee of the Moose Lodge in Vallejo. She enjoyed reading, cooking, researching the Internet and playing with her cat, Angel. Teri made compassionate donations to many different organizations. Teri was a member of the Methodist Church, Women of the Moose and a former member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Teri, a loving sister, and wonderful friend will be fondly remembered for her dry, humorous wit. Teri was preceded in death by her parents, John and Twilite Wilde, and her step father Robert Earl Anderson. Teri is survived by her loving brother Greg Anderson, of Pendelton, OR., and many friends in Vallejo, California, as well as, Brigham City, Utah. At her request she will be cremated. Teri will be put to rest with her mother at the Brigham City Cemetery. Teri will be transported to Brigham City, Utah where services will be held on Tuesday, November 25, at 1 p.m. at Gillies Petersen Mortuary, graveside services immediately following at the Brigham City Cemetery. Sherrill Owen Huff Sherrill Owen Huff (Shell Huff), the son of Idalia Pearl Brown and Owen Huff (deceased), returned home to join his sweetheart on November 16, 2003. He was born September 23, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the second oldest of five children: Bonnie Thomas (deceased); Blaine Huff of Kanab, UT; Nolan Huff of Pocatello, ID; and Duane Huff of Logan, UT. Sherrill attended Idaho State for two years in business administration and then served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States mission. While on a mission he was part of a missionary choir that performed in several states and in many functions in Washington DC. The choir also had their own radio spot that was aired each Sunday morning. The Korean War erupted while Sherrill was on his mission. When he returned home from his mission, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan serving as an air traffic controller. On November 18, 1966, he married Eleanor Brough (deceased) in the Logan Temple. They had four children: Alayna Huff of Logan, UT; Shell Huff of Newton, UT; Daela Huff of Logan, UT; Ben Huff of Eagle Mt., UT. Sherrill worked in finance, real estate and the mortgage business for many years. He was a faithful member of his church, and a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind six grandchildren: Lauralyn, Shelby, Sarah, and Samuel Huff and Marissa and Mariel Reeves. He will be missed. The funeral will be held in Newton, UT, at the LDS chapel on Saturday, November 22. The viewing will be from 10:30 to 11:45. The service will start at noon and the graveside service will be in the Richmond, UT, cemetery following the funeral. Lucille Johnson Merrill BRIGHAM CITY Lucille Johnson Merrill, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend died November 10, 2003, of natural causes in Brigham City, Utah. She was born September 11, 1919, in Preston, Idaho, to Leslie Lorenzo and Emma Swenson Johnson. Lucille married Spencer Cecil Merrill on September 28, 1937. Together they raised three children: Spencer Kenneth Merrill, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Douglas Cecil (Andrea) Merrill, Brigham City; Jeanne Ann (Scott) Bolton, Eugene, Oregon. Lucille will be missed by her eight grandchildren: Sean, Christy, David, Mark, Julie, Matthew, Michael and Timothy, as well as her 13 great grandchildren. Lucille will be long remembered for her unique sense of humor and bringing enjoyment to those who had the opportunity of knowing her. Lucille is survived by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Ina Holden, Boise, Idaho; Sharon Hurst, San Jose, California; and Evelyn Sharp, Spokane, Washington. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com Fern Alta Thomas SNOWVILLE, UT - Fern Alta Nielson Kirkham Jensen Thomas, beloved mother, grandmother and matriarch, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 7, 2003 - one month short of her 98th birthday. Fern was the third of 11 children born to James Franklin and Josephine Johnansen Nielson. She was born in Ephraim, UT, December 14, 1905. She married Denzil W. Kirkham in the Logan Temple July 28, 1926. He passed away December 22, 1945. She married Sylvester Jensen in July, 1947. He died April 22, 1951. She then married Steven G. Thomas August 11, 1967. He died October 5, 1996. Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, quilting, sewing, gardening, dancing, and working with the public. She belonged to the Civic Club, Dance Club, and American Legion Auxiliary in Tremonton, UT. During World War II she devoted many hours of service to the patients at the Tremonton Valley Hospital. She was an excellent homemaker and a dedicated worker. She had many jobs such as, clerk and co-manager of the Gephart Store in Ephraim, UT, manager of the Gephart Hotel in Tremonton, UT, and cashier at Maddox in Perry, UT. She cared for her parents for several years before they passed away. Fern is survived by her daughter, Sally (Joe) Larkin, Snowville, UT; grandchildren: Shauna (Oleen) Godfrey, Garland, UT; Bill (Carolyn) Larkin, Snowville, UT; Bruce Larkin, Brigham City, UT; Dean (Vicki) Larkin, Malad, ID: Shelly (Dan) Nielson, Tremonton, UT; Scot (Cathy) Kirkham, Gilbert, AZ; Cheri Peden, Mesa, AZ; Lynn Kirkham, Mesa, AZ; 23 great grandchildren - six great great grandchildren; one brother, Dale (Bonnie) Nielson, Salt Lake City, UT. LeOra Petersen Baron BRIGHAM CITY - LeOra Petersen Baron passed away the morning of November 12, 2003, at the age of 75 years, from an extended illness. LeOra is survived by her husband, Rex Baron; her three sons: Clark of Provo, Utah, Mark of Fredonia, Arizona; and Roger of Brigham City; brother, Verl Petersen, sister, Elvera Seeley (Tooele), and brother, Fred Lowell Petersen (Bountiful). She was born June 4, 1928, in Penrose, Utah, the daughter of Fred L. and Olive Petersen. She graduated from Box Elder High School and Seminary. She was involved as co-editor of "The Bee", an officer in the B'Ettes and was an actress in the school theatrical production. She attended the Utah Agricultural College (USU) for one year. She was married to Rex Baron on February 20, 1948, and sealed in the Logan LDS Temple on November 1, 1962. She worked as an operator for the phone company during WWII. LeOra was active in community and religious affairs. She was a member of the Civic Club and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many ward and stake positions in the Relief Society, Scouts, and the Primary, including Relief Society President of the Brigham City First Ward. She and her husband Rex also served as Temple Workers in the Ogden, Utah, LDS Temple and as Stake Missionaries. She enjoyed music and played the violin, the piano and organ. In later years, she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Rex would drive throughout the western states in their motor home visiting them. LeOra will be greatly missed by her posterity. GEORGE, UT - Commander Thomas Ross, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbor and friend, age 83, passed away November 20, 2003, of Alzheimer's disease. He was born May 31, 1920, in Brigham City, UT. He was the son of John Gibbs Wheatley and Rosa May Boothe and the youngest of four children: Othello, John, May and Preston. Ross was raised in Honeyville, Utah. He attended Utah State Agricultural College and graduated with honors in 1950 with a B.S. degree. Ross went on to obtain his masters degree from the University of North Carolina. He met his eternal companion Norma Richardson at a roller skating rink in Brigham City. On January 25, 1942, they were married in Pensacola, FL and later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 17, 1959. He was a proud father of four children: Thomas Ross Jr., John Steven, Rosemary, and David Rae. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions of leadership and responsibility including: Branch President in Lakehurst, N.J., high councilman, Kansas City Stake and 1st Councilor in the Bishopric in Brigham City 11th Ward in 1981. Something Ross treasured and considered special was that he was ordained a high priest by President Gordon B. Hinkley, a man whom he loved and sustained as a prophet of God. A large part of Ross's life, nearly 23 years, was spent serving in the United States Navy. During World War II he served valiantly as a wing commander of the U.S.S. Shangri-La. As a pilot he participated in the Bikini Atom Bomb Tests, flying as a drone through the mushroom cloud of the bomb. He is on record for being a radiation survivor. This took place in 1946. He was also a commanding officer in 1957 of a helicopter squadron in Lakehurst, N.J. and in 1953 after graduating from the U.S. Naval War college he became an Associate Professor of Naval Science at University of North Carolina. Ross's second career, after retiring from the Military in 1964, was to join E. F. Hutton's Dept. of Stocks, and specialized in Commodities. He believed in charts and lived them day, and night, composing a book called "The Spear Day By Pass". He retired after 20 years, enjoying each day he tried to out guess the market, and then on to his farm for a diversion and relaxation. Ross enjoyed people, travel, learning, geology, and philosophy. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family. The family would like to express thanks to angels organization, Bishopric, High Priests and Relief Society. Their love and care for Ross is greatly appreciated. Above all, the family would like to thank and honor his loving wife, Norma for the constant love, care and devotion she gave to him. Survived by his wife, Norma; children: Thomas Ross Jr. (Toni), Rosemary (Marty), and David and daughter-in-law, Susan, 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings and his son, John Steven. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, at 11 a.m., at the Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City, Utah. Marvin Tasso Marvin Tasso, 83, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Perry, UT, died Friday, November 21, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Marlene Bruner and husband, Gil of Albuquerque, NM; three sons, Rodney Tasso and wife, Lee of Kerns, UT, Carl Tasso of Brigham City, UT; and Gary Tasso of Perry, UT; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and cousin, Larry "Herb" Miller of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Tasso; and one brother, Elliot Tasso. He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed. Olson SALT LAKE CITY Amber Dawn Olson, daughter of Margie and Jerry Starsiak and Dean and Rhonda Olson returned home to her father in heaven on November 20, 2003. Amber was born in Eugene, Oregon, on February 7, 1975. She grew up in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School where she was very involved in student government, sports and cheerleading. She attended Weber State University and the University of Utah. She recently returned to the University of Utah to finish her business degree. She leaves behind her parents; sisters, April Olson Simkins (Dave) and Ashlee; her brother, Aaron; grandparents Keith and Helyn Boyer and her soul mate, Dave Robinson. He was beloved husband of Anna M. Stiver (nee Squire); dear father of Dallas Fred (Sue) Stiver II and Jeff Stiver; loving grandfather of Kristine L. Barker, Tamara Brailsford, Cameron B. Stiver, Mitzi Thompson, Coleman Patchree, Sakuna and Dallas F. Stiver III; our dear great grandfather of 10, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend. Mr. Stiver was born on April 20, 1907, in Tuscola, IL, the son of Grace Evelyn and Fred Brooke Stiver. The Stivers moved from Missouri to Brigham City in 1962. Mr. Stiver worked for Thiokol as a safety engineer and then after retirement he was the first Box Elder County Director of Aging Services. Mr. Stiver was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church. He helped found and then served as chairman of Acts VI Soup Kitchen. He also served as chairman of the InterAgency Council at the time the Blue Goose was implemented. Dallas and Anna moved back to Missouri in the early 1990s. Funeral services were held at Kutis Affton Chapel on Saturday, November 22. Interment at Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Cemetery in Desloge, MO. Mr. Stiver was a 50 year member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge. Russell Tingey Johnson Russell Tingey Johnson passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2003. He was born in Brigham City, Utah, on October 3, 1919, to George L. and Loa Tingey Johnson. He attended local schools there, graduating from Box Elder High School. His academic degrees include Bachelor of Science in Soils and Agronomy and a Minor in Chemistry from Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University). He received both a Masters and a Ph.D. in Agronomy and Plant Genetics with a Minor in Plant Pathology from the University of Minnesota. Interspersed among this academic training was employment by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, owning and operating a hybrid seed corn company, and a tour of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific and China, with the rank of Captain. Russ was employed by Spreckels Sugar Company as a Plant Breeder, then Director of Agriculture and Research, and Vice President. After taking early retirement he taught "Agribusiness Production Management" in the graduate school of business Administration at the University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, California. Russ was a member of the American Society of Sugar Beet Technologists, and served on its advisory council, Board of Directors, General Program Chairman, and was a president and an Honorary Lifetime Member. Russ was a member of the Board of Directors of the Beet Sugar Development Foundation and the West Coast Beet Seed Company, and served as President of both organizations. He was a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the International Sugar Research Foundation and the American Society of Agronomy. He completed a three year appointment to the Policy Advisory Committee of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California at Davis, and Utah State University. Russ was a consultant to the Rockefeller Foundation in developing plans to collect, maintain and utilize the world's genetic resources of the major food crops; and was a representative to the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization in Rome, Italy. He was editor of the book "Advances in Sugar Beet Production: Principles and Practices" (Iowa State University Press, 1972). He also wrote a fifty year history of the West Coast Beet Seed Company. Russ married Louise Haynie in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1946, and their children are Tamara, Scott (Meg), Rand (Lynn), Brett (Lygia); 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Eueda, and a brother, Lynn. He is survived by a sister, Doris Ann (Shirl) Bishop. Russ served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California Stakes, and was Bishop of the Burlingame, CA Ward. Russ was a consultant to the LDS Church Farm Management Company for 14 years, and a Provo Temple Ordinance Worker. He and Louise served a two year mission in Hawaii, and a service mission to help transform the 1872 Historic Sun Ranch in Wyoming into the Mormon Handcart Historic Site at Martin's Cove, where he was the first Visitors Center Director. Funeral services were held Monday, November 24, in the Oak Hills 6th Ward LDS Chapel (Hillside Chapel), Provo. Interment, East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo.
