Cynthia was born to Jerry R. and LaRee Hunsaker Snow on March 7, 1958, in Monrovia, CA. She lived her early life in La Puente, CA and graduated from Bassett High in 1976. Cynthia met her husband Bill Jones in May of 1982 and they were married on May 28, 1983, at the home of her parents. Cynthia and Bill have three children: Susan, Crystal, Jerry and seven grandchildren. Cynthia is survived by her husband, William N. Jones, Jr., her parents, Jerry and LaRee Snow, one brother, Brian (Marlene) Snow, three sisters, Janene Snow, Kim Fletcher, Kathleen Snow; and many nieces and nephews. Cynthia and Bill made many spur of the moments trips, during one of those trips she fell in love with the Oregon Coast and when Bill retired in 1993 they moved there. She enjoyed walking on the beaches looking for agates, seashells and glass floats. She especially enjoyed spontaneous drives to nowhere just to get away from home for a few hour to enjoy time with her husband, children, grandchildren and friends. Cynthia was very close to all of her family and loved them all very much. She belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waldport Branch. Cynthia will be missed and loved by all the people whose lives she touched. Funeral services will be Friday, February 6, at 11 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel, 205 South 100 East, Brigham City. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com DOROTHY LARSEN HUNSAKER HONEYVILLE Dorothy Larsen Hunsaker, 94, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2004, at the Brigham City Hospital. Dorothy was born on November 22, 1909, in Newton, Utah a daughter of Lorenzo Christian and Altena Ericksen Larsen. She married Melvin Isaac Hunsaker on December 19, 1929, in Salt Lake City, UT. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on February 14, 1952. He died on March 6, 1982. Dorothy later married Maynard Clark on March 7, 1987, in Honeyville. He died on November 28, 1990. She served in leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stake and Ward auxiliaries. Dorothy had a special love for flowers, and spent many hours tenderly carrying for her flowers and yard, receiving a yard of the month award. She was a member of the Utah Daughters of Pioneers. Surviving are her children: Dean (Joanne) Ahlmer, Ogden, UT; Max (Arlene) Hunsaker, Ogden, UT; Verlo (LeAnne) Hunsaker, Willard, UT; 14 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, three sisters, one grandson, one granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, at noon at the Honeyville Second Ward Chapel, 2620 West 6980 North, Honeyville. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com DARLENE GROVER WHITAKER GARDNERVILLE, NV - Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, after a long courageous fight with cancer, returned to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 8, 2004. She was born Dec. 17, 1925, in East Garland, Utah. She graduated from Bear River High School and attended Utah State University. She and her husband, Lowell, were married in the Logan LDS Temple December 30, 1946. During his military career they lived in many different places and retired in Santa Anna, CA. In recent years she made her home in Gardnerville, Nevada near her only son, Jeffery L. Whitaker. During her life she held many responsible positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is survived by her son, Jeffery L. Whitaker and his wife, Marla, of Gardnerville, Nevada; three granddaughters: Jessie, Sara and Thea and one grandson, Jared; one half brother, Darold Seager; four brothers: Rolland (Emily) Grover of Roosevelt, Utah, Wesley (Bonnie) Grover, Palmer Alaska; Leon (Jackie) Grover, Washington, Utah; Craig (Una) Grover, Fielding, Utah; one sister, Karen (Gary) Huckaby of Farr West, Utah; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother, Clifton (Vera) Grover and one sister, Jean (Theron) Grover Peterson. A memorial service will be held at her ward in Gardnerville, Nevada on Wednesday, February 11, followed by a viewing Saturday, February 14, at Rogers Taylor Funeral Home located at 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, Utah from 10-11 am. DONALD YOSHIKAZU TAZOI BRIGHAM CITY - Donald Yoshikazu Tazoi, 55, died tragically in an industrial accident on Wednesday, February 4, 2004. Don was born December 10, 1948 to Jim Y. and Kimiko Yagi Tazoi. He attended Garland Elementary and in 1967 he graduated from Bear River High School where he participated in baseball, football and track. He had a black belt in Judo. After graduating he attended Utah State University. Don loved to travel and go and "hang out" with his close friends. He also spent endless hours on the golf course. He married Sally Grobe, they later divorced. He married Anne Nisogi Meyer whom he also later divorced. Don had a big heart and was loved and respected by many people and will be greatly missed by all. Don is survived by his parents; one brother, Edwin J. Tazoi of Salt Lake City; his two beloved daughters, Katie Akiko (Tazoi) and Doug Bartlett of Boston, Massachusetts and Emilee Haruko (Tazoi) and Justin Iverson of Brigham City; his best pal and grandson, Hunter Iverson of Brigham City and his other grandson, Michael Morgan of Orem; his two nephews, JD and Jordan Tazoi of Sandy, and his "significant other", Cynthia K. Comeau. He is also survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Douglas Tazoi. Condolences may be expressed at www.rogersandtaylor.com. FRED KANAME OKIMURA BRIGHAM CITY Fred left us on February 7, 2004, to be reunited with his beloved wife, Doris. He passed away peacefully at the Sunshine Terrace Foundation in Logan, Utah at the age of 88. He was born on May 18, 1915, in Walnut Grove, California, and was the youngest child of Takaichi and Haruno Nagao Okimura. He was educated in Hiroshima Japan and came back to California as a young adult. Fred met and married Doris Hisako Fujikawa in 1941 at Los Angeles, California. With the outbreak of World War II soon after their marriage, they were interned at the Jerome, Arkansas, Relocation Center in 1942 until July of 1945. Fred, Doris and baby daughter, Margie Reiko moved to Brigham City, Utah, where they stayed permanently. Fred was employed at Brigham Laundry and Model Laundry in Ogden, Utah, then later as a grounds supervisor for the County of Box Elder. He later retired, enjoying his many hobbies and collections. He is survived by his daughter Margie Reiko, son-in-law, Noboru Kito, three grandchildren: Jeffrey Kito, Stephen Kito and Melanie Kito of San Diego, California, and many nieces and nephews in Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, parents, two sisters and one brother. We, the family, would like to thank all the staff at Logan Regional Hospital, Sunshine Terrace Foundation and Dr. Ryan Larsen in Logan for the care and compassion they showed Fred and to us. We would also like to thank all of his neighbors and friends in Brigham City for their kindness and caring for Fred. She was born on December 11, 1931, in Roosevelt, Utah, a daughter of Marvin LeRoy and Thelma Lublin Sparks. Sherlene married J. Clair Mordue on June 25, 1951, in Manti, Utah. She worked in the Box Elder County Assessor's office for over 20 years. Sherlene enjoyed photography, sewing, sketching, travel, writing her family history and backpacking. Surviving is her husband, J. Clair of Brigham City; two sons, John C. Mordue and his wife, Jennie of New York, New York; Jay R. Mordue and his wife, Sylvia of Ogden; one daughter, MarvaLe (Lee) McDaniel and her husband, Kenny of Washington, D.C.; two grandsons, Jay and Erik McDaniel; one brother, Marvin Sparks and one sister, Karen Sparks. She was preceded in death by her parents, two granddaughters, Krista Ann McDaniel and Elizabeth Mordue. You may email condolences to the family at www.gilliespetersen.com. VODIS MAE MCCRARY LARSEN "May" was born in Portage, Utah, on March 20, 1914, to Robert Milton and Pearl Mae Allen. She was the oldest of seven children. She attended schools in Portage and Tremonton, Utah, where she graduated from Bear River High School. She attended Excelsior Beauty School in Ogden and graduated as a beautician. She worked several years in Ogden as a beautician before she met Donald Gardner Larsen. They were married on July 20, 1946, in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Reno until 1952 when they moved to Billings, Montana. In 1966 they moved to Brigham City, Utah. In 1999, May moved to Denver, Colorado. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She was an accomplished seamstress and did beautiful handwork. She loved to work on Family History and Genealogy. Her family always came first. She was a dedicated mother, an attentive daughter and loving sister. She loved her friends, neighbors and fellow ward members in Brigham City who cherished her sweet and loving spirit. May passed away in Denver, Colorado on February 3, 2004. May was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and her parents. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Jean (Joseph) Armstrong and Janice Renae (Michael) Matheson; five grandchildren: Brooke, Ryan and Clint Armstrong, Skyler and Jace Matheson. She is survived by two brothers, Don C. McCrary and Boyd McCrary, and one sister, Beverly Timmons. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com HAZEL (HANSEN) KOSDERKA Retired Businesswoman Dec. 27, 1919 - Feb. 11, 2004 MONTROSE, CO - Hazel (Hansen) Kosderka, age 84, died of natural causes Wednesday morning, February 11, 2004, in the San Juan Living Center in Montrose. Mom spent her last few hours with several members of her immediate family, singing hymns and her favorite music. Mom was born on December 27, 1919, in Brigham City, Utah, to Warren C. Hansen and Sarah Jessie (Tingey) Hansen. After Mom's early childhood in Utah, she raised her family in Telluride, Colo., where she was well known as a waitress, cook and manager of the Sheridan Hotel, Opera House and Caf‚. Mom also owned and operated a sporting goods and gas station in Eagle, Colo., and two cafes in Salida, Colo. Two husbands: Bud Courtney, of Columbus, Ohio, and Fred Reece, of Telluride, Colo., preceded her in death. A third former husband, Albert Kosderka, lives in North Carolina. Mom is survived by two sisters: Maurine McMurtrey, of Brigham City, Utah, and Loreda Bosley, of Clearfield, Utah. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Neva Hansen, Viola Lowery, Helen Jorgensen, Irene Porter; one brother, James Hansen, all of Brigham City, Utah; one great grandson, Brandon; and one great great grandson, Chase. Four children were born to Mom, all living in Colorado: Marie (Jim) Penasa, of Montrose; Dave (Carol) Courtney, of Cedaredge; Dennis (Chris) Reece, of Ouray; and Neva (George) Taylor, of Salida. Mom leaves 12 living grandchildren, 13 living great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Mom had a large extended family of nieces and nephews, mostly all living in Utah. Hazel's family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful staff at San Juan Living Center for the warm and loving care provided to Mom over the past 18 months. A memorial service was observed on Saturday, February 14, at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose. The service concluded at the chapel. MASAYUKI KANO BRIGHAM CITY- Masayuki Kano, 88, died Sunday, February 15, 2004, at his home. He was born January 31, 1916, in Auburn, Washington, a son of Kenjiro and Matsue Yamanaka Kano. Mas spent much of his youth in Japan attending school. He returned to the United States at the age of fourteen, continued his education and later ran the family farm after his father's death. His family was re-located to an internment camp in 1942, first to Tule Lake, CA, and then to Topaz, UT, a year later. Mas married Shizue Cecile Nisogi on November 29, 1946, in Salt Lake City and worked various jobs throughout his career and in 1966 was employed by the Defense Depot in Ogden. He retired in 1986 after suffering a heart attack. Mas was an active Buddhist and a member of the Honeyville Buddhist Temple. He enjoyed the company of family and friends and spending time doing yard work. He also enjoyed watching baseball and going to Wendover. Surviving are four sons: Ronald of Clovis, CA; David (Wendy) of Brigham City; Louie of West Valley City, UT; Lawrence of Fruit Heights, UT; one daughter, Karen of Layton, UT; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; four brothers: Hiroyuki Kano Brigham City; Shigeo Kano, Osamu Kano, both of Seattle, WA; John Kano, Placentia, CA, and one sister, Hisako Minaga of Salt Lake City. Billy and Marilyn were married for 37 years and were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1952 and are survived by seven children: Richard Dale Jensen, Cheri Lynne Gatrell, Kelly Niel Jensen, Leland Kent Jensen, Marianne Jensen Davis, Nancy Suzanne Sharp and Billy McKay Jensen. He is also survived by a sister, Jean Koenig. Billy and Marilyn are survived by 17 grandchildren: Deborah, Elizabeth, Sharon, Caleb, Amanda, Daniel, Joshua, KelliAnn, Misa, Yuki, Stephanie, Tabitha, Zachary, William, Rebecca, Sarah and JoAnna; four great grandchildren: Miles, Camron, Adalynne and Jaimon. Preceded in death by sister, Lorey Tyner; brother, Mondell Jensen and granddaughter, Angela Jensen. After Marilyn's death, Billy married Carol Johnson. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and have been married for the past 14 years. Billy is also survived by Carol's children: Ramon Campbell, Nancy Hall, Cheryl Ann Campbell, Peggy Brown and Mary Dalton. Additionally there are 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Carol's son, Richard Campbell and granddaughter, Marcia Watkins preceded him in death. Carol has been by his side during his worsening affliction with Parkinson's disease. For the love and companionship she provided our father, we are eternally grateful. Billy served in both the Army and Air Force, having been awarded a silver star, a bronze star and three purple hearts for extraordinarily acts of bravery during the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force with an honorable discharge after more than 20 years of service. Billy served an additional 20 years as a law enforcement officer in Brigham City, Utah and has served in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Branch President, a Church Service Mission in Keflavik, Iceland, and many years in Scouting leadership positions. He held his private pilot's license and was the Commander of the Golden Spike Squadron Civil Air Patrol for 10 years. He earned a B.A. degree from Weber State College while rearing his family. Billy and Marilyn were foster parents for abused and neglected infants and children for many years. BLANCE WOODWARD HARRIS April 8, 1910 February 18, 2004 BRIGHAM CITY Blanche's love of life drew us to her as she invited us to come along on her journey. She was a beacon of strength, steadfastness, faith and a mentor to all those with whom she came in contact and were touched by her loving care. She was a pied piper to the neighborhood children and her grandchildren with toys in her home and Popsicles in the fridge. She is now dancing with her husband Bill (Joseph William) whom she lovingly cared for 12 years after his stroke and eagerly meeting those she loved who've passed on before. Blanche and Bill were married in the Logan LDS Temple March 2, 1932, and they founded the Peach City Ice Cream Co. after their move to Brigham City. Blanch taught elementary school in Minersville, Utah before she was married. Ever learning she remained "the teacher" to us all. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in any capacity in which she was called. She was a teacher of youth, a member of the Stake YW Presidency, a Seminary Teacher at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City and an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple. She is survived by her three children: Robert D. (Shauna) Harris; MerLynn (Jed H.) Pitcher; Rita (Chris R.) Pella; 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; brothers: Marlow (Vella deceased) Woodward, Boyde (Margaret) Woodward; sisters: Ruth (Vernon deceased) Jamison, Leah (Keith deceased) Warnick and (Ken deceased) Meredith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill (December 27, 1977), parents, Cecil and Bertha Crandall Woodward; brother, Paul C. (Zelma) Woodward; sisters, Gladys (Darrel) Lefever and Norma Woodward. The family is grateful to Jami Runyan and her family for their gentle, loving care of our mother the past five years after her stroke. We also acknowledge the many hours of loving service rendered by Donna (niece) and Billy Reddington and their family. He was born July 23, 1934, in Brigham City to Frank and Cora Forsgren Stevens. He married Connie June Bockas on December 10, 1960, in Ogden. Bruce graduated from Bear River High School in 1952, where he received the Standard Examiner Gold Watch for starring in football, basketball, track, field, and tennis. He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in engineering in 1957. While attending Utah State he was active in the Sigma Chi fraternity and won the all-campus boxing championship in the 145-pound class. As a USAC cadet at Utah State he qualified as an expert rifleman and was later called to active duty in Korea where he received the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bruce retired from Thiokol after more than 33 years of service. His hobbies were golfing, bowling, and fishing; he enjoyed his trips to Tremonton to visit his mother, spending time with friends, and going to his grandchildren's activities. He was a member of the Brigham City Golf and Country Club, Brigham City Eagles, and Brigham City Elks. Surviving are his wife, Connie; one son and one daughter, Scott (Irlanda) Stevens, Brigham City; Shelley (Tom) Walker, Brigham City; and five grandchildren, Trent, Ally, Jenna, Karly, and Casey. Also surviving are his mother, Cora Stevens, Tremonton; and one sister, Carma (Don Robinson), California. He was preceded in death by his father. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held on Friday, February 27, beginning at 5 p.m., at the Brigham City Golf and Country Club, 960 East 700 South, Brigham City. Clarence was born August 2, 1940, in Waldron, Indiana, to Clarence A. and Evaline (Reynolds) Shoopman. He was a businessman in Willard, UT, owning C.S. Fruits since July of 2002. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com BRANDON JEROME OLSEN BRIGHAM CITY - Brandon Jerome Olsen, known to us all as "BJ," passed away Friday morning, February 20, 2004, while doing what he loved to do, swimming. BJ was born in Brigham City, Utah, on January 29, 1983, to Kim and Audrey Olsen. BJ's life, as short as it was, can be summarized in one word LOVE. He had a great love for people and everything around him. BJ was one who viewed life as a journey, not a destination, and he loved the journey. BJ had many friends, and he was always willing to help them when they needed it most. He had an incredible love for children, and they loved him even more. His love of children was exemplified through his service as a Primary Teacher in the Fourteenth Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a member. He will be greatly be missed by all. Volleyball and swimming were two of his favorite sports. He also really enjoyed playing games with family and friends the greatest game in his mind, of course, was Monopoly. He would try to persuade anyone he could to play, friends or family, and enjoyed it all regardless of whether he won or lost. BJ also had a great love for singing and music. BJ is survived by his parents Kim and Audrey Olsen; sisters Shandra Leigh (Sis) and Tasha Marie (Squirt); grandparents, Ross and Joan Olsen, Archie and ReNee Duerden; great grandmother, Bertha Jensen, all of Brigham City and Great-Grandmother Odetta Offret of Ogden. George was born on June 29, 1918, in Salt Lake City to Ebenezer and Catherine Mary Maddocks. He was predeceased by his mother and father, a sister, Virginia and a brother, John Ebenezer. He is survived by his wife, Frankie Vera Wilson Maddocks; his sister, Nancy Cox of Salt Lake City; son, Marvin Maddocks of Midland, Texas, daughters Lynette Gatlin of San Antonio, Texas and Cathryn Collis of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. George's early life was spent on the family dairy farm, the Rose Hill Dairy in Salt Lake County. From age ten or eleven George began milking cows and weeding acres of sugar beets. As he grew up he gained responsibility, collecting milk from other farms by the time he was sixteen, later driving a delivery route, then managing the milk processing facility. Although very difficult and strenuous work, George thrived with the pride of participating in a successful business venture. Throughout his life he talked about his experience working the dairy as the most fulfilling career experience of his life. The dairy was sold in the early fifties and George went to work as a railroad mechanic on the Duchesne water tunnel project out of Heber City. Shortly thereafter he went to work for Waterfall Construction in Ogden, then Fife Construction in Brigham City. Over his work life he became a master mechanic, particularly with diesel engines. He had an intuitive sense with all things mechanical and could fix just about anything. He was a proud, 50-year member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local #3. George and Frankie lived in Brigham City from 1955, where they were members of the Eagles Lodge. McRee, 82, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2004, at Pioneer Care Center in Brigham City, Utah. He and his twin brother were born on August 21, 1921, in Moselle, Mississippi, to Chandlier C. and Nora Boyce McRee. He served in World War II in the European Theater and was the personal secretary to General Eisenhower. In 1945 he returned home to finish his degree. He was a Pharmaceutical Representative for Scherring Corporation. He was very active in sports. His family and friends will miss him dearly. Survivors include an older sister, Helen M. Beguhl and nephew, Lou Longley of Brigham City, Utah; a brother, Franklin H. McRee of New Augusta, Mississippi and various nieces and nephews. His parents, one brother, and his twin brother preceded Francis in death. No services will be held. It was his wish to have his cremains scattered over the Ragland Hills in New Augusta, Mississippi. JOSEPH JAY CHRISTENSEN BOUNTIFUL-BRIGHAM CITY - Joseph Jay Christensen, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2004, in Bountiful. He was born on August 9, 1924, in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Joseph Alfred and Camilla Larsen Christensen. J.J. graduated from Box Elder High School and served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator in Europe during World War II and was honorably discharged. He married LaDine Knudsen on June 14, 1952, in Brigham City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1962. From this joyous union came four children: Charles K. (Chuck), Bruce Jay, Jan, and Linda. LaDine preceded him in death on April 16, 1983. He then married Donna P. Heaps on July 28, 1984. She preceded him in death in September 1999. Joseph then married Janice Eskelsen Allen on April 9, 2001, and has been his loving companion. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as a member of the Bishopric, Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group leader, but his favorite calling was being a home teacher. J.J. worked for C. H. Dredge Company until in 1970 he followed his dream and bought the farm in Perry, where he owned and operated J.J.'s Farm Market and Nursery. He also worked for Thiokol from 1977 until he retired, but continued to sell trees for several nurseries throughout the western states. Surviving are his wife, Janice of Bountiful; three children: Chuck (Jan) of Taylorsville; Bruce (Theresa) of Smithfield; Dr. Linda (John Brown) Christensen of Omaha, Nebraska; 34 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, one brother, Curtis L. (Marie) Christensen of Montana. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Gray and sister, Melba C. Richie. The children would like to express their deepest love and appreciation to two beautiful women and their families who took care of him and shared his life after our mother died. FREEMAN BYINGTON A very kind, gentle and patient man, Freeman J. Byington, 91, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2004, at his home in Logan, from causes incident to age. Freeman was born August 6, 1912, in the family farm home in Blazer, Bannock County, Idaho, the son of Ettie Sophia Smithies and Charles Norton Byington. He attended school in Blazer, Logan High School, and received a Bachelors and Masters degree in Agronomy and Plant Breeding from Utah State University. He married Doris Harper on September 17, 1937, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a kind caregiver for her until her death in 1988. He served in the European Theatre in World War II as a Corporal in Battery A, 868th Field Artillery, 65th Division in Patton's Third Army. He was the first inductee from Box Elder County. Freeman served as Box Elder County Farmers Home Administration supervisor, manager of the Box Elder County Bank, and a Management Analyst at the Defense Depot in Ogden. He served as president of the Tremonton and Brigham City Lions Clubs and the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce. He dedicated his life to service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous positions including bishoprics, high council and doing temple work in Logan and Mesa, Arizona. Freeman and Vivian Harper Hunter were married July 10, 1991, in the Logan LDS Temple. They have enjoyed loving and serving each other for the past 12 years. Freeman considered his family his greatest accomplishment and he was an avid genealogist and family history author. His favorite pastimes were gardening, raising grapes, participating in the reenactment of the driving of the Golden Spike in Promontory, his Arizona winter home, fishing, hunting, and swimming. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; brother, Earl Byington of Saratoga Springs, Utah; sister, Clista and husband Max Chidester of Kearns, Utah; daughters: Carol and husband David Johnson of Nibley, Judy and husband Fred Weindorf of Orem and son, Neal and wife Suzanne of Smithfield; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; stepsons: John L. and Renee Hunter of Scarsdale, New York; William James and Sandee Hunter of St. Anthony, Idaho; stepdaughter, Barbara and Rick Ward of Driggs, Idaho; 21 step grandchildren and 41 step great grandchildren. PETERSEN CLINTON, UTAH - Fred West Petersen, 71, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on February 28, 2004. Fred was born January 23, 1933, in Penrose, Utah, to Eva Merretta Howard and Leonard Milton Petersen, the eldest of 12 children. He spent his youth as a rancher in Penrose, UT. He graduated from Bear River High School and received his master's degree in Science Education at the University of Virginia. The remainder of his life was devoted to education in Virginia and Utah. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two faithful missions, was a ward mission leader, Stake mission leader, and served other various church positions. He married Carol Spendlove on June 18, 1952. They were later divorced. Their children are: Randy, Evan, Lorie (Kevin) Humphreys, David (Rhonda) Petersen, and Debbie (Thomas) Risk. He married Lujuana Nielson in May, 1963, and was later sealed to her in the Manti Temple. They are the parents of Kirk (Christina) Petersen, Teri (Brad) Hanson, and Leisha (Brian) Heugly, and have 19 1/3 grandchildren. Also surviving are seven brothers and two sisters: Dee (Teddee), Myrna (Louis) Merrill, Jerry (Audrey), Mark (Kathleen), Roxie (Steve) Butler, Bryce (Pauline), Nord (Nancy), Wade (Rosie), Leonard Jr. (Kathy). He was preceded in death by one son, Randy; one granddaughter, Alyx Ann and two brothers, Kent and Rod. Special thanks to VistaCare Hospice Center, especially Cammie, Charyol, Heather, Ann, Dan, Christine and all other caregivers who assisted Fred during this time. Knowlton lived, raised his family, and owned businesses in Brigham City, Utah. Knowlton was married to Virginia Smith on September 3, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and together they raised and loved six children, 31 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren. Knowlton was extremely committed to his family and faith. He loved the Lord and helped many through his private contributions. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings his entire life. Knowlton H. Brown Construction provided service and jobs to the community. He also owned Corinne Metals and Brown Trucking. Knowlton served his country in the US Air Corp during WWII. Knowlton is survived by wife, Virginia, of 57 years, six children, Tami Brown Forsgren, David Knowlton and (Lynette) Brown, Andrea Lee Brown, Debbie J. and (Que) Fullmer, Robert Hanks and (Chris) Brown, and V. Elizabeth and (Craig P.) Mitton, 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Knowlton is also survived by two sisters: Melva Brown and Evelyn and (Dean) Wood. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Christopher Lee Brown and Tammy Frost. Knowlton will be missed by his family, numerous friends and business acquaintances.
