SHELLEY HOFFMAN LOGAN - Shelley Dee Brown Hoffman, 54, of Logan, returned home to her Heavenly Father and Mother on January 13, 2004. She faced the battle of ovarian cancer with courage, dignity, and grace for over six years. She won. Shelley was born May 3, 1949. She was the oldest child of T. Dee Brown and Joyce Loveday. She had close relationships with both of her grandparents, particularly Thad and Olive Brown. Shelley always considered her grandparents as one of the greatest blessings of her life. They were a great influence in her life. She attended Logan City schools and graduated from Logan High in 1967. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Utah State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She was a member of Mortar Board National Honor Society and was on the Dean's list several times. Her art brought her wonderful joy. She participated in art shows throughout the state and was beginning to show nationally when diagnosed with cancer. Her art told of the beauty of nature and showed the beauty within her heart. She married the love of her life and her best friend Thomas Richard Hoffman on August 1, 1974. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. The first 13 years of their marriage were spent in Brigham City. She chose to be a "stay at home Mom" for their four children. This full time job was the highlight and one of the greatest joys in her life. That joy was only surmounted by the birth of her three grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Heather (Michael) Harman, Smithfield; Kate (Melissa) Hoffman, Mendon; Lannis (Val Dee) Christensen, Logan, and Scott (Emily) Hoffman, Pullman, Washington. She loved her church callings, especially primary and teaching Relief Society. She grew to dearly and sincerely love and value the relationships she had with her "sisters" in the gospel. Shelley also spent countless hours doing genealogy work and loved attending the temple. Shelley loved being a homemaker, working in her gardens, spending time with her family and friends, and taking trips with Tom. For the past few years she and Tom have taken "antique hunting" trips and as it became more difficult to leave home, their latest adventure has been bird watching! Living with a positive attitude was very important to her. She always maintained that there is value to be found and lessons to be learned within all challenges. She values and leaves behind many very, very special friendships, including a very dear Aunt, and one very dear soul mate and friend, Barbara Marie Brock McKenzie. Shelley and Barbara have been best friends for 49 years, having met in kindergarten. They were as close as any twin sisters could ever be. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wasatch Hematology/Oncology for their many years of compassionate care and concern.
