THACKER CORINNE Angela Lynn Thacker the beautiful baby daughter of Paul Thomas and Jennie Lynn Jorgensen Thacker, left this earth on July 3, 2004, to be with her Father in Heaven. She was in our lives for a very short time, but will be in our hearts forever. What greater treasure can there be in Heaven? We look forward in earnest for the time we can be together again. Petersen, 92, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, July 1, 2004, at his home in Brigham City. He was born on November 2, 1911, in Paradise, Utah, a son of Louis and Gertrude Norman Petersen. Vern served a LDS mission to Switzerland, Belgium and in France for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Emma Georgia Nelsen on June 14, 1939, in the Logan LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on February 18, 1979. Vern then married Beulah Daines on November 12, 1979, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Vern served as a Branch President in Switzerland, Kingman and Davis Dam, Arizona. He was the Bishop of the Brigham City Thirteenth Ward for nine years. He also was the Regional Music Director for Northern Utah. He had served in other various church callings. His first job out of college was as a music teacher at Ferron High School. Vern enjoyed farming in Idaho and Arizona. After farming he returned to Paris High School as the music teacher. The last 20 years he was a real estate developer and commercial building contractor with family members in Utah, Idaho, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. He loved music and playing the saxophone. He was one of the founding members and lead saxophone for the Methuselah Combo till the last few months. Surviving are his wife, Beulah of Brigham City; six children: Gary (Patty) of Texarkana, TX; Brent (Ruth) of Hurst, TX; Jim (Barbara Stucki) of Bend, OR; Chad (Anna) of Roy, UT; Michael (Sharman) of Longmont, CO; Patricia Petersen of Ogden, UT; four step children: Diane (Steven) Pond of Castle Rock, WA; Elizabeth (Brett) Merrell of Randolph, NJ; John (Nancy) Burgoyne of Medina, WA; Robert (Adrienne) Burgoyne of St. Louis, MO; 44 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; one sister, Margene Thurston of Medford, OR. Interment in the Brigham City Cemetery. You may email condolences to the family at www.gilliespetersen.com. RAY L. LILLYWHITE Ray L. Lillywhite died July 3, 2004, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born January 10, 1912, in Brigham City, Utah, son of Joseph H. and Elizabeth Stoney Lillywhite. He graduated from Box Elder High School and earned degrees from Utah State University, where he served as student body president, and American University, Washington, D.C. He married Eloise Hoopes in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on June 19, 1935. He volunteered and served in the Navy as a Fighter Director Officer in World War II where he received special recognition as the Outstanding Fighter Director in the Pacific. He also served as Commanding Officer of the Naval Reserves in Madison, Wisconsin. He held leadership positions in Church, Scouting and many Civic and Professional organizations. For over 28 years he served as Executive Director of State Retirement Systems in Utah, Wisconsin and Ohio, and for thirty years was a senior officer in the Investment Management firm of Alliance Capital Management. The national Lillywhite Award was established in honor of him to celebrate contributions by persons who have had distinguished careers in the investment management and employee benefits fields. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Hoopes Lillywhite; a son, Ray Legrand Jr.; a daughter Joanne L. Christensen; five brothers and four sisters. He is survived by five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a legacy that exemplified not only excellence but also innovation in lifelong achievements, teaching, and learning. She was born on October 28, 1916, to Oscar and Luella James Larsen in Harrisville, Utah. She was raised in Park Valley, Utah, and lived in Tremonton and Garland, Utah. She married Anthon Orin Tracy in Brigham City, on July 23, 1940. Anthon passed away on July 30, 1961. Verna held a variety of positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Primary, Sunday School, Young Adults, and was also a Relief Society Visiting Teacher. She is survived by her children: Ross (Dawnetta), Cheyenne, WY; Lowell (Ilene), Bear River City; Michael Tracy, Brent Tracy, RaNae Tracy, Vicki Ann (Bradley) Smith all of Garland; 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, and special family members Mary Ann Tracy and Donna Jean Tracy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Anthon Orin, one son LaMar and two daughters, Jean and Marcia. He died Monday July 12, 2004, at his home in Clearfield. Trent was born on March 22, 1962, in Salt Lake City, son of Robert LaVar and Loris Ferguson Hansen. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. Trent was a designer of roller coasters and loved the ride. He loved God, guns, and rock and roll. He was a problem solver and a supreme trouble shooter. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and Northern Region Director of Ted Nugent United Sportsmen of America. He loved coffee, cigars, and playing chess. He loved music, playing the guitar, and Saturday morning breakfasts with his Dad. Trent had a passion for fast cars, his family and a good practical joke. Trent was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife Carol Ann; daughters, Kali Hansen, Sunshine Roundy, and son, James Roundy; also by his parents, two sisters Laurie Moore, Lisa (Grant) Lloyd, brother, Timothy (Jennifer) Hansen; four nieces and three nephews whom he loved dearly. He was born on February 9, 2001, to Dennis Blaine and Natalie Hunsaker Doutre. Brayden loved to play with his trains and his dinosaurs. He loved to play "make believe" and played the role of the dragon often. Brayden loved to be outside and especially loved to help his father. Brayden made friends everywhere he went and loved life and being with his many cousins. Brayden was the joy and light of his parents' life. He will be greatly missed. JAMES CRAIG VALENTINE 1942 - 2004 Surrounded by loved ones, James Craig Valentine passed away peacefully Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Provo, Utah. He was born to loving parents, James Woodland and Eva Johnson Valentine in Brigham City, Utah on August 25, 1942. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1960 and attended both Utah State University and Brigham Young University. He proudly served in the East Central States Mission (1961~1963) for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was at BYU that he met his life-long partner, Victoria Baker Valentine, marrying her in the Logan Temple on a gorgeous spring day, May 27, 1966. Craig was an inventive creator of many small businesses throughout his life, always jumping at the opportunity to explore another entrepreneurial adventure. He was a General Manager for nearly 15 years at Hardy Enterprises, overseeing gas stations, convenience stores and motels throughout the region. Outside of business, his intellectual pursuits were really his true passion. He was a scholar of history, religion and ancient studies, never missing a chance to discuss and argue the finer points of those pursuits. Most of all he will be remembered as a purely selfless person, always willing to lend an extra hand to those in need; as a giant man with the softest, gentlest heart; and as a genuine soul truly unmatched here on earth. He will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Our loving father, friend and husband is survived by his loving wife, Victoria Baker Valentine; seven devoted children: James Brandon Valentine, Kamela Sue Littlesalt, Heather Leigh Rogers, Robyn Elizabeth Valentine, Liberty Ann Valentine, Seth Benson Valentine, and Shem David Valentine; seven beautiful grandchildren; and brother, Jerry Valentine and Dallas Valentine. VELLA A. WOODS BRIGHAM CITY Vella Ann Daley Woods, was born on June 10, 1938, in Malad, Idaho, to Barbara Hickman Smith and Lot Smith. Vella was the first of three children to that union, followed by Philip then Barbara. When her mother married Elden Daley in 1945, she began a new life in California. She was later adopted by her dad, Elden Daley. Vella attended school in Stone, Idaho, then Compton, California. She married Charles Everett Woods December 15, 1956, in Bellflower, CA. They were blessed with four girls: Kathy Ann (Barry) Anderson, Downey, ID; Connie L. (Lynn) Anderson, Snowville, UT; Sheryl Jean (Kent) Taylor, Logan, UT; and Nadene Johnson (Bill Kaufman), Whitehall, MT. Everett passed away in 1972. Vella brought her girls back to Utah that year. In her early years she worked for the telephone company and later when her children were old enough she worked for Bountiful Nursing Home. Because of her health problems, Vella was very active in the Brigham City House, the family would like to thank those many friends who have stood by her for all these years. Vella was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a caring daughter, loving sister, giving mother and grandmother, favorite aunt and a good friend to many. She loved to be with her family and friends. She loved to go to dances, cook, paint and draw. Vella is survived by her four daughters: Kathy, Connie, Sheryl and Nadene; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; her brother, Phillip H. (Trudy) Daley, AZ; sister, Barbara Jones, Bountiful, UT; and her good friend Steve Hess. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother-in-law, Jim Jones. She was born on July 10, 1955, in Tremonton, Utah, a daughter of Wendell and Louise Turley Hess. She grew up in Garland and Kaysville, Utah. She graduated from Davis High School. She married Don Collett on July 11, 1975. They were later divorced. She married her beloved soul mate Scott Sowles on March 12, 1994, in Pueblo, Colorado. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her faith and her sunny disposition won many close friends and helped her prevail over the many health trials she endured. A hard worker, she enjoyed working for C.W. Adams Jewelers, State Farm Insurance and at the time of her death, was a marketing analyst for the 375th COM Squadron at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Surviving are her husband and sweetheart, Scott Sowles of Fairview Heights, Illinois; stepchildren, Scott Jr. also of Fairview Heights, Illinois and Samantha of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and her friend and companion Curly the dog. Also surviving are her parents of Brigham City, Utah, and three brothers and two sisters: Brad (Cindy) Hess of University Park, Maryland; Jim (Cindy) Hess of Fremont, California; Bob (Lisa) Hess of Bountiful, Utah; Kathy (Clyde) Williams of Sandy, Utah; and Louenda (Vance) Downs of Layton, Utah; and sister-in-law, Kris (Tom) Adams of Preston, Idaho. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mariah Collett, brother, Larry Hess and her grandparents. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery. MARILYN PREY HUNSAKER MT. PLEASANT - Marilyn Prey Hunsaker loving wife, mother and grandmother age 73, of Mt. Pleasant passed away July 18, 2004. She was born October 27, 1930, in Buffalo, New York, to Irving Demaire and Evelyn Caroline Winch Prey. She married Wayne S. Hunsaker on January 16, 1960 in Mesa, Arizona, in the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed sharing her beautiful voice and oil painting, but most of all she cherished time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Wayne S. Hunsaker, Mt. Pleasant, UT; children, Justin (Nicole) Hunsaker of Spanish Fork, UT and Michelle (John) Ruell of Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery under the direction of Rasmussen Mortuary. E. O. (GENE) HENDERSON BRIGHAM CITY Eugene O. Henderson known to most as Gene, and to friends and family as "Rasu" passed away Friday, July 16, 2004, in Brigham City, Utah, from complications from pneumonia. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Dad was born July 8, 1925, in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Orville R. and Arvilla Weaver Henderson. He grew up and attended school in St. Anthony where he served as senior class president. Upon graduation from high school in 1943, dad enlisted in the US Navy. After training at the US Naval Training Center in Farragut, Idaho, he served aboard a destroyer in the Aleutian Islands and other areas in the Pacific. He was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict. He married Florence Davis in 1947. They later divorced. Dad married Julia Geniel Johnson on August 2, 1950, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They spent their early years in St. Anthony, where dad worked for Block's clothing store. They later moved to Burley and Twin Falls, Idaho and in 1963, relocated to Brigham City, Utah, where he was manager of the Block's store. During this time, he was involved with the Merchant's Committee and served as president of the Brigham City Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Brigham City Elks Lodge. He later worked at Thiokol Corporation retiring in 1989. Dad was a member of the Mountain View Ward. He was an avid reader and enjoyed "puttering" in his workshop, trips to Wendover watching "Wheel of Fortune", and spending time with his family. Dad is survived by our mom Julia of Brigham City; daughter Kristi (Larry) Merrill of Roy; sons, Lane (Faye) of Brigham City, Kurt (Bonnie) of Perry, Jon (Gayle) of South Ogden; nine grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one great grandchild, and six step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Shirley (Donald) Rice of Sugar City, Idaho, Arlene Stoddard of Kellogg, Idaho; and a brother Gary (Charlene) of Reno, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Duane, and brother-in-law Lionel Stoddard. Dad's wish was to have no viewing or funeral. His desire was to have his body donated to the University of Utah School of Medicine. There will be a memorial and celebration of life held for family and close friends. Send condolences to the family at www.myers-mortuary.com ELIZA LEONE CORDON NIELSEN 10/15/1923-7/24/2004 Eliza Leone Cordon Nielsen passed away at home on July 24, 2004, in the company of her family. She was born in Willard, Box Elder, Utah, to Joseph Moroni Cordon and Sylvia Maria Wood on October 15, 1923. Leone lived in Willard until she was about 10 years old when the family moved to Idaho. They lived in Idaho Falls and later Rigby. Her parents made the "Little Jack Horner pies and Leone remembers coming home from school and washing pie tins while her brother Edwin rolled out the pie dough. Leone graduated from Rigby High School in 1941. She attended one year at Ricks College and later a semester at Boise State University. She married her sweetheart, Andrew Dale Nielsen, on February 18, 1946. The couple eloped to Dillon, Beaverhead, Montana with their good friends Coral Baird and Rex Nelson. It was a double wedding. They were married for 58 years. Leone raised her children in Idaho, moving from Idaho Falls to Boise, then to Pocatello and back to Boise (Eagle). The family also lived in Alexandria, Virginia (Ft. Belvoir) and Tacoma, Washington (Ft. Lewis) at various times as Andy pursued a military career. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings in Relief Society, Primary, and was an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple and later in the Salt Lake Temple. She was compassionate, always helping others. Leone and Andrew served in the Arizona Phoenix Mission between January 2000 and June 2001. They lived on the Navajo Indian Reservation and worked with the Native Americans. They made many lifelong friends with whom they are still in contact. They loved the people. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Edwin Wood Cordon, sisters Carma Lowe, LaVon Baddley, and her daughter Teresa Ann Nielsen. She is survived by her husband, son Eric Dale Nielsen (Marva), daughters Lynne Nielsen, Kimberly Mitchell (Jonas), granddaughter Annaka Nielsen, and step-grandchildren Jason Kinnersley (Angela), Christopher Kinnersley (Erica) and Heidi Chee (Wakely). The funeral will be Thursday, July 29, at the Wasatch Stake Center located at 8170 Short Hills Drive, Salt Lake City at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cannon Mortuary at 2460 E. BURT JOSEPH MILLER BRIGHAM CITY - Burt Joseph Miller, 85 passed away at his home on Monday, July 26, 2004. He was born on January 3, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Howard and Grace Dougherty Miller. Burt married Genevieve Stankovitch on September 14, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio. He served in the US Army during World War II in the 42nd Rainbow Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church. Burt was a policeman in Cleveland for 35 years retiring as a Lieutenant in the Narcotics Unit. He and his wife moved to Brigham City in 1979. Burt enjoyed working with wood. He built his home and helped his neighbors build their homes. He had a great sense of humor which will be missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve of Brigham City; one son, James Miller of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Grace Vassar, Bay Village, Ohio; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Burt. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 380 South 200 East, Brigham City, Utah. A vigil service will be held on Sunday at 6 p.m. followed by a viewing until 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Gillies-Petersen Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah. Interment will be in the Willard City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder County. KHRIS SALAZAR DREWES BRIGHAM CITY - Khris Ann Salazar Drewes, 39, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on May 14, 1965, in San Antonio, Texas, a daughter of Anthony and Angie Silva Salazar. Khris was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church. When growing up Khris belonged to a drill team and enjoyed twirling her baton. She was a member of the Brigham City Swimming Team. While employed at Pioneer Nursing Home, Khris was loved by her residents. Khris attended Beau La Reine College of Beauty, and prior to graduation was at the Greenery Beauty Shop. In time Khris purchased The Greenery and ran a successful business. She also enjoyed attending and entering hair shows. Many times she would bring awards home. After she sold The Greenery, Khris worked at Mainstreet Hair Cutters until her illness would not allow her to continue. As stated by Khris' loving husband, Karl, she remained a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Khris juggled with many things at once but always seemed to find time to help family and friends. Before Khris left us, she enjoyed creative cooking, crocheting, making jewelry, and gardening in her Martha Stewart gardening shoes. She also enjoyed golf, and loved spending time at Bear Lake--that was the best!! She is survived by her husband, Karl; one son, Bradley Rick O'Grady; one daughter, Merecedes Klien O'Grady; two granddaughters, Bradly and Brinlea O'Grady, all of Brigham City; parents, Anthony "Tony" Salazar and Angie Silva, both of Brigham City; grandparents, Dora Salazar and Anastacio Salazar, both of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Anthony Salazar, Brigham City; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by grandparents Pat and Mickey Silva. ALLEN OGDEN -- Phyllis Lynn Allen, 51, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2004. She was born on April 28, 1953, in Elko, Nevada, a daughter of Clifton Hugh and Vada Loy Harlan. She was a life-long resident of Utah and was raised in Willard and graduated from Box Elder High School. She married her best friend, Jim Allen, on September 25, 1993. She made it very clear to her family and friends that they were the best eleven years of her life. Phyllis's favorite pastimes were her crafts and tole painting. She loved camping and fishing with her husband, sons and grandson. There are many happy memories of camping trips with other family members. Family was very important to her, and she was especially close to her grandson, Neo. Phyllis had been employed by Chromalox for 23 years. The last five years she had enjoyed being at home. Survivors include her husband, Jim of Ogden; two sons, Tyson and Sheldon Dunn, Ogden, UT; one grandson, Neo Bradley Dunn; mother, Vada Harlan, Sedro Woolley, WA; sisters: Clara McKay, Sedro Woolley, WA; Grace (Lester) Petersen, Selah, WA; Jennie Harlan, Ogden, UT; Patti Harlan, St. Augustine, FL; Sandy (Rich) Kowell, Mt. YATES BRIGHAM CITY Elsie Evelyn Bott Yates, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the Bear River Valley Hospital. Elsie was born on May 29, 1922, in Brigham City, UT, a daughter of George Henry and Christine Evelyn Nielsen Bott. During her earlier years Elsie worked at Peach City Ice Cream, Brigham Apparel and JC Penney in Brigham City. Elsie graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Woodbury Business College in Los Angles, CA. She married Lamont Lester Yates on June 24, 1942, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Elsie was an active and devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Having served as Primary President, Relief Society Branch President for Godfrey Nursing Home, and teacher in all organizations and vocalist for numerous religious functions. She was avid in Cub Scout and Boy Scout's of America as a leader and trainer. She had been a member of the Orpheus Chorus, Charter member of Box Elder Symphonic Choir and V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed making quilts and afghans for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling during her lifetime was able to travel through out the United States. In her later years she attended the temple faithfully on a weekly basis. Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom will all greatly miss their beloved Grandma. Surviving are her children: Suellen (Steven) Sulunga, Kauai, Hawaii; Larry Lamont (Coleen) Yates, Ogden; Elmer E. (Debbie) Yates, Brigham City; George Elias (Debbie) Yates, Brigham City; Evelyn (Darrell) Walker, Corinne; Liz (Ted) Taylor, Brigham City; 23 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brothers, Eugene (Norma) Bott, Brigham City; Crosby Bott, Torrance, CA; and sister, Barbara (Palmer) Tingey, Lodi, CA. She was born September 29, 1920, in Brigham City, Utah, daughter of Arthur and Jane Sycamore. She married Wilford W. Harris August 20, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mrs. Harris lived in Tremonton, Bothwell and spent winters in Quartzsite, Arizona. She taught Home Economics at Bear River Junior and Senior High. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities. She is survived by her children: Cynthia Lock-Smith, Paul Harris, David and Beth Harris, and Mary Jane and Ed Shaw; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild; also survived by her sister Afton Larsen. She is preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister and her parents. Funeral services will be held at the Bothwell LDS church Wednesday, August 4 at 11 am. He was born on August 7, 1930, in Mantua, Utah, a son of Oriel and Reta Nelson. Oriel married Deanne Hansen on August 18, 1950, in Bear River City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on December 17, 1963. He was member of the Mantua First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Oriel was a Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the Defense Depot in Ogden where he has been employed for 38 years. Surviving are his children: Craig (ShirRae) Nelson, Mantua; Burke (Solveig) Nelson, Bear River City; Keith Nelson, Mantua; Darryl (Becky) Nelson, Mantua; Darla (Ken) Jones, Ogden; 11 grandchildren and one sister Oralee (Gayle) Stark, Burley, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister Leaine Jensen.
