Leora was born on January 6, 1921, in Honeyville, Utah, a daughter of Christian Larsen and Rose Gleed Larsen. She married Earl Smith Thompson on December 9, 1935, in Rupert Idaho. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in the Relief Society. Surviving are her daughter, Rosalee (Jerry) Riddle, Ogden; son, Larry (RaNae) Thompson, Ogden; son-in-law, Arland Tingey, Mantua; brother, LaMar Bud (Marie) Larsen, Corinne; 19 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. Leora was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Earl Smith Thompson; two daughters, Alta Mae Tingey and Earlene Varner, her parents, one sister, two brothers, one step-son, one son-in-law, and one grandson. RICHARDSON BRIGHAM CITY - Merlin Grant Richardson, 62, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2004, after living with MS for 30 years. He was born on April 2, 1942, in Brigham City, Utah, a son of Jedediah Grant Richardson and Wanda Ann Bowden Richardson Lichfield. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1960. He went to Weber College and received a bachelor's degree in History and Science. Merlin served his country for four years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. Merlin was married to Oralee Nelson. They had one child, Shelly Richardson. They were divorced. He married Margaret Ann (Peggy) Sorensen on January 10, 1964. From that union was born three loves of Merlin's life. Monica Williams, Kelly Richardson and Brandon Richardson. They were sealed together as a family in the Logan LDS Temple on July 31, 1974. They were divorced. Merlin loved his family and liked to go on trips and camp. He loved to fish, hunt and enjoyed the great outdoors. Merlin worked as a Systems Analyst at Hill Air Force Base retiring in 1990. Merlin was an Elder in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the 20th Ward. Merlin had a testimony of the gospel and loved the Lord. He was a good son, brother, father and grandfather. Surviving are three children; four grandchildren; Conrad Hatch, Brianna and Myk Richardson, Ian Montes; three brothers: Jed (Pat) Richardson, Tooele; Robert (Judy) Richardson, Draper; David (Charma) Richardson, Roy; five sisters: Cleopha (Ben) Cogdill, Ogden; Kathleen (Larry) DeGunnia, West Valley; LaVern (Merv) Tanner, Brigham City; Melba Bemis, Sandy; Rhea (Harvey) Christensen, Brigham City. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Shelly, two brothers, Alden and Oscar, one sister, Ileen. MARK LEON MEADOWS WEST JORDAN - Mark Leon Meadows, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend left this world November 7, 2004, at his home in West Jordan. Mark was born March 14, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leonard Ronald and Merle Reid Meadows. He married Cynthia Bernice Johnson on September 7, 1979; together they raised three beautiful children. Mark was an extremely hard worker and was employed by Harmon's Grocery Store working in many successful positions for over thirty years. Mark had a great passion for gardening and collecting antiques. He also enjoyed NASCAR, fishing and golfing, but most of all he loved helping others. Mark will be greatly missed and will forever leave a void in the hearts of his family and friends. Mark is survived by his wife; son, William Cody; daughters, Mysti Rae and Myndi May; his mother; brothers, Jay (Maryanne) Meadows, Virginia and Daren (Terry) Meadows, Herriman, UT; sisters, Lynn (Mike) Mangum, Richmond, UT and Karen (Curtis) Christensen, Bear River, UT; mother-in-law, Connie Johnson; many brothers and sisters-in-law; 33 nieces and nephews, and many close friends and extended family. Interment in the Valley View Memorial Park. GARETH MAUGHAN BAIRD , age 70, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004, in Modesto, California. He was born on October 12, 1934, in Brigham City, Utah, the eldest son of J. Edwin and Elizabeth Bradshaw Maughan Baird. Gareth graduated from Box Elder High School and attended Utah State before serving in the Army's 6th Infantry Division stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. After serving a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission, he attended the University of Wyoming, later receiving his Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees from BYU. Gareth married his sweetheart Sandra Olivia Johnson on June 28, 1962, in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple. Gareth taught 4th grade in the Alpine School District before his employment with the Church Education System. CES assignments included: Seminary at Central Jr. High School and Granite High School in Salt Lake City, Institute of Religion in Thatcher and Glendale, Arizona, Institute Director at the Sacrament City College, and Institute Director and Seminary Coordinator in Modesto, CA, where he had resided for the last 24 years. He was a master teacher. He enjoyed playing ping pong and basketball. Gareth was the Bishop of the Sacramento Seventh Ward, before moving to Modesto where he served on the high council for many years. Gareth is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Modesto, California; seven children: Brian Gareth Baird of Hawaii; Gregory Maughan Baird of Modesto; Natalie Baird Bishop of Tahoe City; Philip Edwin Baird of Modesto; Roger Johnson Baird of the South Pole; Lynette Baird Scoresby of Dallas, and Erica Baird Evans of Modesto; nine grandchildren; two brothers, John E. Baird II of Provo, Utah, and Douglas F. Baird of Ashland, Oregon. She was born on October 1, 1928, in Vetern, Wyoming, a daughter of Joseph and Candelaria Cortez Navarro. Angelina married Robert Archuleta on January 27, 1951, in Malad City, Idaho. She worked at IRS as an auditor and retired after 18 years of service. Angelina was a member of First Baptist Church in Brigham City. She was a teacher and loved being a part of the church family. She coached little league baseball for four years. She loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Curly enjoyed dancing and going out to eat and loved going out to Wendover. Surviving is her husband, Robert, Brigham City; four children: Robert C. Archuleta, Arizona; Gabriel (Dolores) Archuleta, Roy; Consuelo (Robert) Perea, Brigham City; Edward (Gennie) Archuleta, Ogden; special granddaughters, Alicia (Luis) and her children, Dominic, Alejandro; LJ; Corona Quintero, Brigham City; Hasba Trujillo, El Paso. Silva, 66, died Saturday, November 13, 2004, at Ogden Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on June 28, 1938, in Florenceville, Texas, a son of Elidio Silva and Patrocinia Cardenas Silva. Leon married Myrna Taylor on November 11, 1964. They had one son and were later divorced. On August 30, 1975, he married Carol Checketts Garcia and gained two stepchildren. He worked at Whitakers Construction for 32 years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing on various leagues throughout the years. He made frequent trips to Wendover to spend time doing one of the things he loved most. He is survived by his father; three brothers: Charlie (Teresa) Silva, Ruben (Bonnie) Silva, and Jimmy (Holly) Silva; three sisters: Mary (Joe) Tafoya, Linda (Joe) Rios and Carol Garcia; his son, Tony (Katherine) Silva, Carol Silva and two step-children, Darcy and Shane Garcia and two beautiful granddaughters, Morgan Silva and Lexi Garcia as well as several other family members. He was preceded in death by his mother and many other various relatives. Leon was loved by all, he spent countless hours helping others in life. His caring heart and thoughtful hands will be felt by all for years to come. Rose was born on July 26, 1962, in Brigham City, a daughter of Grant H. and Janice Nelson Johnson. She was raised in Perry and graduated from Box Elder High School. Rose had a special love for animals, enjoyed photography, and had a strong faith in her Savior. She was born on July 20, 1939, in La Junta, Colorado, a daughter of Francis Orville Hurt and Ella Florence Taylor Hurt. Margaret married Sylvera Jay John on September 17, 1958, and they were later divorced on December 12, 1978. She also married Stephen Bruce Monsen on July 20, 1986, and they were divorced on March 2, 2000. She was a member of both the Catholic and LDS churches. Margaret was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2919 Ladies Auxiliary. She had been employed by Palmer Jewelers, Thomas Jewelers and Steven B. Monsen Construction. Margaret participated in mountain man rendevous and her given mountain man name was Three Bricks. She loved crafts, poetry, music, painting and her grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her children: Jeffrey (Anita) John, Hamilton, MT; Linda (Johnny Bill) Singh, Corinne, UT; Steven (Stacie) John, Brigham City, UT; brothers and sisters: Bob (Sheri) Pierson, Fallon, NV; Mary (Jim) Cahill, Leadville, CO; Jim (Tinker) Hurt, Pueblo, CO; Frank Hurt, Brigham City, UT; grandchildren, Julie John, Robert John, Corey Allred, Colton John, Dawson John and Maklay John; great grandson, Josiah Wayne Oliva, and numerous nieces and nephews. CHRISTENSEN BRIGHAM CITY - Bert L. Christensen, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2004, at his home in Brigham City. He was born on October 4, 1912, in Bear River City, Utah, a son of Edgar LeRoy and Hortense Crompton Christensen. Bert married Ida Freeman on April 5, 1942, in Brigham City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He was a member of the Brigham City First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Stake Sunday School, High Priest Group as Secretary, Young Men and in the ward choir. Bert belonged to the Democratic Party and was the President of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He had worked at the Brigham Tire Shop, Joe Carr Garage and in the last years he was self employed at Bert's Wheel Alignment. After retiring, he worked for Precision Auto Parts. Bert enjoyed hunting, bowling, and traveling. Surviving is his wife, Ida of Brigham City; three sons: Robert W. (Karin) Christensen, Olympia, WA; Brent F. (Jill) Christensen, Brigham City; Kevin B. ARTHUR "BRAD" CAMPBELL FARR WEST - Arthur Bradfield "Brad" Campbell, 71, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2004, at Manor Care in Ogden, Utah, following a stroke. He was born on May 5, 1933, in Hinton, Oklahoma, a son of Jacob Arthur and Berenice Emma Willhite Campbell. Brad graduated from Alva, Oklahoma High School and Oklahoma Northwestern State College in Alva, Oklahoma. He served in the US Navy during the Korea Conflict from 1952 to 1960. He received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2919, Past Worthy President and Vice President of the Eagles, American Legion Post #10 and the Golden Spike Trap Club. Brad married Charlene Campbell, they were later divorced. From this union they had two daughters, Sharla (Greg) Parkhurst and Jennifer (Kenny) Hinkle both of Wichita, Kansas. Brad married the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Hall on February 21, 1986, in Brigham City, Utah. He retired from Thiokol in 1992, as Design Specialist in the Space Shuttle Program. Brad enjoyed golfing, trap shooting, fishing, and making balsa model planes. He also liked spending time with his family, friends and making trips to Wendover and my "Scotch". Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Jean, Farr West; two daughters, Sharla and Jennifer; three step children: C.A. (Yvonne) Hall, Deweyville; Jeffrey Scott Hall, Layton; Carla Hall (Charlie) Lynch, Brigham City; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Van and his parents. IVY LYNN ANDERSON OGDEN On November 18, 2004, Ivy Lynn Anderson was born to Teal Watkins Anderson and Russell James Anderson and her sister, Holly Rachel Anderson. She was welcomed whole-heartedly by her loving family. Her long anticipated arrival was short lived as she died on November 21, 2004. Her precious spirit brought joy and happiness to everyone, and more so to her family. They loved her and will dearly miss her. WILDER NED FAIRBANKS WILLARD Wilder Ned Fairbanks, died peacefully at his home, November 22, 2004, surrounded by his wife and all five of his children. He was born November 9, 1925, a son of Wilder Fairbanks and Laura Mabel McKown Fairbanks. Ned was reared in the Duchesne area by kind and loving parents and had a happy young life. He enjoyed the mountains and streams, fishing and hunting and all the various sports that were available. He was educated in Duchesne schools and on June 30, 1943, married Althora Mayhew in Provo, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on June 20, 1944. Ned served in the Pacific during World War II with the 27th regiment of the 25th division. He returned to Duchesne after the war where he owned and operated a farm, worked in the Duchesne post office, and served in various church and civic assignments, including scoutmaster, Elders Quorum President and county chairman of the American Red Cross. In 1955, Ned transferred to the postal service in Ogden, Utah, where he worked until retirement in 1980. He and Althora purchased a fruit farm in South Willard in 1961, where they built a home. His life was centered around his wife and family. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He loved living in the country and working on his farm. Ned enjoyed the great outdoors and liked to travel. He loved God, his country and was always proud to be an American. He was a member of the Willard Third Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. where he served as a Sunday School President, councilor in the bishopric and several years in the High Priest Group leadership. He is survived by his loving wife, Althora; his sons, Michael Ned (Holly) Fairbanks, Mark Stephen (Darcy) Fairbanks; daughters: Suzanne Althora (Larry) Williamson, Sharla Rae (Doug) Lemon, and Sherri Lee (Gary) Swinden. He and Althora are proud grandparents to 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; also surviving a sister, Maxine Robinson. He is preceded in death by brother, Joseph (Little Joe) Fairbanks, sister, Arlene Smith. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 30, at 11 a.m. at the Willard Peak Chapel, 665 West 7615 South, Willard. He was born November 28, 1920, in Sheridan, WY, son of Harry H. Davis and Martha Minerva Burns Davis. After graduating from the South Dakota School of Mines, he worked in Amidon, ND, where he met Donna I. Atkinson. They were married June 5, 1943. Vernon served in the Navy during WWII. After the war, he resumed his career and interest in precious ores and mining, and worked in Dakotas, Wisconsin, Utah, Washington and in 1964 moved to Albuquerque, NM, where he lived until October, 2002, when he and Donna moved to Brigham City, UT. In April 2004 they moved into Beehive Assisted living in Pleasant Grove. Vernon is survived by his wife, Donna; a sister Phyllis Holub of Sheridan, WY; two sons, Harry Davis, of Pleasant Grove, Steven Davis of Gallup, NM, and two daughters, Susan Whitworth of Brigham City and Laura Ott, of Steilacoom, WA; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Dale and Dolores Ellis, and a great granddaughter, Angela Rose Tritapoe. In accordance with Vernon's wishes, he was cremated. A memorial service and burial will take place later in the Mound Cemetery near Rhame, North Dakota. WILHELMA MAES HEREDIA BRIGHAM CITY Wilhelma Heredia, 69, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2004, at the Brigham City Community Hospital. She was born on February 7, 1935, in Redwing, Colorado, a daughter of Antonio and Domitilla Maes. Wilhelmia married Seferino Heredia on October 6, 1961, in Brigham City, Utah. She worked at Brigham Food Bank and was a member of St. Henry's Catholic Church in Brigham City and a CCD teacher and was a member of the Migrant (Hispanic) Council. Surviving are her husband, Seferino Heredia; children, Arthur Heredia and Oralia (Jose) Cordova and two grandchildren, Estevan (Ivett) and Jose Cordova; also her brothers: David Maes; Lloyd Maes; LeRoy Maes; Bobby Maes; Benny Maes; Elmer Maes; Antonio (Sonny) Maes; and sisters: Florida Alvares; Jeannie Martinez; Charlotte Barrera; Vivian Eaton. HILL BRIGHAM CITY Our "Tricia" Mictricia Marie Hill was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. Our loss was sudden and of unknown cause, her night of sleep became her eternal slumber. Our sweet angel was a source of joy for all of her extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, her Uncle Lee and Godfather expressed it best - that she is an abundance of laughter and great joy. With total devotion to her family and known as the queen of the home she was Dusty and Britt's second mother. With countless friends and a love for collecting movies she lacked only the theater in which to entertain all of her precious sources of joy. Dearest Tricia, our memories of you are precious and a true gift from God that will forever survive. Tricia was born in Brigham City on October 25, 1978, a daughter of F. Bruce Hill and Consuelo "Connie" Silva. Throughout her younger years she was active in Utah Stars and competed in dance, drill, baton and jazz competitions. Graduating from Box Elder High School she was employed by Shopko, was an assistant manager at Pizza Hut and latter attended Stacey Beauty College wherein she progressed into a talented and creative nail technician at Attitudes in Brigham City. Surviving are her parents; Connie Bessinger of Brigham City, Doug Bessinger of Garden City, UT, F. Bruce (Linda) Hill of Chino, CA; brother, Dustin Bessinger, Garden City, UT, and sister, Brittania Bessinger, Brigham City; grandparents, Farriel and Mary Hill, Scott and Merline Bessinger; great-grandparents, Marion Jeppesen and Grandma Dot Bessinger and by many special aunts, uncles, and cousins. THOMAS MARTIN KEMPF Born August 12, 1935 in Fresno, CA Died November 11, 2004 in Salt Lake City, UT Tom passed away quickly at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. He grew up in Ephraim, UT and attended Wasatch Academy. He graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, finishing up by supporting himself as an auto mechanic, one of his lifelong loves, hobbies and occupations. During a brief marriage to Merlene Bahr, he enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War, receiving a wartime commission as an officer. After the war, he lived briefly in California while working for Shell Oil. He was later married to Mary Arnold and transferred to the Air Force Reserve, serving his country for more than 35 years. He attended Snow College in Ephraim, then transferred to Utah State University in Logan, UT where he received his B.S. in computer science while working for Sperry-Remington. He subsequently moved his family to Brigham City, UT and followed his dream to own and operate his own business, Sport Buggies, Ltd., initially specializing in dune buggies, sand rails, and Volkswagen repair. Because he especially loved cars, the outdoors, and his kids, he often combined all three on fishing, hunting, camping and road trips. After many years in Utah, he moved his business to Las Vegas, NV to take over Wolf Motor Works and to help care for both of his elderly parents. After a devastating car accident and subsequent illness, he moved back to Salt Lake City to live with his daughter, followed by his residency for several years at Midtown Manor nursing home. He truly enjoyed and appreciated the staff there because of their attentive care. Tom was always well known for his contagious sense of humor, sharp intellect and feisty personality. He'll be missed immensely by his many friends and family. He is survived by his children: sons, T. Marc Kempf; Michael S. Kempf; daughter Stacey Kempf. Also survived by his siblings: brother, C. BRIGHAM CITY Lawrence "Red" Kent Mason, Sr., our beloved Father, grandfather and great-grandfather and husband, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, November 16, 2004. He was surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Lawrence was born on July 27, 1922, in Gateway, Oregon, a son of James Benjamin Mason and Esther Emily Coburn Mason. Dad grew up in Madras, Oregon and graduated from Madras Union High School on May 15, 1941. Shortly after graduating Dad enlisted with the United States Army. He fought during WWII with the Med Det 335 INF REG 84th Rail Splitter Div. He was taken prisoner of war December 24, 1944, to a camp located near Hanover, Germany. Dad had marched over a thousand miles through Europe wearing a pair of wooden shoes strapped with sheets on his feet, as a German soldier took his boots. Dad was put into forced labor, concentration camps in the coldest winter in Germany's history. The great day of freedom came on May 2, 1945, and five days later Dad, found himself in the City of Brussels where, with his war worn comrades, he celebrated V.E. Day. Dad said that when he was a prisoner he prayed to God everyday that his life would be spared, so he could someday marry and have a family of his own. He married his sweetheart Loualla "Babe" Marie Patchen on July 22, 1951, in Portland, Oregon. She passed away on January 23, 2004. Dad worked at Intermountain Tribal School as a night attendant and Dorm Father for the students. Dad was also employed at Thiokol as a Security Guard for 10 years. He and Babe ran the old Flying J Station in Willard, where they met many friends. He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, gardening, woodworking, visiting with neighbors and being a horseman. Lawrence is survived by his loving son, Ronald R. (Esther) Mason, Sr., Bear River, WY; his three special granddaughters: Amanda (Craig) Campbell, So. Ogden, UT; Jessica Amber (Christopher Grenda) Mason, Brigham City, UT; Martie Marie Herrera, Brigham City; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, who all knew him as "Uncle by God." Also surviving are his sisters, Marguerite (Lewis) Jones, Culver, IN; Doris May Mason, Portland, OR; sister-in-law, Madeline Patchen, Bend, OR. Don was born November 23, 1927, in Brigham City, Utah, the son of Curtis Clay and Luella May Nelson. He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in Lynn, Utah, until the eighth grade. He attended ninth grade in Brigham City and 10th grade in Bear River, Utah. He lived in Lynn, Utah with his family on the Ranch. After Don married, he purchased a portion of his father's ranch. He had three children. Don met the love of his life, Kristine Reynolds, in October of 1981. They married in Lynn, on July 19, 1986. Don and Kris lived on the ranch where they started building the foundation of his life-long dream "The Pretty Horse Ranch." After relocating to Buhl, Idaho in 1997, his dream came true with Nelson Horse Ranch. He is survived by his wife, Kris, of Buhl; two sons, Randy Nelson and Roddy (Viki) Nelson; two daughters, Carol Ramsey and Barbara (Chris) Harrell; one brother, Keith (Ila) Nelson; two sisters, Maureen Nelson and Elsie Phyllis Johnson; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Raine, on November 22, 2004, was delivered from this life to remain everlastingly in our thoughts, at the age of 63. Bob was born on June 1, 1941, in Harrisonville, MO, a son of Cecil and Mary Raine. He married his wife Diane on July 3, 1990, in Lake Tahoe, NV. Bob possessed an absolute passion for sports. He was both a gifted athlete and spectator, noted for his ability to understand the events and convey his thoughts for the mentorship of others. In particular, he was very talented at the sport of golf, and now can be found on the back nine. Bob's aptitude for sporting activities translated to his career, where he was a highly regarded manager of the Sports Book in Wendover, NV. He was a true friend and man of high moral values. His genuine personality, conviction for honesty, and admired temperament are characteristics that many will attempt to emulate, and which only few will attain. Von Roy Olsen was born July 25, 1934, in Logan, Utah, son of Derwood D Olsen and Jacob LeGrande and Juanita Hatch Olsen Bollschweiler. Von returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 18, 2004, at his home with his wife and family by his side. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He was raised in Ogden, and Salt Lake City. He also lived in Mountain Green and Brigham City. He joined the Army and served his country with honor. His military service took him to California, Maine, New Jersey, and the Philippines. Von was employed at HAFB for 30 years, working in Building 100 and the Engineering Test Facility. He worked on the Titan, Bomark and Minute Man Missiles, traveling throughout the United States in the electronic field. He retired in 1989. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities. He served a two year mission with his wife, Sharon, at the Ogden Temple as an Ordinance Worker. He always said it was the best non-paying job he ever had, but the blessings were immeasurable. Von was married in 1980 to Sharon Stokes and in 1983 their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple. His hobbies were fishing, fishing, and fishing. He also enjoyed electronics, music and getting together with family and friends for an evening of table games. His greatest dream was to go fishing and tour Alaska, which he did during the summer of 2004. He loved life, his immediate and extended family and his many cherished friends. Schade, passed away Friday, November 26, 2004. He died from injuries sustained in a boating accident in Parker, Arizona. He was 58 years old. Gus was born on November 25, 1946, in Ogden, Utah where he grew up and lived. Gus was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived in the Washington Terrace Twelfth Ward. He served his country during the Vietnam War and received an Honorable Discharge in December, 1971, from the U.S. Army after his two-year term of service. Gus was a member of the American Power Boat Association. He was the consummate sprint boat racer, gentleman and individual. There is no equal as to how he conducted himself on and off the racecourse. If there ever was a role model to shape your driving career, Gus was that man. Gus was employed by Staker Parson Companies. He worked there for 24 years. He also drove part-time for Albertson's Food Stores. Gus married Vickie Lane Allen on October 4, 1979. They were later divorced. He married Carolyn Hansen on December 16, 1989. He was a devoted Dad to six children: Neil, Brody, Chad, Angie, Suzy and Beccaman and was "Papa Gus" to seven grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children: Neil and Kim Humphreys of Savannah, Georgia; Brody Schade of Ogden; Chad Allen of Ogden; Angela and Rory O'Neill of Indianapolis, Indiana; Suzanne and Brig Bramwell of West Point and Rebecca Roche of Ogden and his grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and their families, Dennis and Kathleen Schade, Chicago, Illinois, and Bryan (his best friend) and Rhea Schade, Ogden. Nicholas Kingston, loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and sister, passed away on November 25, 2004, at the age of 96, at the Pioneer Care Center. She returned to her Heavenly Father to be re-united with family and friends who have gone on before. Thurza was born in Willard, Utah, on March 11, 1908, to Bert and Hannah Brunker Nicholas. She attended Willard Elementary and Box Elder High School. She married Clarence Matthew Young on February 6, 1931, and they were later divorced. She worked very hard raising and supporting her three daughters. She married Willard "Bill" Kingston on June 1, 1956, in Berkeley, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Bill died February 23, 1992. Thurza was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life she held many positions in the LDS Church including being in the Relief Society Presidency, Sunday School and Primary Teacher, in the Young Women's Presidency and was Relief Society Visiting Teacher for many years. She and her husband, Bill, served as temple missionaries in the Ogden LDS Temple. Thurza served as County Recorder for one term, and was chief operator for Mountain Bell for many years until the office went to the dial system. She then worked for Thiokol in communications until her retirement. After her retirement from Thiokol, she served as the first supervisor in the kitchen in the senior citizen center. During World War II she served as a gray lady at Bushnell General Hospital. Thurza has been active in the community, serving as President of the Business and Professional Women, Captain of the Sego Lily Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, as well as South Box Elder County Camp President. Her family and friends have many ceramic pieces she made at the senior center. She enjoyed oil painting and crocheting, having made many afghans. She enjoyed music and loved to sing. Surviving are three daug0hters and spouses: Kathryn (Doug) Wight, Roberta (Lee) Baron and Lorraine (Reese) Hansen, all of Brigham City; 21 grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren and 51 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Opal Tingey and Hannah Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, two grandsons and a great grandson. She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Edith Peterson, Freda Valentine and Roberta Storey and one brother, Gordon. We would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Care Center for the love and care they gave to Mom. Mom thought so much of all of them. He was born January 16, 1922, in Preston, Idaho, son of Wilford and Ella Nora Wixom Stokes. Merl was a high priest in the Willard First Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many church callings throughout his life. He served his country well in the 104th Timberwolf division during WWII, where he received several honors including two purple hearts. While in Germany he met and married Helga Lang. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They moved to Franklin, Idaho, after his military service and operated the family farm. They later moved their family to Logan, while Merl was employed by Fife Rock Products in Brigham City. Following the death of his wife, Helga, of 35 years, he married Marion Graser Holmes of Willard, Utah, where they lived and operated a farm and orchards. Merl is survived by his wife Marion Stokes; children: Elke Phillips, Sylvia (Ken) Harris, Robert (Sharlene) Stokes, Heidi (Rex) Colledge; step-children: Larry (Chris) Holmes, Virginia (Doug) Thompson, Kevin (Cindy) Holmes, Bruce (Jodi) Holmes, Colleen (Shawn) Gardner; sister-in-law, Velma Stokes, Murtaugh, ID; brother, Bill (Martha) Stokes, Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Phyllis (Henry) Clark, Sandy, UT; brother, Joseph (Carol) Stokes, Roy, UT, 32 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helga Stokes, son Mikel Merl Stokes and brothers Lyman and Paul Stokes.
