Smith LOGAN, Utah -- Geraldine Mendenhall Smith, 79, former Grace, Idaho, resident, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, at the Logan House Assisted Living Center in Logan. She was born March 18, 1925, in Thatcher, Idaho, to Lovell James and Jennie McClellan Mendenhall. Geraldine married George Nathan Smith on Dec. 8, 1943, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced. She loved quilting and gardening. She always had an immaculate garden and a well-kept yard and lawn. She loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters and two sons, Jennifer (Randall) Smith of Heber City, Utah, Marilyn (Lynn) Jepson of Livermore, Calif., Pauline (Everett) Miles of Grace, Idaho, Don (Jerolyn) Smith of Manti, Utah, and Blaine (Nina) Smith of Orovada, Nev.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Duane (Ann) Mendenhall of Thatcher, Idaho. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and by one sister, Marilyn. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 7, in the Grace Idaho Stake Center with Bishop Crae Williams conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the stake center in Grace. Interment will be in the Grace Cemetery. Cecil Lyle Pitkin Cecil Lyle Pitkin passed away at his home on Feb. 3, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Aug. 10, 1927, in Logan, son of Willard Cecil and Evelyn Brown Pitkin. He was the first of five boys. Cecil Lyle married Lorene June Pearson on July 11, 1950, in Cornish, Utah. He grew up in Logan, attending Logan city schools and graduating in 1946. He then joined the Army and took his basic training in Fort Knox, Ky. He then served one year in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1947. Cecil Lyle had many jobs, including Rockwool Co., Zollinger Honey Co., Union Pacific Railroad, Sears and Thiokol, where he retired in 1990. He loved singing and playing the guitar, hunting, fishing, camping, bowling and golfing. He loved being a grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 1995 and has suffered from lung disease for several years. Surviving are his wife of nearly 55 years, Lorene; three daughters and one son, Susan (Lynn) Goldsberry of Millville, Utah, Debra (Glade) Smith of Smithfield, Utah, Nancy (Gary) Buttars of Logan, Utah, and Rodney (Lorrie) Pitkin of Logan; 14 grandchildren, Angie (Ken) Nelson of Henderson, Nev., Tami (Jayson) Curtis of Millville, Ryan (Jamie) Goldsberry of Woods Cross, Utah, Steffanie (James) Burt of Logan, David (Cydnee) Smith of Syracuse, Utah, Dustin Smith of Smithfield, Brandon (Andrea) Buttars of North Logan, Cody (Carly) Buttars of Logan, Trevor and Alisa Buttars of Logan, and Jennifer, Christopher, Tiffany and Amanda Pitkin of Preston, Idaho; two step-grandchildren, Stephanie and Jeremy Leishman; four great-grandchildren, Dallin and Katelyn Burt, Gracie Ann Curtis and McKayla Goldsberry; three step-great-grandchildren, Kalub and Kason Porter and Markell Walker; four brothers, George Leonard (Marjean) of Smithfield, Richard (Gayle) of Layton, Utah, Darrell of Riverside, Utah, and Jay (Julia), currently serving a mission in Damascus, Syria; and best friend and cousin, Bob (Bev) Brown of Arnold, Calif. Preceding him in death were his parents; parents-in-law, Lars and Gladys Pearson; sisters-in-law, Erlyn Pitkin, Leone and Joan Pearson; and brothers-in-law, Dean Pearson and Ervin Merrill. The family would like to thank their special neighbors as well as Dr. Stones and IHC Hospice (especially Dodie) for their special care. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Feb. 7, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, and again one hour prior to services on Monday.
