In tears we watched you sinking, we watched you fade away -- our hearts were nearly broken, you fought so hard to stay. It broke our hearts to see you go -- but you did not go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home." Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jerry Lee Schvaneveldt, passed away on Feb. 4, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 14, 1932, in Weston, Idaho, to Leland E. and Lila May Boothe Schvaneveldt. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Kirkbride, on May 9, 1952, in Dayton, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Jerry was self-employed as a dairy farmer for many years. In 1971, he turned his love for horses into his livelihood and began training and racing quarter horses throughout the Western states. Jerry took great pride in his work, and had a strong work ethic. It paid off as he was recognized as a leading trainer who won many futurities, derbies, and stakes races. In April 2004, he was inducted into the Idaho Horseman Hall of Fame, an award he was honored to be a part of. Jerry managed the Double Bar S Ranch in California from 1989 to 1992. In 1992 Jerry and Barbara moved back to Dayton and Jerry went to work for Weathershield. In 2001, they moved to Smithfield, Utah, and in December 2003, Jerry retired. His family was his greatest joy and often said how blessed he was to have such a "great bunch." Jerry had a smile and laugh that was contagious and will be greatly missed. Jerry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had served in various positions. He was a high priest in the Smithfield 16th Ward at the time of his passing. Jerry is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughters Reta (Les) Braker of Smithfield, and Lesa (Marc) Hirschi of Preston, Idaho; son Monte (Bonnie) Schvaneveldt of Romoland, Calif.; 14, grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Theo (Vivian) Schvaneveldt of Weston, Blaine (Shirley) Schvaneveldt of Cypress, Calif., Sid (Charlotte) Schvaneveldt, of Weston, Phil (Zefa) Schvaneveldt of Phoenix, Ariz., Brent (Marilyn) Schvaneveldt of American Falls, Idaho; sisters Janeal (Bud) Stevenson of Deweyville, Utah, Janice (Elray) Balls of Weston, Kay (Craig) Buttars of Malad, Idaho; and many loving nieces and nephews.
