Native of Byers Killed in Crash. Byers Funeral services for Luther L. (Luke) Dunn were held Friday, June 23 at 2 p.m. from the Bird drawing room Chapel in Provo Utah. Floyd R. Lewis, worshipful Master of the Damascus, AF&AM Lodge No. 10 Provo officiated. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah with graveside services conducted by members of the BPOE Lodge No. 849, of Provo. Members of the Springville Veterans of Foreign Wars post conducted military honors. Mr. Dunn was killed Tuesday at around 4 p.m. when his pickup truck crashed into a heavy air compressor parked at the edge of the road. Investigating officers said he apparently dosed from the wheel. He was born on September 19, 1913 in Byers a son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Dunn now residents of Live Oak, California. He was married to Miss Nellie Kaddas Hastings on February 1, 1959 in Ely Nevada. They were later divorced. Mr. Dunn served in the United States Navy for 24 years prior to retiring as a chief in 1955. During World War II he was captured and held as a prisoner of war. He also served in the Korean War, upon his retirement from the service Mr. Dunn made his home in Springville. He had worked as a barber, operated a lounge, proprietor of the Turf Club in Payson, Utah. He resided at 1287 South Main Springville. An ardent radio hobbyist, Mr. Dunn operated under the number K7SNZ. He was a member of the National Rifle Association for Warren G. Harding, AF&AM Lodge No. 260 of Poulsbo, Washington. Survivors include the parents of California; three sisters, Mrs. Edna McGuire of Downey California, Mrs. Faye Handwerk of Bellflower, California and Mrs. Nobie Goode of Live Oak, California and three brothers, Rufus Dunn of Salinas, California, Paul Dunn of San Jose, California and Udell Dunn of Hesperia California.
