S. J., postmaster, daughter of Ira and Mary A. McDonough, was born in Somerville, Miss., May 12, 1844. She resided in her native State throughout the War of the Rebellion, then removed to Louisiana in '66. Later she came to Utah and located at Beaver, where in '73 she was married to Austin Shipp. They lived in Beaver over twenty years, where he was a leading merchant and superintendent of the Co-op store. In '88 they came to Castle Dale and secured 160 acres of land. He died May 5, 1894, leaving her with four living children: James, Alice, Kent and Nettie, and Eddie, deceased.
