CEMETERY: Ferron City Cemetery (part 1 of 2); Ferron, Emery co., Utah Submitted for USGenWeb Archives by Mark Farr *********************************************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ut/utfiles.htm *********************************************************************** My name is Mark Farr and this was my Eagle Project. I had several boys and adults in my Troop help transcribe every headstone in the cemetery. We did this in June of 2003. You can get updates from Ferron City Hall. As my mom entered the information into the computer we realized that the city’s cemetery addressing system wasn’t accurate. It’s taken a long time to get things straightened out, and there’s still some problems. The city record sometimes lists two people in the same grave by the plot number. The city is in the process of fixing the 'addresses'. We have tried to be accurate in this project. Please understand that there is a human error factor! My project was based on transcribing the exact information from the headstone. I have added comments that are in parenthesis. Anyone (usually a spouse) that's still living will not be listed, even though their name is on the headstone. Here’s a little history of Ferron Cemetery. One of the first burials was in 1881. There was a typhoid and diphtheria epidemic in the fall of 1885. Many of the early graves had only small handmade markers. These are some of the graves that we couldn’t find a headstone for. There are several headstones that have “Faith In Every Footstep” markers. This means that the person in the grave was a handcart pioneer. You can get more information about that from the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Before grass was planted, the town would all mow their yards and bring the fresh cut grass clippings to the cemetery and spread it around the graves on Memorial Day. There are lots of very old pine trees in Ferron Cemetery. They line each section and make the cemetery very beautiful. The cemetery is at the end of 200 North, three blocks east Highway 10 in Ferron, Utah. There were 1578 graves in the cemetery as of summer 2003. For updated information people can contact Ferron City Hall at: PO Box 820, Ferron, Utah 84523 ferron @ etv.net 435-384-2350 more can be found about the Ferron Cemetery at www.history.utah.org Surname, Given & Middle, Birth Date, Death Date, Other Actual Inscriptions and Comments, City Record Notes, Block/Lot/Plot A.M.P., (This is a small stone with no writing on it), No record of this grave, 6/4/3a A.M.R., (There is no headstone with this footstone), No record of this grave, 3/1/1 Allen, David A.
