At Rockville, Kane County Dec. 18th, 1879. In childbirth, Maria De Grey, beloved wife of Bishop Chas. N. Smith. Aged 39 years. Deceased was a daughter of John and Maria De Grey, born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England, Nov. 21st1840, became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 12 years. Emigrated to Utah, through the exertions of a widowed mother, walking most of the distance, in 1857. Adopted with gladness the holy order of Celestial Marriage, and became the mothe of eleven children all now living to emulate the virtues, and cherish the sacred memory of a devoted Mother. Sister Maria was First Counselor in the Rockville Relief Society, and ever cultivated a profound regard for Zion and her institutions. And although she was snatched as it were in a moment from her family and friends in the prime of womanhood, and a life of usefulness so suddenly terminated, yet we will humbly submit to the decree of Him wo ordereth all things well.
