East Millard Pioneers, Death Notices, As Published in the Progress 1913-1937, p. 80: The Millard County Progress, Friday, 4 Oct 1929: IN MEMORIUM ANN ELIZABETH ASHMAN CARLING Born December 20, 1846, In London, England; died October 3, 1929 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hattie Critchley, Fillmore, Utah, age 83 years, 9 months and 13 days. Grandmother Carling, as this pioneer resident was affectionately called, came to Fillmore in 1862 at the age of 16 years and resided here continuously from that time. She was married in the same year to Abraham Carling who has preceded her in death. To this marriage was born fifteen children, 9 sons and six daughters, who are: John, Abraham, George, Joseph, Frank, Ernest, Elmer, Harriet, Isabella and Kathryn, surviving; the deceased children being: Sarah Ellen Brunson, Emiline Giles, Elizabeth Giles, Edward A. and Lehi Carling. One sister, Mrs. Isabella Peterson also survives her. Grandmother Carling was converted to the faith of the Latter-day Saints in England at the age of 15 years and upon coming almost immediately to Utah became active in Church and community affairs here, continuing so throughout her entire lifetime. She was a member of almost the first church congregation here, and was a member of the choir for over 40 years. She was also active in loyal Relief Society work during all these years, and the deeds of helpfulness and kindness which she was constantly doing during her active life will long be remembered. She was a true christian mother and firm in her religious convictions. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth. Her life was full of God-likeness. Let us, then, if possible, gather up the elements of this departed life and weave them a picture for the walls of memory. In addition to the sons and daughters named as surviving, are sixty-six grandchildren, 92 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Well may these children cherish her memory as a precious legacy and "rise up and call her blessed." Funeral services will be held Sunday at the Fillmore Second Ward Chapel at 2 P.M. Rogers, Sadie.
