GEORGE -- Walter Thornton Paxton, 93, died on November 16, 2003 at 12:30 a.m. in St. George, UT. He was born September 13, 1910 to Walter Isaac Paxton and Mary Topham Paxton in Kanosh, Millard County, UT. He was married to Doris Lillian Jorgensen of Salt Lake City, UT in San Francisco, CA on Feb. 20, 1937 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 25, 1937. Walter attended elementary and high schools in Fillmore and Kanosh, UT. He moved to San Francisco, CA in search of work in 1932, finding work in carpentry and construction, and helped build the Golden Gate and the Oakland Bay Bridges; in 1942, he moved to Santa Rosa, CA and worked as a carpenter and superintendent. He was affiliated with Carpenter's Union Local #751, serving as union president and as a teacher of apprentice carpenter classes. He is survived by three sons and two step daughters and their families; Thornton S. of Broomfield, CO (10 children and 25 grandchildren), Robert C. of St. George, UT (12 children and 30 grandchildren), Roger E. of Honolulu, HI, Charlotte M. Johnson of Loveland, CO (2 children) and Margaret Boyd of Sherman Oaks, CA (2 children and 2 grandchildren). Additionally he is survived by two sisters, Reva Post of Sunnyvale, CA, and Lora Austin of Santa Rosa, CA and one brother, Albert Paxton of Fillmore, UT. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Lillian Jorgensen Paxton in 1954 and in 1988 by his second wife, Katherine Elizabeth Hassett. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2003, 11 a.m., Morningside Stake Center, 881 S. River Rd. Visitation will be held Thursday, 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the Stake Center. Graveside services will be held in Santa Rosa, CA at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary, St. George, UT (435) 673-4221.
