He was born January 5, 1918 in Hinckley, Utah to Harriet Theobald and Norman Ingles Bliss, Jr. He had 12 brothers and one sister. He was educated in Hinckley, Utah and graduated from Hinckley High School where he was active in sports and served as student body president. He attended the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City, Utah, now known as Southern Utah University. During World War II he served in the Pacific Theater from 1941 to 1945 and was 1st Sgt. in Troop B. 112th Cavalry (Regimental Combat Team). He participated in the American Defense, Asiatic Pacific, and Occupation Forces in Japan. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He married Julia Finlinson on April 3, 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple and raised four children. During his life he was a devoted husband and father. He retired from Nebo School District. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served many years working with the youth, particularly in scouting. Among his many church callings, he served in the Stake Young Men's Presidency, as a Ward Clerk and as a Counselor in his Bishopric. He enjoyed farming and gardening. He is survived by his brother Leo Lee; his children: Julie Ann (Del Ray) Hammons of Cottonwood, Arizona; Kathryn (Barry) Holt of Las Vegas, Nevada; Paul Ferron (Stacy) Bliss of Salem, Utah; Ronald Finlinson (Trina) Bliss of Enterprise, Utah; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brothers: Clarence, Clark, Oren, Maitlan, Earl, Stanley, Howard, Theone (Bill), Max, George (Joe) Bliss, Otto Lee, and sister, Zelma Trauntvein. Graveside services will be on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery, 420 South 400 East, with Military Rites performed by the Spanish Fork American Legion. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork. Condolences may be sent to www.walkerfamilymortuaries.com.
