Curtis 1925~2003 Raymond Frederick Curtis, age 78, passed away November 19, 2003 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born July 12, 1925 to Lyman R. Curtis and Ines Western Curtis in Deseret, Utah. Married Jerene (Jan) Nelson on August 8, 1947. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 8, 1948. Ray was a salesman for the Kirby Company in Salt Lake City in his early years. He served in World War II in the Army Air Force in the Burma-China area, flying over the Himalayas as a communication specialist. In 1954, the family moved to Dillon, MT, and bought the Dilmart, a furniture store, with Dean and Joan Wright, and remained partners for 33 years. Ray served faithfully, holding many callings in the LDS Church: Bishop, Stake Council, High Priest, Scouting and Sunday School. He also served a Member Location Mission in St. George with his wife, Jan. His ancestors were instrumental in settling the Salt Lake Valley. His great grandfather was the ninth horseman with Brigham Young. Retired from their Furniture store business, Ray and Jan built a summer home in Star Valley Ranch, near Thayne, WY, where they enjoyed golfing and friends. Winters were spent in St. George, Utah, where golfing, friends and family were their joy. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; five children, Teresa (Ray) Webster, Dillon, MT, Fred (Margaret) Curtis, Dillon, MT, Sheila (Mark) Murphy, St. George, Paul (LaRue) Curtis, St. George, Aleisa (Doug) Hallberg, Peachtree City, GA; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Also survived by one brother, Glen (Lura) Curtis; two sisters, Barbara Winn and Ina Rae Roper; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death his parents; son, Robert Roland; daughter, Sherrie Rae; brother, Ralph Curtis and sisters, Mariam Curtis and Maxine Carey. Ray had a joke for every occasion. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father, and a wonderful friend. We will all miss him. Everybody loved Ray! Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, 2003, 4 p.m., at the Bloomington Hills 2nd Ward, 750 Ft. Pierce Road, St. George, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place Saturday, November 22nd, at the Salem City Cemetery, Salem, Utah.
