Sherwood "To Know Her Is To Love Her." A lovely lady, Wyla W. Sherwood, left us to join her Heavenly Family on Nov. 30, 2003. She was the innocent victim of Mesothelioma, a lung cancer caused by secondary exposure to Asbestos. Wyla was born on January 19, 1917 to wonderfully loving parents Clyde L. and Lillian P. Wood. She enjoyed a special childhood, sharing it with three beloved sisters and many relatives and friends. She married her sweetheart, Rulon T. Sherwood, on June 10, 1937 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. Together they shared 60 years of marriage, love, and trust. Wyla was funny, kind, generous, and always bestowed unconditional love upon her family and friends. She adored children and they, in turn, were drawn to her and returned her love. She was a great cook, (especially her pies.) She kept a beautiful home and garden. She loved her "roses." She excelled as a seamstress and taught sewing classes for many years. She enjoyed traveling, working in her garden, making handicrafts, cooking Sunday dinners for her family, attending DUP, and watching Jazz games. She had an unusually close bond with her grandson and great-grandchildren. She always said, "What would I ever do without you guys?" Now we say, "what will we ever do without you?" You are the glue that holds us all together. But, we promise to make you proud. Wyla was a devout member of the LDS Church. She had a strong testimony. She held many church positions during her lifetime. Wyla was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a baby brother, and many other relatives and friends. She is survived by a daughter, Merlee (Doug) Christiansen, beloved grandson, Garren T. Breach, and the sunshine of her life, her great-grandchildren, Brecca and Taylor Breach. She is also survived by sisters, LaVon Hunter, Beryl Hardy, and Eudene Thompson. Dear Mother, as I write this tribute to you, I realize how blessed we were to be able to spend so much time together. I'm happy we have always been able to express our love for each other. As you know, you are my best friend, my confidante, my support system, my cheerleader, and my shoulder to cry on. I will miss you so. Dear Grammy, You have been the sweetest person I have ever known. You're the most tender, giving, kind, and caring person in the entire world. My life has been richer, and brighter because you've been a part of it. I could never express to you the void I'll feel when you're gone. I keep thinking back to all the things we did when I was just a little kid. All the dresses and clothes you made me and the Halloween costumes we spent hours on together. I remember all the times I used to pretend I was sick so I could stay home from school at your house. You would make me soup, read me stories, and spoil me rotten. The thing I'll miss the most is being able to see you any time I want, or being able to pick up the phone and hear your voice on the other end when I miss you. Words cannot express how special you are to me, or how much I'm going to miss you. I love you with all my heart. Love always and forever, Brecca and Taylor. Special Thank you to Dr. Allison Schlissman and Dr. Graden Harker. Our love and thanks to Debbie, Tamber and Sandy at CNS Hospice. Funeral will be held at Canyon Rim Stake Center, 3051 South 2900 East Friday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. Friends may call Thursday at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Dr. 6-7:30 p.m. and Friday one hour prior at the Stake Center. Interment: Holden City Cemetery. Published in the Salt Lake Tribune on 12/3/2003.
