He was born May 10, 1938 to Reed Ashby and Virginia Grant Wood in Holden, Utah. He married Norma Stevens on June 8, 1963 in the Manti LDS temple. Grant served as a missionary in the Norway Mission from 1958 to 1960. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. degree in Accounting. He worked for Brush Wellman in Delta, Utah for 30 years as a Human Resource manager. He lived in Holden most of his life. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in numerous callings including Bishop, counselor in the Bishopric, financial clerk and teacher. He had a deep love for his Savior, Jesus Christ and a great knowledge of the gospel. He loved his wife and family and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Sheri Coats (Dean) of West Jordan; daughter, Jodi Jewell (Michael) of Fullerton, CA; son, Michael Wood (Steffeny) of Issaquah, WA; daughter, Wendy Reese (Shane) of Mapleton; daughter, Amy Davies (Ben) of Layton; sister, Helen Ashton (Bruce); sister-in-law, Cherryl Wood; 13 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and son Grant Lance. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Holden LDS chapel. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church in Holden and also 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral. Arrangements under the direction of Olpin Southern Utah Mortuary.
