He was born to William Francis and Ida Lorena Larsen Bartholomew on December 19, 1908 in Monroe, Utah. He married Eleanor Moore on June 12, 1940 in the Manti Utah temple. They have six children: Ann (Dale) Hull of Orem UT, Joyce (Don) Stovall of Fremont CA, Carol (Alen) Hunter of DeLand FL, Paul (Loanne) of Raleigh NC, Marcia (Tom) Gandolph of Raleigh NC, and John (Holly) of Orem UT. They have 38 grandchildren, and 45 great-grandchildren. Vic attended school in Monroe, Fayette, Provo, and Gunnison, graduating from Monroe HS in 1928. He graduated from BYU with a BS in chemistry and from Iowa State University with a Masters and a Ph.D. in Soil Microbiology. He served during World War II on the Emergency Rubber Project and with the Bureau of Plant Industry in Washington DC. He was a professor of agronomy at Iowa State University, North Carolina State University, and the University of Ibaden in Nigeria. He guided graduate students from all over the world, conducted research in nitrogen fixation, served in and led professional societies, and traveled the world representing Iowa State University, North Carolina State University and the United States government. He served as a consultant to commercial companies and government agencies, both domestic and foreign. He was known in professional circles as "Mr. Nitrogen". He authored or co-authored more than 70 scientific papers plus numerous articles for professional magazines. Victor loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life. He was a missionary in the Eastern States Mission, a district president during his mission and in the West Iowa District and the Raleigh, NC District. He was called as the first president of the Raleigh, NC Stake, serving for 11 years. He also served as a Patriarch in the Raleigh, NC and Salem, UT stakes, a temple worker in the Washington, DC and Provo Temples, and with his wife, Eleanor, as Church Special Representatives in the Nigeria Lagos Mission. He lived by and taught the principles of the Gospel, and his family and associates are grateful for his steadfast example. The family extends a special thanks to First Choice, Hearts for Hospice and Comfort Care Hospice for their faithful care. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Sunset Heights Stake Center, 1200 So. 400 West, Orem, Utah. Two viewings are scheduled. One will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 5th, at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 S. State Street, Orem, Utah. Beck, Clifford Calvert Clifford Calvert Beck 1920 ~ 2004 MAGNA - Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Clifford Calvert Beck was born March 26, 1920 in American Fork to Margaret Ann Bushman and Bryon Leonard Beck. He passed away peacefully on December 3, 2004 in Bountiful after fighting Alzheimer's. He married Ada May King on September 18, 1946. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps for four years. He worked 43 years for Kennecott Copper, and also served on the Magna Community Council. He was an active member of the LDS Church serving in various callings. Survived by his wife of 58 years, Ada May; sons, Stephen (Laura), Rigby, ID; Gary (Marsha), Manila, Philippines; Gordon (Michelle), Lake Point; David (Mary Ann), West Valley; Tom (Ruth), Vancouver, WA; and Kelly (Ilene), Murray; 32 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren. Christensen, Thurza Vance Thurza Vance Christensen 1921 ~ 2004 Our dear, sweet mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Thurza passed away at home on Dec. 1, 2004. She was born Dec. 7, 1921 to John Alma Vance and Gertrude Halliday in Gunnison, UT. She married Thomas Keith Christensen, May 14, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She served an LDS mission with her husband in Johannesburg, South Africa. She served as a temple worker, and in other church callings. She loved to garden, crochet, travel and read inspirational books. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. Margaret L. Fackler "Remembered WithLove And Laughter" Margaret Elizabeth LeCroy Fackler, age 84, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2004. Margaret was born November 27, 1920 in Walker County, Georgia to John and Hassie Mae LeCroy. She married Newman E. (N.E.) Fackler, Jr. on May 10, 1952. Moved to Salt Lake City in 1965. N.E. preceded her in death in May, 1998. Margaret was known for her great love for her family. Even while battling Alzheimer's, she would often remind her children, "Call me when you get home." Margaret had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Even in the most difficult times she could relieve the tension with her quick wit and a big smile. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She lived and taught the Golden Rule. Survivors include her daughter, Karen F. (Kent) Lange, son, John N. Frangos, William William Frangos1943 ~2004 William Frangos, Ph.D., 61, died early Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004 from complications related to colon cancer. Dr. Frangos, born April 2, 1943, in Kokomo, Indiana, son of Mona B. and the late Thomas F. Frangos received his B.S. degree in Earth Sciences from MIT in 1967 and M.S. in Geophysics from the U of U in 1992. During his years in Salt Lake City he conducted field research, taught at Salt Lake Community College and was a dedicated, much loved soccer coach. In 2002, he earned his Ph.D. in Applied Geophysics from the University of California at Berkeley. In 2000 he accepted a position as professor of Geology and Environmental Science at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. In his distinguished career as a geophysicist, he published widely and lectured around the world. Willy is survived by his wife of 25 years, Suzan Caylor Frangos; mother, Mona; sister, Marilyn Seastone; brother, Geoffrey Frangos and wife, Elise Walker; daughter, Dr. Jennifer Frangos; son, Colin Frangos and wife, Jane Fisher. She was born Nov 11, 1921 in Portland, Oregon to Grover August and Anne Kirstine Smoot Rebentisch. She married her sweetheart, Weldon James Gardner, May 2, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.Anne served in World War II in the US Navy WAVES. Anne attended BYU and has been active in the LDS Church all her life, holding many different callings. She was known for her compassionate service and her cooking, especially her bread making. She enjoyed sewing, handiwork and playing the harp. Gilson, Charlotte Charlotte Gilson 1943 ~2004 Charlotte "Char" Potter Garland Gilson passed away December 1, 2004, after a diligent fight with cancer, surrounded by her caring family. Char was a loving, caring, daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Char was born to Charles W. and Vera E. Bradshaw Potter June 7, 1943, Coalville, UT, the oldest of four children. Char married and divorced Paul Garland. This marriage produced two children. In 1978 Char met her lifetime companion and best friend, Ronald L. Gilson. They were married in Fullerton, NE, September 1, 1978. Char always said that these were the best and happiest years of her life. Char is survived by her loving husband Ron, children, Charles (Andria) Garland of Salt Lake City; and Jennett (Wes) Meyer of Lynden of WA; seven grandchildren, three step-children, Linda (Michael) Noble of Blythe, CA; Curt (Luz) Gilson and Greg (Janice) Gilson of West Valley City; and four step-grandchildren. Guymon, Bonita Holmes Bonita Holmes Guymon 1926 ~ 2004 Our dear sister passed away Nov. 29, 2004, Murray, Utah from stroke complications. Bonnie was born March 10, 1926, to John Wilford Holmes and Adelaide Mary Wood, the ninth child of a large family of 13. She graduated from South High School in 1944. She married LeRoy Ghumm, May 8, 1948 and was later divorced. She married Clell Arden Guymon, June 4, 1992, who is her eternal companion. Bonnie was a devoted mother to her handicapped daughter, Karen. She was an active member of the LDS Church and enjoyed doing Genealogy. She was an avid reader and faithfully wrote in her journal for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lee Ghumm, four sisters and one brother (Maxine Jensen, Betty Christensen, Colleen Simpson, Charlene Magness, Dale Holmes), a sister-in-law (Joan Holmes) and two brother-in-laws (Dan Jensen and Dick Magness), and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Clell and an infant daughter, Bonnie Lee Ghumm, parents, four brothers and three sisters. Hansen 1948 ~ 2004 Our beloved husband and father peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 2, 2004 with his wife at his side. As an answer to their prayers and his faith, Brent was blessed to remain with his family over a year beyond the expectation of doctors. He endured faithfully to the end of the 20 month battle with pancreatic cancer. A heart felt thanks is sent to the doctors and assistants who provided him loving care at Lakeview, U of U, Rochester MAYO Clinic, and St. Marks hospitals. He was born August 23, 1948 in Montpelier, Idaho, to goodly parents, Lena and Duane Hansen. He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1966, receiving an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. He married Lois Elaine Arrowsmith on August 30, 1968 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, though a drunk driver took Elaine's life a few months later on March 30, 1969. He served an LDS mission to Germany from 1969 to 1971, becoming an Assistant to the President. He married Beverly Schenk, daughter of Melna and Charles Schenk, or Roy, Utah, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Brent was an active and valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life. He loved the gospel with all of his heart and served in many callings, including the Stake High Council at age 32. Brent graduated with honors from Weber State in 1974 and then from Utah State in 1986. He served 33 distinguished years for the federal government, working at the Pentagon, Strategic Air Command, and other defense centers. At the time of his retirement, he received the prestigious Dept. of Interior meritorious Service Award. Brent profoundly loved his family, friends and country. His legacy is one of love and concern for all. He is survived by his wife Beverly, daughters Jennifer (Brian) Cieslewicz, and Jami Anderson (Matt); sons Shaun and Shane (Cindy Deakin); two grandchildren, Brinley and Gabriel; parents Lena and Duane Hansen; brothers; Clark and Dee J.; sisters Kim (Greg) Nichols and Joy (Jay) Nielson; and mother-in-law Melna Schenk. Hyder, Jean Jean Hyder 1917 ~ 2004 ROOSEVELT Jean Pinegar Hyder, 87, affectionately known as Grandma Jean died quietly at home December 1, 2004, of conditions relating to age. She was born July 26, 1917, in Price, to John F. and Grace Ellis Pinegar and graduated high school in Spanish Fork. While working in Salt Lake City, she met and married her husband Jesse E. Hyder in Spanish Fork in 1939. Their marriage was solemnized in the Atlanta Georgia Temple on October 10, 1968. He died in 1991. Shortly after marrying Jesse, they moved to Hendersonville, NC, where she lived and raised her family. She was active in the community, serving as PTA president of East Flat Rock Elementary, Flat Rock and East Henderson High Schools. She was long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as the local and district presidents. A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the only member of the Church when she arrived in Hendersonville, she was instrumental in building the Church in that area. She served in numerous callings including branch and district Relief Society presidents. After the death of her husband, she completed a mission to the Atlanta Temple 1992-1993. She then moved to St. George to live near her sister, Murl. Four years later she moved to Roosevelt, where she lived near her son, J. C. and his family. Survived by her children, Jere E. (Mary) of Hendersonville, NC; John C. JC (Jerilyn) of Roosevelt; JoAnne (Lanny)Roberts of Hendersonville, NC; Joyce (Gordon) Wight of Kaysville; three brothers, W. He was a tease, a hard worker and a strong man who had many life adventures including building his own home, gardening, owning and working a 300-acre farm, living in the Idaho forest, boating and fishing at the lake house and enjoying the humming birds at the cabin. He retired from Kennecott after 45 years. He had a great life. He loved his family and was always there for us. We love him and will miss him. She was one of four children, including Waneta, Carl and Max who all preceded her in death. Married Leon M. Moynier, Sr., October 25, 1941 in Ely, Nevada; he died April 13, 1971. Member of the LDS Church. Lifelong resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School. During her life she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Carbon County Nursing Home. She was an active member and held offices in the Price Ladies of Elks, Price Sorrocis, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Beta Sigma Phi. Jeanne was a loving mother, wife and she helped support her husband in the sheep ranching business. Schwemmer, Karl Karl Schwemmer 1928 ~ 2004 Karl Heinz Schwemmer, age 76 passed away peacefully on December 2, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Karl was born in Gruenholz, Germany on June 9, 1928, to his parents Heinrich and Albertine Wieczoreck Schwemmer. In 1957 he immigrated with his wife to America. Here he continued working as a painter. He developed a talent in painting pictures, which became his hobby. He was an active High Priest in his ward and was involved with the cub scouts. Karl was always quick with a joke and brought excitement into every party. Karl is survived by his wife Rosalinde; brothers, Walter (Silvia) and Fred (Brunhilde). Graveside services for Karl will be held on Monday December 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. View Memorial Estates Cemetery, 3107 East 7800 South. Friends may call Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com.
