Rigby, Helen Louise Bjerregaard Helen Louise Bjerregaard Rigby 1912 ~ 2004 Helen Louise Bjerregaard Rigby passed away December 2, 2004 at the age of 92. Born in Ephraim May 11, 1912 to Amelia Jensen and Christian Bjerre-gaard, Helen lived her entire life just blocks away from the house where she was born. Helen loved Ephraim and, with her husband Alvin, gave of herself for Ephraim and its citizens. Helen and Al formed the Ephraim Senior Citizens Program which they directed for over 10 years, and were instrumental in the building of Ephraim's Senior Center. Helen was recognized for her service to Ephraim by then Governor Matheson, but always took the most satisfaction from organizing meaningful programs for the seniors. Having lived through most of the 20th century, Helen rode the changing times with keen interest. She thrived on the daily news from around the world but was more interested in the goings on about Ephraim and Sanpete County. Helen raised her family in the wake of the great depression, cooking for the miners at Alvin's coal mine in Fairview Canyon while, at the same time, seeing that her children were educated and well trained in the piano and other musical instruments. During World War II, Helen worked at the parachute factory in Manti. As a girl she attended the school that eventually became Snow College, and briefly studied to become a nurse. Helen loved music, the theater and the arts. Her last job was as a docent at the Central Utah Arts Center in Ephraim where she worked even after turning 90. Helen saw a lot of the world, visiting around the country and to Panama while her son Nate was in the military. She was equally comfortable in a big city or in her cabin at the mine, but was always thankful to return home to Ephraim. Helen's greatest love was her family. Helen was married to Alvin L. Rigby. They raised a daughter, Dawn Rae; and a son, Nathan. Helen was the proud grandmother to five grand-children, and nine great-grandchil-dren. Alvin and Dawn Rae preceded Helen in death as did her brothers, Ray, Ralph and Harris; and her sister, Nellie. Helen is survived by her great-grandchildren; by her son, Nathan (Lynn) of Hinckley, CA; grandsons, Mitch, Seattle, WA, Mike (Shannon), Logan, UT, Matthew, Lake Park, FL, Scott Cheney (Mary), Centerville, UT; and by a granddaughter, Taya Johnson (Alan) of Portland OR. Helen had a talent for befriending people at times when they most needed a friend. She enjoyed the close association of many good and caring friends, and the bittersweet blessing of outliving most of them. She attributed her longevity to a diet rich in butter and a healthy sense of humor. Despite several bodily breakdowns in the last several years, Helen's mind remained keen and her sense of humor sharp. She was until the end an avid Utah Jazz fan and an outspoken promoter of Ephraim and all things Snow College. At the time of her death, Helen lived at the Inn at Barton Creek, Bountiful where she had several close friends and the kind help of a wonderful support staff. She was happy at Barton Creek. Her family is grateful for the friendship and care Helen received there. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday December 8, 2004 at the Ephraim Seventh Ward chapel.
