Arent, Lynn Lynn Arent "Lovely Lady" Lynn Arent, beloved by her family and her community, died on December 7, 2004. Lynn was born in Salt Lake City to Abe and Fanny Cohne. She graduated from East High School and the University of Southern California. At USC, she was Military Editor of The Daily Trojan and Editor-in-Chief of Wampus Magazine. She also co-founded the first college U.S.O. and one of the first college Red Cross chapters, produced and co-composed the first original USC musical production, and served as the civilian in charge of public relations for the campus naval unit. Following college, Lynn moved to the East Coast, where she was Junior Executive in the Democratic National Committee 1944 presidential campaign and then White House and Congressional Liaison for the Democratic National Committee. She knew Presidents Roosevelt and Truman and worked directly with President Truman. She also volunteered at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as an entertainer. Lynn always said that she married "the greatest human ever," Marvin Arent. They were married on March 26, 1950 and together they produced two fabulous daughters, Patrice Arent and Shereen Arent. Lynn was "super proud" of grandchildren Sarah Mulhern, Josh Lipman, Avi Wolfman-Arent, and Hannah Wolfman-Arent and of sons-in-law Brian Wolfman and Art Lipman. Lynn wrote, "I have been a blessed woman, loved by caring parents who taught me that I could accomplish any goal. I have been loved by my very best friend and companion, Marv, and blessed by caring and outstanding children and grandchildren who are committed to helping humanity." With partner Marv Arent, Lynn founded Arent's . . . doorway to fashion, a premier women's fashion store in Utah. Together Lynn and Marv pioneered television advertising. In 1987, Lynn was elected one of the first female Rotarians in the world. She was a member of Congregation Kol Ami and a founding member of Willow Creek Country Club. Lynn also served on many charitable boards and was particularly active in helping the University of Utah and Salt Lake Rotary. Lynn traveled extensively for business and after retirement. She told friends that she visited London countless times and never saw "The Mousetrap", visited Copenhagen and never went to Tivoli Gardens, visited Hong Kong and never bought anything, visited Orlando and never went to Disney World but totally enjoyed the natural and man-made wonders the world over. Lynn's wisdom, humor, and loving spirit guided all of those around her, and made all of those she loved and worked with much better people. In addition to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren, Lynn is survived by her brother Robert Cohne, brothers-in-law Dal Siegel and Albert Arent, and sisters-in-law Colleen Cohne and Sonia Cohne. She was preceded in death by her sister Cecelia Siegel, brother Ben Cohne, and sister-in-law Esther Arent. There will be no local public services. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery. Creer, James Read James Read Creer 1942 ~ 2004 James Read Creer, age 62, returned home to his Heavenly Father December 8, 2004 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born October 26, 1942, to Harold and Geraldine Jacob-son Creer in Ogden, UT. Upon graduating from Og-den High, Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He wanted a challenge, and the Marine Corps laid within him a great foundation of discipline. He went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science degree in accounting from the University of Utah. He then became a licensed CPA, and practiced many years before joining Johnstone Supply. His hard work and expertise earned him the respect and loyalty of many associates. Jim met the love of his life, Carolyn Rudd. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Jim was a longtime member of the South Salt Lake Rotary Club, serving as club president during 1988-89. He was an honorary Colonel for the South Salt Lake Police Department. His love of children and the desire to champion them led Jim to the Children's Justice Center where he served on the board for several years. As a professional, as well as in his personal life, Jim was a man of integrity. One could always count on his complete honesty in any given situation. He was always fair, ever wise. Jim loved adventure. He loved to travel and saw much of the world, always appreciating the people's cultures of each journey. He loved to hunt, fish, whether behind the cabin in the river, or from his boat on the lake. Jim was a voracious reader. He loved the arts and all fine things. He and Carolyn loved attending the symphony together, and Jim loved to have Carolyn sing and play the piano for him. Out of a desire to expose his children to culture, he began a tradition of taking all the girls in the family to the Nutcracker every December. His family was the most important thing in Jim's life. He sacrificed much for our benefit, always encouraged us to do our best. His relationship with each one of us was of great value to him, and he was continually improving and strengthening them. He had a very special relationship with his parents. Jim was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong and abiding testimony of the gospel, which was only strengthened during his last two and a half trying years. He was a member of the Sunday School presidency, gospel doctrine teacher, counselor in two bishoprics, stake auditor and an active, devoted home teacher. He served an inner-city mission with his wife Carolyn for 18 months during 1998-1999. He dearly loved the people he served. Jim is survived by his parents Harold and Geraldine Creer; sister Diane (Mike) Moyes; his loving wife, Carolyn; children, Wendy (Dan) Harman, Kellie (Kerry) Matticks, Mark (Julie) Creer, Jennifer (Brady) Eberhard, Angie (Tyson) Larsen, Chad (Ashley) Rogers, Douglas Rogers, Michael Rogers and Jason Rogers; 17 grandchildren who will forever miss their Grandpa; many nieces and nephews, and extended family. "Bud" Elwell "Buddy Boy" 4/25/12 ~ 12/8/04 Bud Elwell, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in Logan, Utah, on December 8, 2004. He was born April 25, 1912, in Preston, Idaho, to Isaac Elwell III and Francis Louisa Carter. He graduated from Preston High School and it was during this time that his love of retail was born. He began his career sweeping floors at the local store to help his family and went on to become the CEO of American Stores. Throughout his distinguished career he was the recipient of numerous business awards. In January of 1935, he married Venita Callan in Preston, Idaho. They built a wonderful life together and had one son, Stephen. They shared a love of travel and took many memorable trips with family and friends. Venita passed away on November 8, 1984, and on July 2, 1992, he married Mary Lin Neeley. Bud was a mentor to many throughout his life and gained the admiration and respect of all who knew him. He was a shining example that through hard work and determination, anything can be achieved. Countless numbers of people have benefited from the advice and words of wisdom that Bud has shared over the years. One of the greatest lessons we have learned from him is the importance of generosity. He was instrumental in providing a college education for numerous people, and sent many young men and women on LDS missions. And, of course, he was a constant source of support for Preston, his hometown that was so dear to him. We are so lucky to have the memories of time spent with Buddy Boy. A favorite pastime was summers at the cabin. Fishing, relaxing, and eating were always the events of the day- and with Bud in the kitchen no one left hungry. His greatest joy was spending time with his beloved Heidi and Jeff. He was more than just a grandfather to them, he was a constant beacon of light. He was so proud to watch them grow into such fine people. And in recent years, his great-grandchildren brought him a special kind of happiness. The greatest gift Bud received in the latter part of his life was certainly Mary Lin. She provided love, comfort, and care like no one else could. Her daughters, Kathy and Carol and their families, also brought a daily dose of love and happiness. We are forever grateful to them for their endless devotion. Buddy Boy was a pillar of strength to his family and we were blessed to have had him for 92 wonderful years, and wish so badly that he could have made it to his goal of 100. He died as he lived, with a quiet grace and dignity, and we are so proud of how hard he worked to try to stay a little longer. We take much comfort in knowing he is at peace. Although he is gone, we will never forget his love and devotion to us and we promise to keep his memory and example alive forever. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lin; step-daughters, Kathy (Bob) Allan, Carol (Todd) Crowl; a daughter-in-law, Shari Elwell Tavey; granddaughter, Heidi (Mike) Richmond; grandson, Jeff (Angela) Elwell; daughter-in-law, Jackie Elwell; granddaughter, Dena Elwell; a grandson, Daniel Elwell; a brother, Donald Elwell; sisters, Leora (Fred) Evans, Conna Dursteler, and Gwen Jordan; numerous nieces and nephews, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, by a step-brother, Jack Carter, a sister, Norma Elwell, and by his son, Stephen Elwell.
