Raised by Ernest and Olive Graham Bennion on the prairies of Southern Alberta he had a reputation for fast cars, practical jokes, and generosity of heart. He loved good food, good music, good literature and food straight from his garden. Served as a navigator in the Black Widow Night Fighter Squadron in the South Pacific during World War II. Served a mission in the Southern States. Met the love of his life, Robin Winnifred Gray at the University of Utah. Married June 26, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their lives were filled with adventures, including world travels and intellectual pursuits. He was an MBA, Master Gardner, and loved a good debate. Survived by his wife, Robin; children: Gray, Jane, Kari (Bill Snell), Rob, Brooke (Brett Jensen) Wood (Nevenka) Kapetan; grandchildren, Jacolby, Branwynne, Benn, Tad, Taylor, Scotty, Dino, Robert and Tatum; and those who loved him best: Knude and Shirley Swensen, Bob and Colleen Fink, Joan Olsen, Ted Hill and their families. The meetings of various clubs especially Great Books, will never be the same. A gathering of family and friends is planned for Wed, December 22 from 11:00-12:30 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, with a brief program at 12 noon. Carter, Glen Joseph Glen Joseph Carter 10/22/31 ~ 12/18/04 Glen Joseph Carter passed away December 18, 2004. He was born October 22, 1931 to Verenus Joseph Carter and Jessie Ellen Welsh. He married Emily "Tiny" Virginia Potter July 20, 1956. They had four children and were later divorced. Glen learned to fly at the family airport and carried his love of aviation into a long career as an Air Traffic Controller. Later, he worked for the Salt Lake City Police. Glen was a talented singer, guitarist, and banjo player. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, Jeff (Karen) Carter and children, Stephanie, Danielle, Christine, Benton, and Alyson; Tina (Bret) Houskeeper and children, Jai-me, and Nicole; Brad (Shauna) Carter and children, Jacob and Sydney; and Tanya (Monte) Lyon; sisters, Carol (Ronald) Harris, Ellen Jackson, Hazel Kremer, Jan (Gary) Lyman, Mary Van Wagoner, and Lorraine Robinson; brothers, Gary (Linda) Carter, Ray (Barbara) Carter; and many nieces, and nephews. Christensen, Amy Lue Thomas Amy Lue Thomas Christensen May 1931 ~ 2004 Our sweet and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend left our presence to be with our Heavenly Father and loved ones beyond the veil December 17, 2004. A beautiful baby girl, born to Emil Andrew Christensen and Lucille Thomas Christensen July 23, 1931. She married her eternal companion and sweetheart, Jerry Franklin May, May 31, 1952; and was sealed to him and her children (Christy, Jodi, and Jimmy) January 30, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple. She was blessed with the ability to write poetry, tell stories and she loved the arts. She faithfully kept a journal to enrich the lives of her posterity. She has an infectious sense of humor and was a joy to be around. She loved life and enjoyed traveling to many lands with her eternal companion and many dear friends. She graduated from South High School and attended LDS Business College where she excelled in shorthand, typing, and secretarial skills. She worked many years in the film industry, where her skills and personality were invaluable assets to her various employers. She loved serving in her many callings in the LDS Church, which included stake Primary president, Relief Society positions, visiting teacher, activities committee where she wrote and directed a stake play, and was dedicated in writing the Ward News Letter for many years. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, whom she loved with all her heart and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. She was always willing to share the joy her family brought her with anyone who would listen. She is survived by her husband of 53 years; and her three children, Christy Ann May (Jim) Ault, Jodi Lynne May (Scott) Maxfield, and Jimmy Franklin (Diana) May; as well as 10 grandchildren, Josh (Tammy), Andrew (Jennie), Aaron, Samatha (Samuel), McCall, Preston, Jesse, Dustin, Mor-gan, Paden; and great-grandson, Oliver; three sisters, Cleone (Milt) Smith, Sylvia (Ray) Otanez, Sandra Lamper; and one brother, Daniel E. He was born July 18, 1905 in Molen, Utah to Christian and Effie Leonora Hansen Christensen. He married the love of his life Velma Armanda Barney June 9, 1922 in Emery County, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple June 14, 1922. Willard loved the outdoors and enjoyed much time spent hunting, fishing, camping, and prospecting. He also had a passion for traveling. Willard will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He had a gentle strength that carried him and those closed to him through the hard times. He was always there for those in need, with encouragement and counsel. He is survived by three sons, Lyle, Gerry, Blain; and four daughters, Donna, Darlene, Uyvonne (Bonnie), and Adell; 43 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; 18 great great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Clegg, Howard James Howard James Clegg 1912 ~ 2004 Our beloved father and grandfather,Howard James Clegg , age 92, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2004, following a brief illness. He was born October 16, 1912, in Tooele, Utah to Peter McIntyre and Ida Mary Lane Clegg. On July 29, 1936 he married Zella Orme, whom he adored and revered; his partner, loving wife and dearest friend. They enjoyed 64 years together before her death, and he continued to instill in us the same values that they taught their children. He was a man of fidelity and integrity, with a remarkable work ethic. He loved ranching and continued to be involved in the day to day affairs of the 150-year-old family-owned business until his death. He leaves a legacy of faith and heritage as he exhibited great love for his ancestors, and taught us truths that he had gleaned from the generations before. Dad had a vibrant testimony of the Savior and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served as a home teacher, and in numerous other callings including Bishop of the Tooele First Ward and President of the Tooele Utah Stake. He was generous with his time in civic and professional affairs and served as President of the Settlement Canyon Irrigation Company, Grantsville Soil Conservation District, Grantsville Grazing Association, Tooele County and Utah State Cattlemen's Associations for many years. He was affiliated with The Sons of the Utah Pioneers and rendered service to various organizations and community causes. He was a graduate of Utah State Agricultural College (USU). His greatest love and most meaningful accomplishments were within his family, whom he taught by precept and example. We will miss his faithful devotion and tenderness. He is survived by his sons and daughters, Joy L. (Sam) Lowham, Marilyn (Glen H.) Lowry, Marjorie (Peter R.) Jeppson, Bruce (Janice) Clegg, Daniel O. (Laurie) Clegg, and Robert M. (Linda) Clegg; 33 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. His beloved wife, Zella, their infant daughter, and eldest son, H. James Clegg, preceded him in death. Filson, Mary Paez Mary Paez Filson Grace, Beauty and Elegance Peacefully and quietly returned to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family December 18, 2004. Mary was born in Salt Lake City March 15, 1935 to John and Enedina Paez. Mary is the eighth child in the family of 11. She attended local schools and pursued with passion her talents in the arts, and more especially in creative and modern dance. Her teachers and mentors included such prominent instructors as Juan Valenzuela, Barry Lynn and Virginia Tanner. Her dance experience created the opportunity to further her career in the health, beauty, and physical fitness profession. She managed La Spa a renowned facility in Pasadena, California. Upon seeing her home, a designer from Ethan Allen sought her as one of their own interior designers. Her home beautifully reflected her ability in decorating and design. She was extremely successful in this field, consistently listed among their top representatives. Mary had great appreciation for the fine arts, especially classical music. She purchased a baby grand piano and with ability and determination became an incredible pianist. She always carried herself with grace and dignity. She was simply a beautiful woman. She is the mother of Bradley Jeff McCleery and Rhonda McCleery Parry, they are her treasures. On February 16, 1978 Mary married the love of her life, her knight in shining armor, Robert Price Filson. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They resided in Pasadena, CA for 24 years until their recent return to Utah. Mary is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Brad; daughter, Rhonda; grandsons, Andrew Davitt, Jaime Cy Davitt, Tim and Mylo McCleery; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Simon and John Paez; sisters, Lillie Young, Jennie Smith, Angela Bowden, Alice Simpson, Anita Hoffman, Ruth Bowcut, Genevieve Nygren, and Nancy Blair. Ford, Heidi Hatch Heidi Hatch Ford 1956 ~ 2004 Heidi Hatch Ford, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend passed away Dec. 16, 2004, from the consequences of a circulatory failure suffered one year ago in New Zealand while she and her husband, Craig, were visiting her parents during their medical mission for the LDS church. Heidi was born April 14, 1956 to Dr. Joseph Lloyd Hatch and Annette Shurtleff Hatch. She was the beloved daughter who followed two brothers Floyd and Brad, later joined by sister Annette and younger brothers Tim and Paul. Heidi attended Dilworth Elementary, Clayton Jr. High and Highland High School graduating in 1974. Heidi attended the University of Utah where she affiliated with Delta Gamma. She served an LDS church mission to Guayaquil, Equador, where she developed a deep love for the people. She completed her studies at the U graduating in therapeutic recreation. Heidi married Doug Kofford in 1982 and three wonderful children were born to them, Kristina (20), James (18) and Jennie (14). They lived in Salt Lake, Los Angeles and Holladay. They later divorced. Craig and Heidi's friendship began in Jr. High School. They were later reacquainted and sealed in the temple for time and eternity on May 21, 1998. They enjoyed a wonderful life making their home in Centerville. Heidi added Craig's children, Holly, Ryan and Pat to their family. Heidi loved being part of the Ford family and was incredibly happy. For the last nine years Heidi was employed at the Salt Lake Veteran's Administration where she guided her beloved veterans through a variety of recreational, cultural and artistic endeavors. She took the veterans on many outings and involved them in activities they thoroughly enjoyed with Heidi's enthusiasm and sense of fun. In appreciation, these same Vets were often heard to say, "We love our Heidi." Previous to that, she worked with children at Shriner's and Primary Children's Medical Center. Heidi's courage in facing the challenge of her brain injury this past year has been inspirational. Her determination and zeal for life was never suppressed through the challenges her body presented. Many people have been influenced and touched by her great spirit and bright smile. Many faithful friends and family have lovingly attended to Heidi, for which we are most grateful. Special thanks to the myriad of people who unselfishly took their turn caring for her in a most considerate way. May you find great peace knowing you helped ease the load. The family would like to thank Craig for his tireless devotion to Heidi, who blessed her life with his compassionate and patient ways. Heidi was preceded in death by her beloved brother Paul and infant sister Carolyn Susan. Gatherum, William Robert William Robert Gatherum (Bob) 5/5/1926 ~ 12/17/2004 Bob passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, December 17, 2004. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 5, 1926 to William Reulon and Mildred Cook Gatherum. He married Carolyn Elvera Taylor on May 1, 1953. He served his country during World War II and wasstationed in Japan. He worked for American Oil for 35 years. He also enjoyed working for various sporting events at Derks Field, University of Utah, Salt Palace and for the past 10 years for the Utah Jazz at the Delta Center. He loved animals, especially his two pugs, Annie and Pepper. He enjoyed keeping his antique cars in perfect condition and displayed them in local car shows. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He and Carolyn spent many vacations in Las Vegas and Wendover, he always seemed to have such good luck. His expression of "Tap it light" as you were leaving after a visit, always left friends and family with a warm feeling of "Good-bye." He is survived by his wife Carolyn, three children William Robert Jr., Colleen Elaine Mullins (Ken), Gary Taylor Gatherum (Amy). Lauritzen 1918 ~2004 Orson William Lauritzen passed peacefully from this life, with family by his side, in his Mt. Pleasant home, Friday evening, December 17, 2004, at the age of 86.He was born September 30, 1918 in Preston, Nevada to Mary Loanna Terry and Peter Lauritzen. He graduated from Jordan High School and received his CPA certification from UCLA. As a young man, he served honorably in the Southern States Mission. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. He married Shirley Rhoades October 30, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They cherished each other for over 58 years of marriage. Together, they reared 11 children, all of whom he deeply loved. He and Shirley served an LDS mission in Los Angeles, CA. Orson had a remarkable memory. He would often quote poems and scriptures. One of his favorite past-times was scripture chasing with family and friends. Orson was an extremely hard worker and a successful businessman. He was instrumental in the preservation of the Ephraim Coop Building. Throughout his life, Orson was a true disciple of Christ and radiated his missionary spirit with zeal. He possessed a great love of God and testimony of the gospel. Orson was sensitive to the prompting of the spirit and never hesitated to serve his fellow man. He served faithfully in many capacities, including bishopric, high counsel, gospel doctrine teacher and seminary teacher. He received great joy from his service as a temple worker in the Manti Temple. His most treasured calling was as a stake patriarch. He was a patriarch more than 40 years and has given over 1,300 patriarchal blessings. He is survived by his sons, Stephen, David, Kerry, Christopher, Kelly; his daughters, Content, Joy, Charm, Harmony; their spouses; 38 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; son, Bill; and daughter, Gay Nickle. Services will be Wednesday, December 22, 2004, 12 noon Mt. Pleasant Utah LDS North Stake Center, 300 West 500 North. (Ted) Oborn "Papa" Husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend departed his earthly home on December 16, 2004 to dwell with his heavenly family. Ted was born to goodly parents William and Rhoda Bushman Oborn in Fort Union, Utah. He married Shirley Nelson in the Manti LDS Temple on August 16, 1950. He was educated at Jordan High School, Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah. Ted was employed at Amoco for over 30 years. Ted was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in various ward and stake positions. His favorite calling was as scoutmaster. He enjoyed working with the youth and served in different capacities in the Boy Scout organization for many years. Ted's community service consisted of working in Little League and Western Boys Baseball Organizations. He also served as a volunteer in the Salt Lake School District. He served his country honorably in the United States Special Forces. Ted had many interests and hobbies including fishing in Alaska and Mexico with his son-in-law. His passion was boating and fishing with his son and grandsons. Shopping with his daughter was high on his list of priorities also. He enjoyed entertaining relatives and friends at the family cabin in Timberlakes. Ted was an avid reader of Church and western United States history and liked traveling to historical monuments and museums. Most of all he loved his family and they loved and respected and admired him. The many family trips and cruises will leave us all with wonderful memories of our Papa. Ted is survived by his wife Shirley of Murray, Utah; daughter Staci Jo Sain (Mark) of Holladay, Utah; and son Sean Oborn of South Jordan, Utah. He is also survived by grandchildren; Jennifer, Jessica, Brittany, Michael, Aaron, Tyler, and Bronson. Other survivors include four great-grandsons: Ryan, Sabastian, Christian, and Colton. Also a foster sister Evonna Montalvo (Monty) of West Jordan, Utah; sister-in-law Joan Oborn, of Sacramento, California and three nephews also of California. He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Louis and two grandsons; Chance and Niocholaus. Ted loved and was loved, and no man can ask for more. Osguthorpe, Erwin Barr Erwin Barr Osguthorpe 1/7/29 ~ 12/18/04 Erwin Barr Osguthorpe , age 75 passed away December 18, 2004.He was born January 7, 1929 in East Millcreek to Edgar Osguthorpe and Ada Hazel Capson. He attended Granite High School and served in the United StatesNavy. On November 30, 1950 he married Darlene Higley in Salt Lake City and resided in Emigration Canyon more than 47 years. E.B.'s favorite pastimes were singing, horsebackriding , hunting, bowling, playing pool, mechanics, and ranching. There was nothing he couldn't fix. His imagination to invent practical items to make life easier was always an amazement. He was actively involved and loved his children, grandchildren, nieces, ne-phews, and family. He served as a Special County Sheriff for many years. During his 35 year career at the Dept. of Transportation he excelled in management and served on many panels and avalanche control. E.B. was always willing to help a stranded motorist. He is survived by his wife, Darlene J.; daughters, Christy Grundfossen (Dan), Gayelee DuFord; sons, Alan (Vicki), Rick (Meg); sisters, Bernice Sierkowsky, Renee Christensen (William); brother, John (Ruth) Osguthorpe; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Peay, Jerry Dean Jerry Dean Peay 1965 ~ 2004 Jerry Dean Peay , beloved father, son, and brother, passed away peacefully in his sleep of natural causes December 18, 2004 at the age of 39. He was born June 30, 1965 in San Diego, California to Robert Ellis and Janice Peters Peay. Jerry was raised in Provo, Utah and his childhood was filled with love, fun, work and horses. Jerry was a very hard worker, and was dedicated to all he did. At age 14, he received his Eagle, and at age 16, he won the National Champion Equitation Rider at the US Arabian Horse Nationals. Jerry loved his family and spent many years traveling with them showing Arabian Horses. Jerry graduated from Timpview High School in 1983. He faithfully served an LDS Mission in Melbourne Australia, where he was able to serve and work for the Australian people. He graduated from Dixie and Westminster Colleges with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Native American Studies. Jerry was looking forward to graduating from Real Estate school January 4th. Jerry worked for the family business for many years, and enjoyed the time spent working with his dad, brothers and good friend, Ted Mills. Jerry had two beautiful twin children, Dakota and McKenna, age 10, whom he loved and adored more than life. He was very proud of their many talents and accomplishments. He looked forward to the special times they shared together, taking trips, getting ice cream, and playing games together. He is survived by his mother, Janice Peay of Provo; his children, Dakota and McKenna Peay; his brothers, Craig (Andree) Peay, Mark (Lisa) Peay; and sister, Mindy (Josh) Arnold; Jerry was also surrounded in life, and leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Prows, Donna Nelson Donna N. Prows 1915 ~ 2004 SALINA, UT -Donna Nelson Prows passed away December 17, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Boise, Idaho. She was born March 21, 1915 a daughter of Franklin T. and Annetta Willardsen Nelson in Redmond, Utah where she lived throughout her formative years. She married the love of her life, Dail Arthur Prows, December 15, 1934 in Redmond, Utah. This marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple May 22, 1967. Donna served in several church callings and worked for many years at ZCMI. She had a love for music and played the piano by ear. She also loved the Utah Jazz. Her greatest interest in life was being a homemaker and a mother. Donna is survived by her daughter, Rae Lynn (Lee Ray) Rasmussen of Boise, Idaho; a son, Steven (Sherry) Prows of Bountiful, UT; a daughter-in-law, Carol Sue Prows of Murray; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchil-dren; three sisters, Vivian Jensen of Salt Lake City, Joy (LeGrande) Rolph, Shirly (LaMar) Brown all of Bountiful; sisters-in-law, Donna (Gene) Peterson of Salt Lake City, Mary Lou (Buddy) Bastian of Salina; numerous nieces and nephews. Smith, John Byron John Byron Smith By, We'll Miss You KAMAS -John Byron Smith was born in Huntsvile, Utah February 20, 1919 to Isaac E. and Mary Rollo Smith. He died at his home in Kamas December 19, 2004. Byron Spent his early years in Huntsville. He then moved with his family to Kamas in 1930 and lived the rest of his life there. He married his high school sweetheart, Winona Hortin October 5, 1940 in Oakley, Utah. Byron served his country in the U.S. Navy for two years in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war ended, he founded Smith Lumber Co. with his father. He managed this business until ill health forced him to retire. He was always known for his strong work ethic and could do any job in the business in spite of a crippled right arm and hand. He was injured at work when he was only 26 years old. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with many of the men who worked with him. By and Nona loved to travel, stay in their trailer in St. George and spend time together. He is survived by his loving wife, Winonoa, Kamas, Utah; daughter, Bonnie Kay (Mont) Angell; and son, Rodney J. (Connie) Smith both of Kamas; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren (one deceased) all of Kamas. A special thanks to his family who helped so much with his care and to his grandson, Devin Smith, who spent many, many hours staying with him. West, Donna Dickerson Barrus Caldwell Donna Dickerson Barrus Caldwell West 1921 ~ 2004 Our sweetest mother, grandmother, aunt, neighbor, and friend,Donna Dickerson Barrus Caldwell West passed away December 18, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She endured much yet was a compassionate, loving, caring person, a helping hand. We celebrate her life example to love and serve others. Part of her childhood was spent in Skull Valley, Utah. She attended school in Grantsville, Utah. She retired from Eimac-Division of Varian in Salt Lake City, having raised and provided for eight children. Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various positions in the Primary and Relief Society organizations. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in various groups. Former member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Re-life Board of the Jordan Valley Rehab Center. Born March 9, 1921 in Midvale, Utah to Ralph James and Alzina Knowlton Dickerson. Survived by her children, Janet (Parley) Williams, Diane Caldwell Short, Bradford (Marianne) Caldwell, Jay (Cynthia) Caldwell, Nancy (Dan) Stuart, Gayla (Michael) Dowdle, Gregory (Shawna) West; three stepchildren, L. Brent (Ilene) West, Louise (Stephen Tolton), and Brian West; her brother Donald (Veda) Dickerson, 30 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and counting. Preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph McClellen Barrus, later divorced, Philip Ralph Caldwell, deceased October 6, 1960, and Lawrence Berg West deceased November 22, 1995; her son, Philip Ralph Caldwell Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Dickerson Barrus, Grace Dickerson Wagstaff; and three brothers, Julian, George, and Edward (Ted) Dickerson. Wheeler, Fred Clyde Fred Clyde Wheeler 1909 ~ 2004 Fred Clyde Wheeler was reunited with his sweetheart, Geraldine Saturday, December 18, 2004. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend began his earthly journey June 21, 1909. Born to Dr. Milo Andrew Wheeler and Cordelia Etta Bright in Inkom, Idaho. Fred attended high school at the Onita Academy in Preston, Idaho and later Utah State University. Fred married Geraldine Sutton in 1933 and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1970. Preceded in death by two brothers, Preston and Jerry; and two sisters, Arta and Elsye. Fred served as a member of the LDS Church and dedicated much of his time serving as ward clerk, and home teaching in the Hawthorne Ward. Fred started working at a very young age in the grocery business. Many will remember him as "the meat cutter." He was an accomplished violinist and enjoyed playing for others with the "Hawaiian Entertainers!" He loved to fish with his dad and brothers in Red Point Canyon on the Bear River, and bicycling was a big part of his life from his courting days until just a few years ago. Fred is survived by three children, Carol (Carlie) Brumfield of Spanish Fork, Fred Wheeler of Salt Lake City, and Jim (Catherine) Wheeler of Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
