Her mother died when she was six, and she helped her father raise the younger children. After leaving the farm, she worked during the depression as a cook and housekeeper. Wherever she lived, she made it a home for her family, and kept in touch with all her relatives in Minnesota. She liked to cook, camp, travel, walk, garden, eat raspberries and was an avid reader of romance novels. In her final moments her greatest love was ice cream of any variety! Most of all though, Marie loved her family and was the glue that kept everyone connected.
