Born June 28, 1984 to Susan Lee Dolan and Peter L. Willardson, Ben graduated from Rowland Hall St. Marks High School in 2002, attended Whittier College in California and was currently attending the University of Utah. He was pursuing a career in lighting design following in his father's footsteps. Ben ran the lighting board, set the lights, worked as a carpenter, and did any other chore asked of him at Pioneer Memorial Theater. Ben was blessed with superb athleticism. He played high school baseball, basketball and golf. He was a member of the Whittier College golf team during the 2003-04 seasons. A creative soul, Ben loved to write. He was a writer and editor for the Whittier College newspaper. He had written a novel and was in the process of making revisions to it. Ben enjoyed being with friends, playing golf, writing and especially traveling with his family. The family trips to Yellowstone were the highlight of several summers. Ben is survived by his parents, brother David Dolan-Rabideau, grandparents Kathleen L. Willardson, Richard J. Willardson, Betty Dolan, Joseph A. Dolan and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Ben absolutely loved his family. We take solace from his great devotion to his family and the kindness he showed to everyone. In his short life, all who met Ben were touched by and drew strength from this incredible young man. Ben is "teeing it up" with Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Payne Stewart on the eternal golf course. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and remembered for his kind generous spirit. A service celebrating Ben's life will be held Monday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Unitarian Church on 569 S. 1300 East in Salt Lake City. There will be a gathering with friends and family at the church immediately following the service where lunch will be served. Albert F. Gavura "Gabby" Al "Gabby" Gavura passed away peacefully December 22, 2004 after complications from surgery. He was born on April 3, 1920 in Preshov, Czechoslovakia to Michael and Mary Gavura. Gabby moved to the US when he was five-years-old and settled with his family in Pennsylvania. Gabby was a decorated veteran of World War II, seeing combat in North Africa, serving as a tail gunner on B-17s. He received the Silver Star for gallantry in action. He met and married the love of his life, Merle Wilson, May 16, 1943, celebrating 61 years together this year. Gabby was an avid fisherman and master craftsman who loved to work with his hands. He also enjoyed meeting with his many friends at the Sunday Anderson Senior Center for pinochle and conversation. He is survived by his wife Merle; sons Michael (Tiare) and Patrick (Donna); brother, John D. (Millie) Gavura, grandchildren, Adam, Amy (David) McPhail, Amanda (Javier) Viana; and numerous great-grandchildren. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 450 E. 2100 S. Hiatt, Mary Petersen Mary Petersen Hiatt 1921 ~ 2004 Our dearly beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Mary Anderson, Petersen, Hiatt, 83, of Springville, passed away peacefully December 20, 2004 at her son's home in Orem. She was born in Glendale, Utah on January 31, 1921 to John Sven and Minda Lucinda Harris Anderson. She married Mart Joseph Petersen on May 28, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. Four children were born to this union of whom she dearly loved. She especially loved her precious grandchildren who came along in her latter years. Mary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout her life she received many callings in her church of which she gladly accepted, one of which was to serve a mission with her husband in the South Carolina Colombia mission. She was a member of The Daughter of the Utah Pioneers; she being a granddaughter of one of the early Mormon pioneers. She loved flowers, gardening, music and dancing. She spent many long hours in her beautiful flower gardens. Her and her husband enjoyed singing. Her husband Mart passed away in May of 1991. In April of 1994 she met and married Darold Vernon Hiatt. They had ten beautiful years together filled with joy and happiness. She is survived by her husband Darold, three sons and a daughter, Garry Elvin (Carol) Petersen of Provo; Paul Mart (Rosalind) Petersen of Orem; Nadine Brown of Bountiful; John Riley (Lenore) Petersen of Salem, 3 stepsons and a stepdaughter, Clay (Lynda) Hiatt of Sandy, Craig (Kathy) Hiatt of Payson, Edith (Mark) Wolf of Salt Lake City, Mason (Susan) Hiatt of Springville, 13 grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grand children. Her Mother, Father, two sisters, two brothers, first husband, a son-in-law; Ray Brown, a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death. Johnson 1938 ~ 2004 Dee Frank Johnson was born January 17, 1938 in Salt Lake City Utah, to Vaughn and Mary Johnson. After a long courageous battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on December 21, 2004. Dee was employed at Mountain States Supply from January 1957 to present. He enjoyed 46 years of employment beginning as a truck driver and progressing to stock holder/ manager. He enjoyed the friendships of fellow employees, friends and customers throughout the years. Dee had many hobbies related to the plumbing and heating industry such as building burners, moldings, castings, and machine work. He spent many hours getting the correct air flow through these burners in order to get proper melting of the metals. Dee also enjoyed building replacement parts and restoring his six International Farmall Super A tractors. Dee was happiest when surrounded by his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed polishing his vast collection of rocks on the polisher he built from scratch. Dee loved to build things and plan out the steps he would take to make them. Dee was never too busy to help people and was always thinking of others, even when his health was in decline. Dee is survived by his wife, Jacquella (Jackie) Aime Johnson; children, Paula (Rich) Pemberton, Pam (Garn) Jensen, Bryan (Sonja) Johnson, Brenda (Hud) Fullmer, Joanna (Troy) Sargent, Jeff Johnson; his 17 grandchildren, Jayson and Tauni Pemberton, Caci, Josh, Megan and Amanda Jensen, Alyssa, Nathan and Nicole Johnson, Skyler, Jessica, Samantha and Ali Fullmer, Gavin, Emeree, Treven and Livia Sargent; brother, Jerry (Cynthia) Johnson; sisters, Donna Price, Rhonda (Rex) Snyder; many nieces, nephews and cousins; aunts, Afton Huggard, Dorothy Huggard, Blanche Ovard, Rae Huggard; and uncle, Glen James (Norma Jean) Huggard. Leland Wakefield 1919 ~ 2004 Leland B. Wakefield, of Provo, Utah was born March 1, 1919 to Marion Elroy and Zella Ballard Wakefield in Butte, Montana. He returned to his Heavenly Father on December 20, 2004. Leland was a long-time owner-operator of Wakefield's, Inc. an independent piano, music, electronics, and appliance store, which he founded in 1947 and ran for 43 years. After retiring and closing the store, Leland was a small business development advisor for the US Small Business Administration. Leland also distinguished himself by serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II, stationed in Egypt and Italy. Leland was awarded the Bronze Star. Following the war, he attended BYU where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business. at BYU, Leland met and married a beautiful young secretary, Anna Stucki. Their marriage took place on June 21, 1946 in the LDS Idaho Falls Temple. Leland held a variety of positions in the LDS church. He was a long time executive secretary and ward clerk, in the Oak Hills 1st Ward. He also served as a High Councilor and as Bishop of the BYU 1st Ward for eight years. He also worked in the Provo LDS Temple. Leland was well known for his expertise at two hobbies he loved: gardening and carpentry. He grew champion roses, and was often sought out for gardening advice and plant rescue. He was an ingenious handyman who could fix anything. He loved to build furniture and make sure his yard was always blooming magnificently. Leland's family and friends will fondly remember his never ending supply of cute anecdotes and jokes, and his twinkly blue eyes. He is survived by his long-time sweetheart and wife, companion, helpmate and the love of his life, Anna, three children: daughters: Susan a marketing consultant and writer in Chicago, Ill; and her husband Rick, and children, Michael and Kellie; Annalee a music coach and choir director in Portland, Oregon, and her children, Daniel, Matthew, Jessica and Ryan; and son: Neil a business/marketing teacher at Orem High School, and wife Suzy and children, Kolby, Ashley (Nate), and Lauran. Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel, 1060 E. 2400 N., Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Weber 1941 ~2004 Georgia, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on December 21, 2004. She was born on February 13, 1941 to Norman and Eleanor Park Hatch. She married Jack C. Weber April 19, 1962 in Bountiful, Utah. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Everybody loved Georgia. Her favorite times were those spent with family, friends, grandchildren and her dogs. Many of those times were spent at the family cabin at Bear Lake and numerous trips. She is survived by her husband Jack C. Weber; her two daughters: Sue-Ellen Ploeger (Brian), Shari-Lyn Lawson (Troy); three brothers: Bob Hatch (Sharon), Ron Hatch (Sandra), Barry Hatch (Patty); three grandsons: Justin and Dalton Lawson and Matthew Ploeger. Preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jeffery and Matthew. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff at Mountain West Medical Center in Tooele and LDS Hospital who provided care for Georgia.
