He was born in Aleppo, Syria on January 25, 1945 to George Boulos and Mariana Awad Boulos. When just 22 he left his home to see the world, visiting Spain, France, Venezuela, Columbia and Brasil. In his life, he had seen the great pyramids of Egypt, the Roman aqueducts in Seville, the great Foz Do Iguacu of Brasil, and many more of the world's wonders. He was educated in Syria, graduating from the University of Aleppo as an engineer specializing in agronomy. He taught biology in high school and after the 1967 War emigrated to Caracas, Venezuela where he worked for the Ministry of Agriculture. With his five brothers, he owned a factory which manufactured and sold denim jeans. He was a political writer and activist writing for his own bilingual, Arabic/Spanish magazine. He spoke many languages, including Spanish, French, Arabic and Portuguese. His command of knowledge never failed him, and he passed this on to those he loved. His knowledge of the world was not limited to language: he was an excellent cook, and prepared excellent baklava and hummus for his friends and family. In New York City, he met and married his wife, Lynda Olson, daughter of Gilbert and Mary Olson, Scarsdale, New York. They went on a wonderful two year honeymoon to South America. They returned to the United States and settled in Salt Lake City where Edmond owned and operated, Dar Es Salaam, a middle eastern grocery store at 9th South and 10th East. He later worked as a realtor for Wardley, Better Homes and Gardens and for Abbot Critical Care where he was injured in an accident. Illness forced him to restrict his activities, but he always walked each day, greeting people and waving at his many friends as they drove by. He was the South Moor Sentinel, the man who waved with the white hair and beard. He is survived by his wife and children: Lynda, Solomon, George, Khalil, Maryana and Julia; by his brothers and sisters, Salim (Janette), Caracas, Venezuala; Michel (Vivian), Aleppo, Syria; Maleki, Aleppo, Syria; Abdullah (Hannan), Miami, Florida; John (Imelda), Staten Island, New York; Albert (Michelin), Aleppo, Syria; Margaret and Odette, Aleppo, Syria; and 21 nieces and nephews. Right now those of us that knew you best don't know how we'll cope without you. The shy smile, the love of water, of anything that sparkles. The heart of a small child trapped in a woman's body. We know part of the reason you are gone is your heart was broken when you lost both mom and dad this year. After all, you were the caretaker. No rest home for your mom! You took care of her every need. While you were in severe pain yourself, you did not complain but you spent years of your life comforting others. What would we have done without you? Our sweet Norma, what will we do now? Christmas was only a few days ago. Your favorite time of the year. It started out so sad, no mom or dad. Yet, at the end of the evening; we'd forged a new, stronger bond of love for family. You received your diamond outfit. Naturally, you tried it on at once and felt so beautiful; and beautiful you were, our sweet Norma. The love you had, and still have, for your one child, Noel, made us all better people. She turned 21 just a few days ago and on your limited income you still provided 21 gifts. She was your child, your best friend, your main reason for living. We promise we will all love her even more. Be there should she need us. We promise sweet Norma. Norma lost her sister Marion when Kiki had just turned 19. She lost her mother and father this very year. The only thing we tell ourselves for some degree of comfort is that they are all together again. Sweet Norma is survived by Noel, Rick, Norbert, Joanne, Ryan, Lindsay, Heather, Jake, Gary, Miah, Alexx, Jessica, Benny, AC, Andrea, Gerarda, and Robyn lost the best friend she'd ever had. For now our hearts are broken; when they mend, you will live in those hearts forever. You also loved dolphins and angels; they will forever remind us of you. May heaven be a combination of all you hold dear. To all who knew you, you are our Angel. Rest in Peace. Sweet Norma, We Love You. A celebration of Norma's life will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 S. Highland Drive on Friday, December 31 at 10:00 a.m. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Her loving gentleness and quick humor touched and enriched the lives of those who were privileged to be in her midst. Her great wisdom and zest for life energized us all, as did her genuineness and authenticity. She set a standard of excellence that will continually inspire and influence us for many years to come. She will be sorely missed! Blanche was born December 20, 1907 in Nephi, Utah, to Thomas Hyrum and May Pexton Burton. She attended the University of Utah and later the Utah Business School. Hesse on May 17, 1941 and they went into the restaurant business, opening cafes in Los Angeles, Pasadena, and La Jolla, California. They moved to Yuma, Arizona, where they continued this business as well as investing in a citrus grove. After her husband's death in 1978, Blanche moved to Salt Lake City, and lovingly cared for her mother who lived to the age of 101. She then availed herself of the opportunities of travel, which she dearly loved, and enjoyed many trips to Europe, the Mediterranean, the Holy Land, Egypt, the Greek Islands, Russia, Mainland China, and the Caribbean Islands. Blanche taught herself computer skills at the age of 87, and proceeded to do a great genealogical work for the Burton, Pexton, Hesse and Boucher families. She wrote erudite histories of her father, mother, grandfather, and loved to share her knowledge with others. Blanche was always learning through reading, classes, and other educational forums. She loved people and her home was always a gathering place for her many nieces, nephews, and their children. Lavin "Loving Papa" Our much loved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, December 27, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his family, after a life long struggle with poor health. He was born August 31, 1929 to Winnie Mary Olsen and Andrew George Lavin, in Salt Lake City, where he resided his entire life. Married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Haslam, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 27, 1949. They were happily married for 55 years, but he felt they had been in love even before this life began. He led his family with love and taught us by example the attributes of hard work, loyal companionship and endurance of trials without complaint. He taught the men in his family how to be true gentlemen by the way he treated his wife. He was a constant jokester, who never let an opportunity pass to brighten somebody's day with a good laugh. Ken's life was one that was marked by his service to others. He always put everyone else's needs before his own. His giving, unselfish nature endeared him to his family and friends. McKane, Brian Lee Brian Lee McKane 3/13/49 ~ 12/28/04 Our beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin, Brian Lee McKane Sr., received his 2nd mission call Tuesday evening, December 28, 2004. Brian was born on March 13, 1949 in Monterey Park, California to William George and Phyllis Frandsen McKane. He looked up to his big brothers, Michael (Janell) and Bill (Gwen) and adored his favorite sister, Kathy (Bruce) Mortensen. Brian graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School where he was on the football, baseball, and track teams. Later he attended the College of Southern Utah, where he learned to love golf. Brian married his high school sweetheart, Teri Ross, in July 1967. They are the proud parents of Susan Woodbury, Brian Jr., Andrew (Heather), Amy (Greg) McCloy, Mark (Jenny), Kristen Cayias, Joshua (Elisa), Luke (Katherine), and Holly (David) Ormond. Brian married Ruth Ann Whitney on May 9, 1992 for time and all eternity, and became the proud father to three additional children: Angela, Micah (CoriLyn), and David Gerritsen. The last 12 1/2 years have truly been a grand adventure for Brian and Ruth. Their greatest joy was time with family, especially their 23 grandchildren: Richard Woodbury; Jacob Lanier; Chase and Brian McKane III; Hannah, Caleb, Abigail McKane; Gabrielle Bran; Edward, Ryen, and Josie Gerritsen; Skyler, Dallas, and Darin McCoy; Danny and Darrell McKane; Justin Cayias; Tre, Jesse, and Madison Trujillo; Kaden and Camille McKane; and Tyson McKane. Brian and his eternal companion Ruth had recently returned from the Argentina, Buenos Aires Norte Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Previous to serving a mission, Brian was a Teamsters driver for 33 years, having worked for Delta and Consolidated Freightways, known as "Teenager" by his CB buddies. Brian absolutely loved life whether it was surfing, a fine round of golf, playing "catfish" at Lake Powell, pretending to hunt, or just hanging with the family. Brian's greatest legacy to all is his love of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the truthfulness of the restored gospel. He served in whatever capacity he was called upon with a smile on his face. One of his greatest joys was still being one of the last of the old time Seventies; he would hide out in Elders Quorum to avoid being ordained a High Priest. Brian is survived by his mother, wife Ruth, children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, (he never had "in-laws", just family) Teri Bartee, and many, many friends here and in Argentina. He is preceded in death by his father and a son, Dale Woodbury. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 31, 2004 at Jordan River Ridge Chapel (10200 South 1300 West). Friends and family may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary (6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan) and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please show one another a little more kindness, compassion, and patience. Y siempre haz lo justo!
