Bunn, Laurene Hayward Bourland Laurene Hayward Bourland Bunn 1919 ~ 2004 Laurene Hayward Bourland Bunn, 85, passed away at her home November 18, 2004 after a long illness. Laurene and her twin brother, Laurel, were born September 3, 1919 in Chester, Utah to Hugh Adelbert Hay-ward and Alta Justesen Hayward. She married Hughes Edward Bourland June 2, 1940 in Bountiful, Utah and they were the parents of one daughter and three sons. Hughes passed away August 31, 1967. She then married Richard L. She graduated from Davis High School in Kaysville and attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught in the Primary organization for many years. Laurene and Hughes lived in Bountiful where she stayed at home for several years raising their family. She began her working career by helping her dad, a butcher at Hayward's Market, each fall during deer season. She became a checker at Hayward's and later at Albertson's before moving to the Utah State Tax Commission where she worked until she and Richard moved to Houston, Texas. She worked for Texaco Houston Credit Union until her retirement at age 69 and they returned to Bountiful where she spent the remainder of her life. Laurene devoted her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. Even until her last days, her eyes would light up and her smile would beam whenever her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews entered the room. She was always a source of encouragement and positive direction to all. But the most special twinkle in her eye was for her husband, Richard. They were partners in all the ups and downs of life until about seven years ago when Laurene's health began to decline. Since then she has been the recipient of the most loving unselfish care possible from him. Whatever she wished for, from her favorite cake or pie to a new watch or a pair of shoes, "magically" appeared. Her children will be eternally grateful. Christensen, Una Elaine Una Elaine Christensen A Great Lady The Tapestry of My Life My life is but a weaving Between my Lord and me. I cannot choose the colors He works so steadily Oft times He weaves in sorrow And I, in foolish pride, Forget, He sees the upper And I, the underside. Not til the loom is silent And the shuttles cease to fly Will God unroll the tapestry, And explain the reason why. The dark threads are as needed In the Weaver's skillful hand, As the threads of gold and silver In the pattern He has planned. Our cherished angel, Una Elaine Christensen, finished weaving the tapestry of her life on November 17, 2004 and it is beautiful to all who shared in it's creation. Una was born on April 12, 1921 to Henry and Louise Mortensen Christensen, the second oldest of six children, in Richfield , Utah, where she spent the entirety of her young life. After moving to Salt Lake City as a young woman, she met, courted with, and married the love of her life, Clarence N. Christensen on April 16, 1960. After 44 loving years together, he preceded her in death by just over a week and a half. They had one daughter, Elaine Louise Christensen, born August 25, 1961, who they both loved dearly. The loss of her dear husband was too much for Una to bear and in the end she rapidly declined and slipped from this earthly body quietly and peacefully, after years of a valiant struggle with congestive heart failure. Una is survived by her daughter; brothers, Farrell Christensen, Fairbanks, Alaska; Don (Katherine) Christensen, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and many other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sweetheart; brothers, Clair and Dean Christensen and sister, Barbara Christensen Coffee. She was so loved by all who knew her and will be missed by so many. In accordance with mom's wishes, no "funeral" will be held. Instead, there will be a short graveside service, with a viewing one hour prior, followed by a luncheon "where no tears will be shed," only smiles and shared stories of a life well spent. The service will take place, Monday, Nov. 22, 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary /Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Rd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Published in the Deseret News on 11/21/2004. McLane, Lois Guinevere DeLaMare Lois Guinevere DeLaMare McLane (Gwen) Gwen McLane, our loving mother, grandmother, and dearest friend, died Wed., November 17, 2004. Her remarkable spirit and amazing strength endeared her to all who knew her. Gwen was born April 25, 1915, the oldest child of three born to Robert Guy and Rachel Wills DeLaMare. Her mother died three years later in the great influenza pandemic. Her father then married Rachel's sister Mary and their family grew to six children. She married Robert Emmett McLane on January 25, 1940 and they remained together until his death in May, 1990. Gwen was employed for many years as office manager for Drs. Tauffer, Winget, and Associates and later for the State of Utah, but she devoted her life to her husband and five children. She was animated and adventurous and willing to try most anything once, including skiing, traveling, dancing and camping well into her mid 80's. She could walk faster and further than most people half her age and used this strength to serve her family and friends. Her sweet nature forbid her from demeaning others, save the occasional Republican politician. Gwen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as an example of tolerance with good will toward all people of this earth. Gwen's youngest child Gary died in January, 2003. She missed him so very much. Her remaining children, Patrick, Park City; John (Dian), Salt Lake; Barbara, Salt Lake; and Susan (Hal) Smith, Homer, Alaska, are now missing her as are her 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Petersen 92 Years Young Dad, Earl Everett Petersen, has gone shopping with Mom, Mary Peffers Petersen (Oct 18, 1913~Dec 2, 1998). He left to meet her Friday, November 19, 2004. Dad had a 6 a.m. tee time and quietly slipped away so they'd have time to shop and go to lunch after. Soon they'll pack for a fishing trip and a cruise in the sun. Wherever they go now, it's together forever. Earl grew up in Brigham City and Bingham Canyon with his sister, Una; and his brothers, Burt, Norm, Le Grant, and Darrel. The men worked at Kennecott. Dad retired after 42 years as a shovel operator. During World War II he was a Seabee in Guam building breakwaters for the Pacific fleet. He was certainly proud of his time in the Navy and recited the Seabee motto frequently: "The difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a little longer." He loved travel, arguing politics, his church, sports, Ute football games, and the National Geographic. Dad and Mom were married for 61 years and along the way raised a scad of kids, MJ, Ann, Jeannie, Kris, Francie, and Jim Murray. As a team, mom and dad were special people to adopted kids, natural kids, nieces and nephews, and borrowed kids all over the neighborhood at 5th East and 27th. Dad and mom crewed for 10 years on endurance rides for Dean and MJ. Later, Dad raised bushels of tomatoes in Bluffdale. Ninety-two (June 11, 1912~Nov 19, 2004) seemed to be enough years for Dad. He leaves behind his kids and near kids, 17 grandkids, and 23 great-grandkids. Pretty good for a man who had no kids until he was 37. Per his wishes, graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 23. Visitation with family one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, plant a tree, take a neighbor to lunch, or donate to a charity of your choice. Dad, give mom and baby Jackson hugs and kisses from us. It's going to be a great family reunion.
