Athey, William Dean Dean Athey Together For Eternity William Dean Athey, age 89, died Nov. 25, 2004 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born August 31, 1915 in Midvale, Utah to William Lester and Florence Taylor Athey. Dean married Pearl Woodbury, June 26, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Pearl preceded Dean in death, June 2002. Member of the LDS Church where he served as ward clerk and a veil worker in the Jordan River Temple. Dean worked many odd jobs prior to entering the military. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. Upon returning home, he went to work for the Veterans Administration as a nurses aide, and retired as a gardener after 30 years of service. He loved to garden and carve and could often be found carving at his workbench. Survived by children, Bill Athey, Salt Lake; Bob Athey, Salt Lake; Sally (Leroy) Robbins Tracy, TN; and James (Shawna) Athey, West Valley City; three grandchildren, David McCoy, Matthew Athey and Heather Athey; sister, Stella Terrill, Salt Lake. She was the daughter of Thomas E Raddon and Bertha Raddon. She was born on December 13, 1926 in Murray, UT, and married Carlisle C. Bawden on September 3, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. She and her husband were avid bowlers for many years. She loved reading and doing puzzle books. Crocheting afghans for all her family, and then later for charities. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Stutsman, Carla Malcolm, Sheree Brannon, Karen Heinze, sons Bruce Bawden and Wayne Bawden. 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Carlisle Bawden. Both her parents, three brothers, one granddaughter and one son-in-law. Cuthbert 1959 ~ 2004 Steven Snow Cuthbert, age 45, died on November 20, 2004, in Salt Lake City, Utah, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Steve was born in Salt Lake City on September 16, 1959, the son of Thomas Crosbie and Joyce Snow Cuthbert. He graduated from East High School in 1978 and attended the University of Utah, where he was affiliated with Sigma Nu Fraternity and graduated cum laude with an economics degree in 1985. Steve married Georgia Avery on March 15, 1986, in Salt Lake City and they shared a home in Salt Lake City. Steve was a great lover of friends, family, art and nature. He enjoyed exploring the outdoors including deserts, mountains, beaches, and rivers. In recent years, he spent much time visiting the cabin he built in Fruitland, Utah, where he could be among his friends and nature. He leaves behind a lasting legacy as his craftsmanship can also be found in his home and the homes of many of his friends. In addition to his vision, creativity and talent as a builder, Steve was a skilled artisan and owner of Mystic Woods, where he created beautiful custom drums and didgeridoos for select customers. He was also an accomplished didgeridoo player. Steve enjoyed frequent social gatherings and adventures with his close circle of friends. His curious, friendly and inclusive nature put him at ease with anyone he encountered. Steve felt most at home when he was making a connection with others, whether close friends, casual acquaintances or complete strangers. His truly dedicated spirit allowed him to maintain a close long distance relationship with his five siblings. Eager and willing to give of his time whenever asked, Steve was exceedingly generous with his many talents. Whatever tasks and challenges Steve took on, he applied himself wholeheartedly and excelled at them. His energy and industriousness allowed him to accomplish amazing amounts of any kind of work. He loved to share his quirky thoughts about life and the value of a dollar to anyone who would listen. He and Georgia shared in many activities including a love of sports, gardening, travel, music, and walks with their dog Sierra. Steve had a particular affection for animals and nature. He taught us so much just by living in the moment. Steve is survived by his wife Georgia; by his five siblings -- Haven Thomas, Union City, CA; Richard W. Cuthbert, Seattle, WA; Sahana Barbara Wolvington, Santa Fe, NM; Julie Anne Ellis, Laguna Beach, CA; and David S. Cuthbert, Irvine, CA; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Fairbanks, Wilder Ned Wilder Ned Fairbanks 1925 ~ 2004 WILLARD - Wilder Ned Fairbanks, died peacefully at his home, November 22, 2004, surrounded by his wife and all five of his children. He was born November 9, 1925, a son of Wilder Fairbanks and Laura Mabel McKown Fairbanks. Ned was reared in the Duchesne area by kind and loving parents and had a happy young life. He enjoyed the mountains and streams, fishing and hunting and all the various sports that were available. He was educated in Duchesne schools and on June 30, 1943, married Althora Mayhew in Provo, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 20, 1944. Ned served in the Pacific during World War II with the 27th regiment of the 25th division. He returned to Duchesne after the war where he owned and operated a farm, worked in the Duchesne post office, and served in various church and civic assignments, including scoutmaster, Elders Quorum president and county chairman of the American Red Cross. In 1955, Ned transferred to the postal service in Ogden, Utah where he worked until retirement in 1980. He and Althora purchased a fruit farm in South Willard in 1961, where they built a home. His life was centered around his wife and family. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren dearly. He loved living in the country and working on his farm. Ned enjoyed the great outdoors and liked to travel. He loved God, his country and was always proud to be an American. He was a member of the Willard 3rd Ward where he served as a Sunday School president, councilor in the bishopric and several years in the High Priest Group leadership. He is survived by his loving wife, Althora, his sons, Michael Ned (Holly) Fairbanks, Mark Stephen (Darcy) Fairbanks, daughters, Suzanne Althora (Larry) Williamson, Sharla Rae (Doug) Lemon, and Sherri Lee (Gary) Swinden. He and Althora are proud grandparents to 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving a sister, Maxine Robinson. He is preceded in death by brother, Joseph (Little Joe) Fairbanks, sister, Arlene Smith. Henderson, Harry Harweeda Harry Harweeda Henderson 1929 ~ 2004 Harry Harweeda Henderson of Kearns, Utah passed away on November 24, 2004 at home. He was born on March 24, 1929 in Blackshear, Georgia the son of James Harry and Birdie Dixon Henderson. Harry served in the U.S. Navy and Air force from 1947 to 1968 and attained the rank of Technical Master Sergeant. He earned a Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. He then served as Lab Manager at Primary Children's Hospital from 1968 until 1990 when he retired. Harry served faithfully in the office of Bishop as well as numerous other callings in the LDS church. Survived by his wife, Karen of Kearns; sons, Keith (Callie), West Jordan; Kim David, Stow, Ohio; daughters; Sherri (Bill) Crowther of Cove, Oregon; Karen (Cordell) Jones of Stow, Ohio; Kathy (Scott) Prigmore, Rogers, MN; Jennifer of Provo, UT; brothers; Horace, Ranford, Eugene, and Ander all of GA; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was born May 19, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Gilbert and Florence Gregory Bradford. She married James Neil Jones March 3, 1979 in Magna, Utah; he passed away February 7, 2003. She loved gardening and spent many hours caring for her flowers. She enjoyed fishing with Neil and family, reading, playing "Uno", and Nintendo, and especially loved playing with her grandchildren. Survived by her step-daughters, Peggy (Ernest) Johansen, Jan Dea, and Dixie Allred; sisters, Kathleen Johanson and LaMoyne Beachler; brothers, William (Carol) Francis and Ray Francis; sisters-in-law, Audrey Jones and Renee (Byron) Gassman; brother-in-law, John (Karen) Jones; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grand-children. Jorgensen, Theodore Theodore Jorgensen "All is Well" Theodore was born April 20, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Danish immigrant parents, Theodore P. and Hedevig H. Jorgensen. He attended Garfield, Irving Jr. High, East High, Westminster College and the University of Utah.Ted married Arley Hudson, the catch of his life, on January 19, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1902nd Service Command Unit and was stationed in the European Theater and was in an artillery unit at the Battle of the Bulge. He was blessed with four children: Stephen (Cathy), Sharon (Steve), Daniel (Sue) and Suzanne. Ted worked in the floral business for many years, and after 20 years of service retired from Zion's Bank. He was a member of Sugar House Rotary, served in many church callings through his life, and enjoyed the outdoors; hiking, fishing, skiing, boating and camping. Ted was an accomplished musician and artist, enjoyed the family get togethers, his association with neighbors and their families, and happy memories of times spent together. Survived by wife, children, grandchildren, Christian, Hans, Jeremie, Jonathan, Erin, Andrew, Samuel and Jacob, also brother David (Janis), brothers-in-law Loren Hudson, (Evelyn, dec.), Alvin Mitchell (Alice, dec.), and many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Launer, Betty Ann Betty Ann Launer 1947 ~ 2004 On November 24, 2004, Betty Ann Launer, 57, was carried from the darkness of her cancer into the bright light and loving arms of Jesus. She is also celebrating her reunion with the love of her earthly life, Gary, sharing in the worship and praising of Jesus. Born January 7, 1947 in Salt Lake City, UT to Elmo and Lorene Mathews. She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Launer on February 17, 1965. Her happiness and joy was taking care of and being surrounded by her family. She had many friends throughout the years that meant a great deal to her. Betty attended Calvary Chapel of Salt Lake City where she grew strong in the Lord; her faith was as solid as her salvation. She worked for DOPL the last eight years where she enjoyed her job as well as her co-workers. Survived by daughters, Dana (Mark) Knold, Jennifer Launer, and Jill (Jeff) Howe; mother, Lorene Mathews; sisters, Carolyn Simonsen, Jeannie Schreck, and Sandy Petersen; brother, Ronald Mathews; grandchildren, Dustin (Jennifer) Turner, and Michael Turner; great granddaughter, June Turner; granddogs, Cody and Mille. Mangum, Ruth Afton Dahle Ruth Afton Dahle Mangum 7/23/1910~11/22/2004 Our loving matriarch, Ruth Afton Dahle Mangum, passed away at the age of 94 on Monday, November 22, 2004, in Logan, Utah. Ruth was born on July 23, 1910 in Clarkston, Utah to Joseph Norman Dahle and Rhoda Griffin Dahle. She was the oldest of seven children. She grew up in Clarkston and graduated from North Cache High School in 1929. She moved to Salt Lake City where she met and married Montell Eccles Mangum on June 2, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She began teaching in Sunday School at the age of 16 and continued to her 93rd year as the quilting specialist for the Relief Society in the Franklin Idaho 1st Ward. She served as Primary Chorister, Stake Beehive Leader, Special Interest Leader and Visiting Teacher. She served as a missionary in the Columbus Ohio Mission and on Temple Square in Salt Lake City. She worked at Utah Woolen Mills, Keith O'Brien Department Store, Hubbard Den Jewelers, the Hotel Utah, and then at the Utah State Road Commission for 16 years. She belonged to "The Rook Club" and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Ruth dearly loved her friends and associates. As her life came to its close, she wanted each and every friend to know how much she loved and appreciated them and their contributions to her full life. Ruth's hands were never idle. She made quilts for family and friends, crocheted Afghans for her children, baby shawls and lots and lots of slippers for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We have many memories of her creating sewing patterns out of paper and amazingly the final products were just right. She loved to have her family come for dinner which was always served beautifully on linen tablecloths and china dishes. Also, she often sent family members home with "care packages" of bottled fruit, jams, and jellies. She is survived by her daughters Sharon Bliss of Franklin, Idaho; Kaye (Lynn) Wallace serving in Mozambique as a missionary with her husband, and Linda (Winn) Egan of Pleasant Grove, Utah; 16 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She is also survived by three sisters, Martha Zink of Connell, Washington; Myrtle Lyon of Bountiful, Utah; and Margene Clark of Sacramento, California. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Douglas Lynn Bliss; granddaughter, Karri Lynn Bliss; great grandson, Chase Talmage Keller; her sister, Laura D. Moore, and brothers, Reed Dahle and Carl Dahle. McMillan, Alexander Alexander McMillan 1916 ~ 2004 Beloved father, grandfather and friend, Alex McMillan, peacefully passed away Thanksgiving evening, November 25, 2004. Alex was born to Peter McMillan and Margaret Ross in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on March 7, 1916. He married Mary Ellen Williams on June 1, 1942 with whom he spent 50 wonderful years until Mary's death in 1993. Their marriage was solemnized in the Jordan River Temple on June 1, 1984. She was his sunshine and he missed her through the years. We will always remember his devotion to her. They were great companions and we know they rejoice at being reunited. Alex is survived by his two daughters (Louise Robinson and Mary Kelly), son-in-law (Colin Kelly Sr.), seven grandchildren (Arba Robinson, Colin Kelly Jr., Paul Kelly, Ryan Kelly, Jennifer Kelly Fagergren, Steven Kelly and David Kelly) their wonderful spouses and nine great-grandchildren. His grandchildren adored him and all have been inspired by his great work ethic, his love for education and his belief in them. All of them supported and helped him during his illness. He was preceded in death by his sister and brothers, Elizabeth Creery, William Ross (Bob) McMillan, Peter McMillan, James McMillan, and John McMillan. Alex loved family most of all and always put his family as his greatest priority in life. He revered his parents and his Scottish heritage. He could rightly be described as being a grand example of a Patriarch and the very finest type of Scotland's manhood. Alex spent much of his life working with his father and brothers building and plastering buildings. Alex also worked many years at the University of Utah Medical Center. Alex will always be remembered for his profound wisdom and legendary kindness. He was a great friend and valued mentor to his children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly. He spent his life as a dedicated working ranch manager at Rancho Tularcitos in Carmel Valley, CA; the 71 Ranch in Elko County, NV; the Lazy Six Ranch in Ouray, CO; and the Palmer Ridge Ranch in Healdsburg, CA. Elvin is survived by his wife, Idona Maw Taylor; daughters, Kay Taylor and Susan Taylor Niepraschk; seven grandchildren and seven great-grand children; and his brother, Verl Taylor. Orval L. Wesley MSgt., USAF, Ret. Wesley, Orval., MSgt., USAF, Ret., 68, born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 22, 1936; a resident of Tucson, died November 26, 2004. Survived by his wife of 29 years, Fumiko Wesley; sister, Dorothy F. Wesley of Rising Sun, Indiana and two brothers, Robert D. Wesley of Tucson, Arizona and Richard D. Wesley of Cincinnati, Ohio. He also leaves a niece and three nephews. Wesley entered the military as an enlisted sailor, serving overseas in the Far East and in the Atlantic for nine years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving honorable in Korea, Vietnam, Okinawa and the United States for 15 years before his retirement at Hill Air Force Base, Utah in 1982.Services are to be determined.
